Who Are The 'Steals' At WR 12th Round & Beyond ? (1 Viewer)

RalphMouth

Footballguy
12 team re-draft league- no PPR

I've noticed both Drew Bennett & Ron Curry available late. Aren't they both their team's respective #2 WR's ??

Who else could be real 'steals' ??

I just did a 12 team mock and grabbed Reggie Brown in Round 15, Ernest Wilford in Round 16 and Mush Muhammad in Round 18. All three are most likely WR1 or 2s for their teams when the season opens.

Brown slipped or you had bad drafters. He doesn't fall that far in solid drafts.

It kind of caught me off guard too. I also think the way the draft went contributed to it. I got left in the cold in the PPR draft with Housh, Holmes and Curtis as my Top 3 (don't really like that combo) and I walked away with very good RBs (Gore MJD and McFadden as my Top 3), so without a ton of analysis, I am thinking people loaded up on "top" WRs then took it easy on them while scrambling to fill other positions...or it could have been they weren't paying attention. In a 12 teamer, would Brown typically last until Round 12?

Gaffney (NE) - I think he either holds on to the #2 role for the pats, or worst case gets the larger part of splitting time w/ Chad Jackson

Battle (SF) - not sure about the qb / production, but he should out perform his ADP even w/ Bruce and BJ there now.

Roydell Williams - dinged now, but looked good at the end of last year (PPR value over TD leagues though)

Obomanu (SEA) - Branch will likely start the season on the PUP, so there's Burleson, Engram, and ????

L. Robinson (ATL) - not sure about Ryan if he's the opening day starter, but LR might put up decent #s.

Longer shots:

Jacoby Jones/Kevin Walter (HOU) / Ike Hilliard (TB - PPR) / Craig Davis (SD w/ Parker gone) / D. Bennett (STL)

Steve Smith, NYG - an ADP of 17th round at the moment, he should rise with the loss of Shockey; likely to be there in the 12thPatrick Crayton, Dallas (maybe) - has an ADP of mid-9th round; slim chance he is there in the 12thTed Ginn, Miami - has a 12th round ADP; a 50/50 shot at himAnthony Gonzalez, Indy - has an ADP of around 7th or 8th round; will never make it to 12 in any league

Using the FBG consensus chart, here is my top choice for WR's with an ADP of 133 (12.1) or lower:

144 - Mark Clayton - He was a 1st round draft pick 3 years ago. IMO the main reason he is available in the 12th round is because he didn't get into the end zone last year (kinda like how Witten was undervalued at the start of 2007). He has averaged 53 catches for 647 yards in his 3 years, but only has 7 TD's to date. With Mason (he's 34, so he ain't done yet) and Heap getting the bulk of the coverage, and a strong running game, Clayton has a shot at producing some nice numbers. My projection would be around 65 catches for 900 yards and 6 TD's. I know those aren't huge numbers, but they would be worthy of a spot starter or weak WR3. FWIW, Calvin Johnson was WR36 in my league last year, and he had 48/756/4, to go along with 4 rushes for 52 yards and 1 TD.

By definition 12 teams, 12 rounds = 144 picks . . . so guys going 145 or later:

162 Darrell Jackson DEN

Recovering from a turf toe injury and takes over for Walker. Walker, recovering from another knee surgery with what may be a degenerative condition, has an ADP of 87. IIRC, D-Jax has a higher career fanatsy ppg average. Go figure.

170 Kevin Walter HOU

Walker ranked 36th last year (aided by Johnson being out much of the season). But once he became a regular starter, in 4 games with Johnson he average 7 receptions, 100 yards, and 0.25 TD.

193 Ernest Wilford MIA

He'll be a regular starter for the first time (the verdict is still out if he'll be MIA's WR1 or WR2) on a team that will be behind almost every game.

207 Marty Booker CHI

He won't set the world on fire, but someone has to catch the ball in CHI and he's the only one with any experience.

222 Arnaz Battle SF

Martz' 3rd receivers are often very productive.

233 David Patten NO

He ranked 42nd last year in pretty much 12 games as a starter. He's still the clear #2 in NO, a team that passes all day long.

247 Chad Jackson NE

He's going to end up the Pats #2 (Welker is a #3/slot receiver) playing pretty much every down opposite Randy Moss. Gaffney is not an every down receiver and is best served as a 4th WR in multi receiver sets.

Not Top 250 Earl Bennett CHI

There are not many receiving options in CHI . . .

Carter, Drew
I like Johnie Lee Higgins better.
Big points for special teams tackles in your league?
 I wish I shared his enthusiasm.I really liked Higgins' game coming out of college, or what I had heard of it anyway (didn't catch many UTEP games--that is to say, None). Fast, worked the middle, electric returner. But he showed nothing as a rook, and lost PT to Tim Dwight down the stretch. I am really hoping he can help this team, but there is zero reason to think so right now.

GRRRRRR!Yuds just released 80% of my deep sleepers at WR.

This is a great list :goodposting: I especially like D. Jackson, will be targeting him in all drafts this year. His situation reminds me of Galloway in 2005 when he was picked this low and Clayton was a 4th rounder. I really like Patten & C. Jackson too, nothing but upside from where they are being drafted. Ridiculous.

Are Ginn and Gonzo really there in the 12th?I might take a chance on Earl Bennett, Laurent Robinson, Arnaz Battle, Justin Gage, one of the Redskin rookies Kelly/Thomas, Keary Colbert (currently ahead of Jackson on depth chart and Shanny likens him to Rod Smith).

is this for '07?

I'd take a shot at Demitrius Williams. Balt is *supposedly* going to be using 3 WR sets a lot this season, and Mason and Clayton are both possession reciever types. Williams is the deep threat and could end up starting. Whoever is throwing the ball will have a lot to do with how valuable he and the other Balt recievers are.

In every mock I've done, Justin Gage is falling to the 11-13th rounds. He is the WR1 for the Titans, right?

Shaun McDonald is also available really late, despite solid numbers last season (79/943/6). He's the #3 WR in Detroit, and the departure of Martz and improvement of Calvin Johnson will be factors, but those numbers warrant a look late.

I especially like D. Jackson, will be targeting him in all drafts this year.
 I disagree with the Galloway analogy, but I have been running contrary to the rest of the staff on DJax (and contrary to Cecil, who is really anexpert on all things Broncos). Cecil is convinced the guy to watch out for in Denver is Keary Colbert.

GD it stop revealing my deep sleepers! My contribution is going to be a synopsis of this thread. I LOVE Williams, but not if they continue to use him in the slot. He really does best when he can fight for balls using his athleticism. They really should move Mason inside in three-wide sets and let their athletes with speed go downfield. I genuinely believe that Williams could steal Clayton's starting job this year.

As a Denver fan, I can tell you I think Cecil is on the right track here. The coaching staff really seems to like Colbert.

I heard it all from him already - Rod Smith Jr. yadda yadda. When the pads go on, Colbert is not as good a player as DJax (IMO). I liked Colbert in Carolina, and I have heard the reports as well. We will really have to see how this shakes out - looking good in OTA and mini-camps is not the same as looking good in TC and preseason games.Everyone's a darling in May.

Exactly. Colbert couldn't hold Jackson's jock strap (when healthy!). Give me the talented vet who has proven himself over the guy that teases year after year every time.

Keep an eye on the Bears camp- I think Brandon Lloyd will actually end up being the most productive in that bunch. Hester is holding out and anybody who actually believes he's gonna walk in and be a legit #1 WR is fooling themselves.

Granted- even the #1 WR on the Bears is a bi-week fill in at best.

 why not add something of value to the thread vs. the attempted humor :excited: Or, for debate's sake, tell me/us why I'm wrong.

I got Vincent Jackson in the 11th round and I thought that was a major steal. But most of my league thought I had reached so maybe its possible he goes in round 12 or later. If he does, he's the best answer I can give.

No, liking him at all. I have hope for Higgins, but they are without anything to back them up--since he's been drafted anyway. I think he's still an unknown quantity, but even as recently as the minicamps, he would follow a nice catch with a bad drop; meanwhile, Carter and Russell are supposedly thick as thieves.

Without looking at ADP's...

Robert Meachem - I'm probably going to end up with him on every one of my rosters by the end of August

Laurent Robinson

Demetrius Williams

Arnaz Battle

Antonio Bryant

...in that order. I don't bother speculating on rookies until deeper into camp for redraft purposes, so the Earl Bennett's and Will Franklin's aren't on my radar yet but they could be soon. There are also several camp battles I'll be watching to see if a deeper option definitively emerges (i.e. Seattle, Cleveland, Tennessee, among others).

That's practice. He did well there in Carolina too.

Well, great. This isn't some elaborate defense of Drew Carter, but he HAS contributed on the field, and has been noted to have chemistry with Russell already. That's two things Higgins doesn't have. That's all I'm saying. I hope you're right.

Can you all expand on this a bit?IMO, between Colston, Shockey and Bush, the Saints' WR2/3 is not as valuable as folks expect. That said, I expect Meachum to be a much better value pick than Patten - I am not a believer in Patten, but I am a believer in Meachum. And if Colston gets injured, he could be a huge addition

Yes he could hold on to it. Now, DJax has been known to have the butterfingers...so, chances are DJax could catch or hold onto Colbert jock strap or anything else thrown his way.

You mean Keary Colbert and his 48% reception rate versus Darrel Jackson's 55% reception rate? ;)

He won't be valuable if he's the #3 but if he wins the #2 role out of camp he could be a great WR3. You can write Brees down for 4000-4500 yds - who knows with the Shockey addition it could be even more, there will be plenty of yards to go around to keep the above three happy and Meachem fantasy relevant - just need to monitor camp reports and see if he maintains his OTA and practice performances from last season. If he does he should win the #2 job.
