Who is on the Island in week 13? Welker? Branch? Tate? Woodhead? I am guessing Welker but wouldnt rule out Branch.
Yes. Branch.Has Revis even been any good this year?
Woodhead? Are u kidding me?Revis said that he would probably be on Deion Branch or Welker.bushisdaman said:Who is on the Island in week 13? Welker? Branch? Tate? Woodhead? I am guessing Welker but wouldnt rule out Branch.
Don't bench your studs, UNLESS you want to winThere is no Revis Island. To me, its the system. The Jets have great corners in Revis AND Cromartie. They have good pass rushers, decent linebackers, and love to blitz. Sometimes this works some times it doesn't. Some times you get shut outs. But this is definitely not a one man show.
Will it work against Brady? In NE is a tough place to play late in the year. I think this matchup is a toss up. But don't bench your studs!
Have you watched the Jets this season? Their pass rushers are not good at all. In fact, that's the major flaw with this team. And if Revis following Jennings for a half, then Calvin and Andre Johnson and TO and shutting them all down doesn't qualify as Revis Island, what does? There is no Revis Island. To me, its the system. Yes I have, I have 3 Jets on one fantasy team (starters) in fact. I dont have the defense but I know enough that they have a pretty stout group. Revis, Cromartie are obvious, both good. Jason Taylor, Bart Scott, Calvin Pace excellent LBs. Ellis and Goulston are good upfront, and I am sure there is someone else Im missing. Add to that the mind set of Rex Ryan which is "get pressure on the QB". They don't get a ton of sacks but they always want to pressure the QB. That is Jets football the way I have seen themHave you watched the Jets this season? Their pass rushers are not good at all. In fact, that's the major flaw with this team. Is Branch considered a stud now? I'm really asking. Might not be so crazy to play someone like a Hartline who's hit double digits in 8 out of 11 weeks so far over Branch. You couldn't trust Branch at all over the last 5 years....now he poses a real tough question this week. Welker sure- don't bench him, but Branch makes you stop and think a little. Our ends are not that good against the pass. We need an Abraham back, or someone of that ilk. I saw first hand what a Mario Williams-type player can do without too much support, and it would be scary to add a piece like that into this system.
It's not JUSt the system, but the system helps a ton. In this case, it's tough for him to totally affect the outcome as the Pats lack that one big threat he's designed to kill off. FWIW, he didnt have Cro last year - the other corners were not good - and he still shut most of the league down most of the time. He's far better than average but also far from perfect. The scheme makes ahuge difference for him as well and enchances his skills. Now, Welker is always interesting against the Jets because he plays across the middle so well and since the Jets blitz their LBs lots, there is usually a gap. A SS like Leonhard will cover but the Jets Safeties aren't great.Usually that's how the Jets get beat by NE - Brady just kills them short and across the middle, where they are weak. Last time out Welker wasn't a factor and Revis was hurt, so Moss was free. No Moss this time, no real vertical threat, so I';m curious to see how the Pats approach the offense. They are running a lot more and Hernandez and Gronk are two more guys who can work the field short. It's going to be an interesting battle - but like has already been said, I'm not sure how much Revis will affect this outcome, even if he's on Welker. The Pats don't depend much on just one guy. That's a strength of theirs and they are very godo with it.There is no Revis Island. To me, its the system. This is what I like to call "the revis weakness" , and one of the reasons the dolphins played well against them last year. When a team has no "definite" #1 WR, it dilutes revis' ability to affect the game. He is a shutdown corner playing a man, not playing the QB. I would say he covers branch, bc welker in the slot is a waste to cover with a guy like revis. Who knows.
Jenkins does not rush the passer, he clogs the middle. Pouha and DeVito are more than capable of filling in. In fact, they are probably as good together as Jenkins. We need a pass rusher that can play the run, not a run stuffer who can sometimes get to the QB. I'm fully aware that Mario Williams doesnt come around often, so the FO needs to get creative.Or JenkinsHave you watched the Jets this season? Their pass rushers are not good at all. Actually Jenkins was able to put a lot of pressure on QBs by penetrating up the middle. As good as Pouha and DeVito fill in (and at this stage play the run almost as well as Jenkins) - they are not the force that Jenkins is up the middle.Jenkins does not rush the passer, he clogs the middle. He did collapse the pocket, but I will respectfully disagree and say that Pouha and DeVito are on that level. Rex loves the guy, and Pouha was ranked as the best run stuffer in football by Profootballfocus.com. Though they might not have the same name recognition (and maybe not quite as strong in the Pass game), they are probably as good overall.Actually Jenkins was able to put a lot of pressure on QBs by penetrating up the middle. Agreed. Most 3-4 defenses have a very good pass rusher (Ware, Wake, Hali, Harrison, Matthews, Dumervil etc) and that's something the Jets need. I think a pass rusher and an upgrade at safety are the 2 biggest needs for the Jets this off-season.Jenkins does not rush the passer, he clogs the middle. He'll probably be on Branch and do a good job on him on the outside. If he goes and covers Welker in the slot, that will be a very tough matchup for him as Welker will run him to death. Revis is awesome against big tall athletic receivers who get large amount of yards on long plays but covering a guy like Welker who's more than happy to catch a 4 yard pass and turn it into a 7 or 8 yard play and do it 5 times in a row will be a nightmare for Revis.Revis will be on Branch or you'll see him with his tongue hanging out of his mouth covering Welker.Woodhead? seems to me that NE is right back to NE circa 2001 with Patton and Brown, etc...they have no studs on offense other than Brady, but everyone produces because everyone is interchangeable.Surprisingly the Jets, with no front 3, have 24 sacks, 9 behind the NFL leader.anyone who has to ask has Revis been any good this year, either hasnt watched Jet games or doesnt understand if you dont see the CB he is doing his job. TO, AndreJohnson, Megatron and Jennings havent done squat vs. him. nuf said.As for matchups- I would put Revis on Branch, cromartie on one of the TE's and Kyle Wilson on welker in the slot. Before i get flamed, Wilson is a great tackler and Welker catches everything underneath and behind the line so Wilson will always be facing the play. He had trouble with his back turned with PI's and gtting burned by vet WR's early in the season. Is Branch considered a stud now? I'm really asking.
