Tiki - Retirement announcement means G-men must start preparing for next year = more Jacobs to evaluate
There is no reason to prepare for next season when your team is still plenty alive this season.

This concept of the Giants phasing out Tiki because he's leaving next year is pretty ridiculous. Especially since they've seen plenty of Jacobs anyway, and are contending. This isn't the MLB.
2005 Giants RB touchesBarber had 83% of carries and 96% of the receptions
2006
Barber has 75% of carries and 81% of the receptions
His numbers have already dropped prior to his announcement. They will continue to fall as Jacobs must get more looks to see if he is the heir apparent.
That's nuts! If the Giants were in 2-8, maybe. BUT THEY ARE NOT GOING THROW THE SEASON to see if Jacobs can handle next year's duties.
Exactly that is true there is another thread about Tiki retiring what does that do for the rest of the season. The Giants are only going to lessen Tiki load if they are clearly out of the playoff picture. They don't have to evaluate Jacobs they know what they got in him by now and I think he is capable of producing if Tiki is gone.
Jacobs to be evaluated as potential Barber replacement; Workload to increaseJACOBS SHOULD CLIMB GIANTS' LADDER
There's a situation brewing with the Giants that could be very interesting in the second half of the season. With running back Tiki Barber announcing he's retiring after the season, you're going to see more of second-year back Brandon Jacobs. The Giants need to find out if Jacobs can be a feature back before they spend a fortune in free agency or on a first-round draft pick. There are indications Jacobs can be a workhorse, but with a style unlike Barber's.
At 6-foot-4 and 264 pounds, Jacobs is the size of some of the league's smaller defensive linemen. He's not going to run past a lot of people, but he's going to run over some.
Jacobs, who the Panthers looked at long and hard when he was coming out of college (gee, think he might have worked out better than Eric Shelton?), got a fair share of the work Sunday against Tampa Bay and gained 41 yards on seven carries. Barber still has plenty left. But, with the weather turning cold in the Meadowlands and the urgency to find his replacement, look for Jacobs to get more and more carries.
Once again, I was waaaaayyy ahead of the curve on this one. Some day, you guys will listen......
