This thread has got me thinking, and maybe it should be its on thread entirely, what would my all-time NFL team look like? Well here goes:

Coach-Paul Brown

Offense:

QB-Peyton Manning          RB-Jim Brown         (slot)WR-Jerry Rice         WR-Don Hutson         WR-Lance Alworth          TE-Tony Gonzalez          OT-Anthony Munoz          OT-Ron Mix          OG-Jim Parker          OG-Bruce Matthews          C-Jim Otto

Defense:

ED-Reggie White          ED-Bruce Smith          IL-Bob Lilly          IL-Randy White          LB-Joe Schmidt          LB-Bill George          CB-Rod Woodson          CB-Deion Sanders          FS-Johnny Robinson          SS-Jack Christiansen          (Joker)Nickel-Ronnie Lott

Special Teams:

K-Morten Andersen         P-Shane Lechler
You might be thinking too much.

I'll think too little and just go off my eyes, players I've seen play and my first impulse.

QB- Tom Brady

RB- Barry Sanders

  (slot)WR-Jerry Rice

WR- Randy Moss

 WR-   Terrell Owens

TE- Tony Gonzalez

OT- Anthony Munoz

OT-  Jonathan Ogden

OG-  Will Shields

OG-Bruce Matthews

C- kinda drawing a blank here. Maybe Alex Mack? Maybe Bruce Matthews and put Randall McDaniel at guard

Defense:

DE-Reggie White

DE-   JJ Watt

DT - Warren Sapp

  IL- Ray Lewis

IL-  Brian urlacher

OLB- LT

 O LB- Derrick Thomas

CB-Rod Woodson  (kept your choice here but maybe champ, maybe revis)

CB-Deion Sanders

  FS- Ed Reed

SS- Ronnie Lott

Special Teams:

K-Morten Andersen

 P-Shane Lechler

I have no idea what you are trying to argue here.
Is this confusing?  ?

You made the argument that the DBs would prefer to face Rice to Moss or Calvin.... but you cannot give me a single DB quote that backs your claim.

You made the claim.  You prove it.
I have had a boring layover, but even that has limits.  I’m out.

I appreciate the repeated, serious, earnest effort here - but alas...

It really wasn't one you could win.

Moss's best yardage season was 1632 and his best TD season was 23.

Rice's best yardage season was 1848 and his best TD season was 22 (in 12 games!)

Even if you look at just single season stuff, Rice was better than Moss.  And of course Rice's entire body of work blows Moss's out of the water.

I get we are caught up in nostalgia, and his stats are undeniable.  He is the greatest WR ever.  But no, an NFL team is not drafting Jerry Rice if Calvin and Moss are there today.  Maybe add the likes of Julio.

Based on ability, or picking the "best" player/athlete.  Obviously Moss had other questions that made him drop, but I'm talking about the player.
Right, because those teams would be the Browns and the Jets. Then they would watch whoever drafted 3rd go win some Super Bowls.

**** Butkus over both George and Schmidt.  Where is LT?  He is the best LB of all-time.  Also, Jerry Kramer should be in there, probably over Mix.
Butkus was a great player, no doubt, but he was still a ways off for me, Ray Lewis and Mike Singletary were probably the next LB's up. Butkus sort of has a similar problem to his former teammate Gale Sayers, in the lack of longevity.

LT was the toughest omission,  but I felt he was an edge defender, and not an off ball LB, and I liked White and Smith (slightly)more.

I like Kramer and I'm glad he's finally in the HOF, but he never even crossed my mind. I thought he was the 3rd best O-lineman on his own team(albeit a team with 3 HOF o-lineman) behind Forrest Gregg and Jim Ringo.

Based on accomplishments....  Rice.   Not close.

Calvin, Julio, Moss?  All physical freaks and extremely talented.  But they never accomplished (or will) the things that Rice did...
