White's weight a concern (1 Viewer)

Uh oh...

WHITE IDLE: Speaking of Southern Cal players, LenDale White did not work Wednesday and won’t go today because of his sore hamstring.

“He’s doing fine, but we’ve just decided to hold him out this week,” Fisher said.
from www.nashvillecitypaper.com
White actually hurt it on the first day of OTAs (last Thursday) and hasn't practice since.
LenDale White, who hurt his hamstring at the Titans' first OTA practice last week, has also been sitting out this week's work.

Lendale = FB
Fat *******? "You keep your football, I'll take your baby."Maybe he figures things out and maybe he doesn't, but it certainly looks bad when, for the second consecutive off-season, he doesn't demonstrate the discipline to get into shape when the starting job is virtually up for grabs and waiting to be seized by someone. When comparing the negativity that surrounded LJ to the negativity that surrounds White, one difference is LJ was entrenched behind Priest Holmes who was setting records and putting up amazing numbers while White was probably viewed as a potential starter after he was drafted but couldn't be responsible enough to get in shape to play.

White down to 245
He's been 245 since April 21st.
White says he is mentally and physically prepared to be the Titans' starting tailback. White didn't wait to be asked about his weight in a brief interview. He brought up an Internet report last month that said he came to the conditioning program weighing 260 pounds. He said he reported at 250, and now weighs 245.

Boxers have, for years, put on tremendous amounts of weight between fights and then lost as much for their match. A 160 # fighter can weigh 190 or more between fights. Its not that big of a deal. If he gets back into shape, what does it matter. If anything, it should make his core and legs stronger just from carrying around an extra 20 pounds on a daily basis. Hell, I routinely lose and gain 10 pounds every couple weeks.

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_5719665?source=rss
I found this comment interesting: "I've got 'til August". Lendale just doesn't get it. Top players realize that they need to stay in shape all year, and show up to training camp in prime condition. Lendale is clearly not thinking about it this way - he just assumes he needs to show up by week 1, ready to play ball. If he doesn't "get it" soon, he'll watch a less talented Chris Henry get the starting job.

I'm throwing in the towel on him. LenDale's second chance after last season's sub-optimal performance was staying in shape this offseason. That didn't happen. I'm trading him now while he's got some value as the perceived starter of the Titans.
Don't throw in the towel.I'm choosing to believe Lendale (who is very confident) and the tag Jerome Bettis Jr.Drinking the koolaid...

I don't like seeing that he let himself pack on a bit too much weight in the offseason, but I'm not overly worried about it. He does have time to slim down a bit. Plus, I think we all really need to see him get some serious PT at the pro level. He isn't a burner and isn't an outright power runner, but seems to have good vision and feet. I still like his odds of being a decent NFL RB.

I am sure Henry will get a crack as well, but just because he is faster and in better shape does not mean that he is the superior football player. He very well may be, but I haven't seen or read enough to lead me to that conclusion just yet.

Haha, he looks like the guy from Scrubs.

Fisher commented specifically on Brown and Henry after Tuesdays workout. HE said Brown was in shape and knew what was going to happen when he came to terms. He said Lendale had been working out the last two weeks to get ready and looked good. Vince also left practice early with a "mild calf" (LOL, the abbreviations are silly) but it isn't a big deal.

What did he say about Henry?

One more from ProFootballTalkhttp://www.profootballtalk.com/LenWhaleTraining.jpg

He weighed 250 pounds during the Rose Bowl, when he impressed just about everyone. He's never going to be cut like Adrian Peterson. He's naturally hefty ala Bettis.

1. Is that same weight he had at USC pro-day when he impressed no one?2. On Sundays he will be lining up against Jackonsville, not The University of Texas

3. Please don't compare LenDale to Bettis. Bettis is a Hall of Famer.

Maybe this has been posted already, I've been following LenDale's situation less and less lately until he proves something.

"You know you've got to learn from this experience and hopefully next year, things will be way different," White said.

If White had learned that lesson while still in college, questions about his weight gain and hamstring injury might not have dropped him to the 45th pick overall in 2006 after being projected as a potential top 15 selection.

And if White had learned that last season while watching Travis Henry run for 1,211 yards, he might not have ballooned up to 260 pounds before the offseason program started in March.

Also, the Titans might not have needed to draft ex-Arizona Wildcat Chris Henry or bring back Brown, the four-year veteran who went from starter to playing in only five games in 2006.

1. He didn't work out at his pro day.2. Yea, I'm aware of that. But he still produced on the biggest stage possible. That doesn't guarantee success, but it's the most you could have asked for. 3. They're similar physically. That doesn't mean they're the same player, but they definitely have a similar body type.
