Who do you hate more the 08 Patriots or the 72 Dolphins? (1 Viewer)

The 08 Patriots are an amazingly arrogant team. And hopefully all this talk about being the greatest team in history can go away. They should have lost their last two games, both against very mediocre teams. The officiating last night was so incompetent it was laughable. But I have really come to despise the 72 Dolphin players and their celebrations every time someone loses the chance to break their record. Wouldn't it be fitting if the Patriots do go 16-0 this season, while the Dolphins go 0-16? But it is hard to determine who is more irritating, the Patriots and their arrogance, or the Dolphin players and their glee at these other teams losing.

The Dolphins for sure.
2007 New England PatriotsTom Brady is a whiner. He gets hit or sacked and he cries. His way of whining is yelling at a referee about a pass int that didn't happen. I see him yell at these ref's all the time like a baby and he should be getting a penatly for this. I think Brady is a spoiled brat and while I never hope injury on anyone I would like to see someone give him a nice shot. Have him get up with maybe a bloody nose, some dirt all wedge up in his helmet and make him realize he's just a player just like the rest.I have never wanted a team to lose more then I do right now. I hate the Patriots and Brady the most I've ever hated any team ever.

The 72 Dolphins players are just enjoying their status, and by enjoying it they will make it that much more interesting and glorious when some team finally does break they record. They are doing nothing wrong and nothing to despise. The 07 Patriots, on the other hand, have no redeaming qualities. They cheat. They run up the score. They rationalize their running up the score as if we are too stupid to understand what they are doing. They may win all their games, but I have never seen a team with less class than the Patriots, and in my mind that is what they will be remembered for.

Speak of the devil... On ESPN's First Take just now, Morris was asked who wins between the '07 Pats and the '72 Fins.

"We would win, 23-10 because our defense would shut them down. All they can do is pass."

Shocker.

The cheating Pats of 2007 are much worse than the Dolphins. The Dolphins played no playoff teams but they didn't make up the schedule.

The Pats have and continue to cheat - no contest.

I cannot wait for the 72 Fins to not be able to boast and drink their champagne anymore. I hate the Pats, but I want them to go undefeated just to shut up Morris, Shula, et al

Pats - no contest. And I grew up in 70s as a Bills & Raiders fan so there was alot of Dolphin hatred. Sure Mercury Morris is annoying, but no more so than Buddy Garritty on Friday Night Lights living in the past.

I always respected Shula. Belichick's act is real old. And after watching Rodney Harrison get in Billick's face and listening to an arrogant Brady in the interview, there's no team I dislike more.

 The Patriots are the only team in the NFL that complains to the refs. Really they are. Really.

I enjoyed listening to Shula far more than any other booth guest MNF has had. At least he knows WTF he is talking about.

As for the vote, those old Dolphins are steps away from the grave. We would have to listen to the Pats for decades.

 Patriots have several classless players on their team. Belichick is also contemptible, both professionally and personally.

I had this exact conversation with a friend this morning, after he commented on how much he hates the Patriots this year.

I also hate the Patriots, for all the reasons listed above, and earlier in the season I would have been glad if they had lost.

HOWEVER, ...

Now that they are this close, I really want them to go ahead and finish the undefeated season for only one reason, that being to shut up those arrogant old fossils on the '72 Dolphins. I hated them when they were doing it, and that hatred has grown each and every time I see them popping their champagne and scoffing at being asked too early about subsequent undefeated teams (don't call them when they're in my town, call me when they're on my block).

Last night on ESPN Mercury Morris was already saying if the Patriots do it, they can be equals, when in fact it'll be a far greater accomplishment in todays game. I say relegate them to the dust bin of history.

I hate the Pats, but if their winning means no more interviews of the '72 Dolphins, GO PATS.

I was always rooting for Indy to to go undefeated when they had the shot because every sound bite or newsclip I hear from that '72 Dolphins team makes them sound like a bunch of punks, BUT this Patriots team is about as classless as they come and their fans aren't far behind.

I watched part of the game last night in a bar with mostly 49ers and Raiders fans and there were collective cheers for the Ravens, a team that is not exactly popular outside of Baltimore. Pretty amazing. I don't think I have ever seen that save the Yankees and they have so many fans at least half the room is usually wearing Yankee regalia anyway.

:goodposting: As a Bills fan I've always "hated" both franchises, but I find less redeemable or likable people associated with this year's Pats than with those old Dolphins. There's just no one on that team to like and admire except for possibly Welker.

Please expand on this.
The '72 Dolphin schedule was no piece of cake. They opened the season at KC, which was the first game in the then new Arrowhead Stadium, and a replay of the Xmas overtime affair from the prior season, and 3 weeks later played at Minnesota. Those 2 teams had been super bowl opponents just 2 seasons before, and because there was no free agency, etc then, those teams remained fairly intact. I really dont recall whether Minn actually made the playoffs that year, but also remember there were only 4 teams in each conference that made the playoffs. They also had to go on the road for the AFC champioship game under the rules existing at the time, and we now know that the Steeler dynasty started shortly thereafter. Couple that with the fact that they lost their starting QB(Griese) in the 5th game of the season, and he didnt return until the 2d half of the AFC title game. Nobody really hated the Dolphins at the time because they were fun to root for: an expansion team only 7 years old, no prima donna jerks to speak of, and a couple very lovable guys like Garo, Csonka,Kiick...free spirits without arrogance. That being said, if the Pats pull it off this year it will be an amazing feat, with the extra games, much more public scrutiny, free agency, parity and the like. I definitely think it is far harder to do it today than in 72. I honestly dont believe those 72 dolphins would have anything but admiration and awe for the Pats, as they know better than anyone how hard that was to do.

We all like rooting against Goliath, and but for the fact that i needed Brady's last TD to make my playoffs, i would have been rooting for the Ravens, too. But you cant diminish the accomplishment, regardless of the personalities.

I've been in Miami for 50 years, and used to pay my $1 to get into Dolphin games in the late 60's. You wont find a more devoted fan of Dolphin history than I. But to disrcedit the Pats accomplishment because you dont like them is silly.
