I won't be a Wilson believer until I see him do it against a real defense while running an actual playbook.  Until then I'm sticking to my guns that he was a terrible pick and the worst of the first round qbs.  Get back to me after week three and if he's still impressing people then I'll apologize.

This year - Lawrence

Career - Lance, because I think sf is built better than all the non patriot teams and he's got the best chance of winning superbowls.  Lawrence and Fields should have entirely new coaching staffs within two years and even Jones will eventually watch BB ride off into retirement.

you specified real football:

Season: Fields, Lance, Lawrence, Jones, Wilson

Careers: Lawrence, Lance, Wilson, Fields, Jones

Lawrence is the most proven you guys not voting him must think supporting cast is the issue then?
I think he’ll have the best career. But I won’t bet on Meyer and the team isn’t good yet. I’d guess they’ll win 4-6 games.  Fields and Lance could / should be above .500 imo

Proven at what? The bullets haven't even started flying yet. All these QBs are at square one in a sea of football talent like they have never seen before.

Lawrence is on a crap team, has a greenhorn coaching staff, and is about to lose more games in Sep-Oct than he has collectively lost in the last 10 years. That's a lot to emerge from. I'm rooting for him, but fearful that he could be very close to the David Carr QB path.

I went Wilson for this year.  Looks good so far and will be starting from week 1.

Fields for his career, has the talent, intelligence, and seems to be a lot of buzz about his work ethic.  (FYI, also I am a bit of a Bears homer)

Proven in college, the guy is a winner. Ask any reasonable Alabama fan (there are a few of us) and we’ll tell you the guy is really damn good even against a great defense.

He didn’t totally carry Clemson against the elite competition but more so than any of these guys. I’m not counting Lance here due to competition.

Well said Oz.  If you can say ANY QB in recent memory was ready for the NFL, its this kid. He has been an impact starter from day one, and has played against the NFL farm team know as Alabama on the biggest stage and performed beautifully. I'm not a Clemson fan but I've got nothing but respect for what Trevor has done and how he carries himself.

Voted Lawrence for season. It seems like a race between him and Wilson since the other 3 are not expected to start week 1. Simply going with the clear consensus "generational talent" for this one.

Fields for career due to the constant press about his work ethic and the massive chip he must have on his shoulder after falling from the #2 QB spot in the pre-draft process.

No Kyle Trask option? ;)

I'll take Lawrence for both, seems like the safest gamble. Lance maybe highest upside.

Took Lance for the season because of his surrounding cast. I think the players around these QBs play a bigger factor than many are accounting for. I trust Shanahan more than I trust Jax and the NYJ for many reasons.

Long term, it was hard to pick against Jones (who I selected), but I could see Fields being the break away player there. He's got the good defense a QB needs and Chicago has to eventually get this right, right?

There’s Peyton, Luck, and Trevor. I’ve heard Elway was in that tier but I wasn’t following Football closely at that point.

i'm curious if the pole would have a big variance from current results if there was a caveat "if they were all starting week 1." took lawrence for this season for the same reason already stated, he is the starter on a young team that could have some unexpected talent crop up. took lance for the career. he seems to have the best intersection of talent, coaching staff, and supporting cast around him. i like the poise i saw in the preseason too.

I find it interesting that Zach Wilson has such a big lead in the 'this-season' poll when both he and Lawrence are in similar situations, IMO. Poor teams... New coaches... Decent division competition... Nothing special at skill positions...

On top of that Lawrence was praised as the most NFL ready QB since Luck, no?

So, with all that said, and Wilson leading the 'this-season' poll, why wouldn't he lead the career poll?

Lawrence has the most talent and has the highest career upside IMO but Wilson looks like the most NFL ready right now from what I've seen in preseason and heard from training camp reports.

If its wins you want, seems like Mac Jones could be your guy long term.
Belichick is 69 years old, how many seasons do you think he has left in him?  Without him do the Patriots have the same kind of yearly upside?

Went with Wilson for this year, though Fields was tempting. Wilson will start from day one though and Justin may not see the field until mid season.

Went with Lawrence for the career. Has the best tools. Not a strong contender for year one with a questionable coach and a weak team. Again considered Fields....kid is electric.

Of all of them, Fields seems to have the highest range of possible outcomes re. a career....neither All pro play nor colossal bust gone in 2 years would shock me. I'm not expecting huge things of Mac Jones, but I do think he has the tools to be an effective starter for a long time. Don't have a strong opinion on Lance in any direction, just haven't seen or read enough on him.

Went Fields this year. Think he’ll get in there sooner rather than later and have a very good rookie season and possibly career. Detroit is what they is. Minnesota are what they are. Who knows what Green Bay will look like after this year? Chicago could be in a good position to take over the NFC North. As long as they don’t screw it up. Which they could.

Went Lance long term. I believe that Jimmy will get most of the play this year and be good enough to win more games than he loses. If/when he gets hurt it will be the Trey show from then on out. Good line. Young and talented supporting cast. Gave up much to get him. It’s gotta work out or it’ll be a dreary future for my 49ers.

As for the others…

Lawrence is the real deal but I worry about the organization and I never believed Urban could succeed as an NFL head coach. How will a guy who never loses adapt to losing? I’m interested to find out.

With Wilson it comes down to mainly being an organizational thing as well for me. You know I love the head coach. Hopefully there’ll be some stability for a while. Gotta see it to believe it though. Wilson will be a mixture of big games and bad games early on. Will he have the supporting cast and coaching around him in order to achieve his full potential?

Cam is toast and will be out from under center within a few games (max) then McCorkle will take the reigns. I think he’ll have a pretty good season but Bill can’t coach forever… can he?

Real football is about wins.  Going with Fields this year.  Eventually Trevor wins out.

Very intelligent, savvy and thoughtful responses here.
