Who is Lance Ball? (1 Viewer)

NFL-ons

So I am perusing the stat lines from last weeks games and I see Lance Ball (RB-Den) goes 10-75;1-10. Did not see the game and never heard of the guy. Then I think about who comprises the Den backfield.

Knospeed Moreno - Would have loved his opportunity this year but my understanding is he had a pretty bad hamstring injury which he can not seem to recover from and I have seen these things linger throughout a season or career b4, see Donte Stallworth.

Correll Buckhalter - Thought he played better than Moreno last year anyways but he has some kind of back/neck injury where he lost some feeling in his extremities and he has not begun practicing yet.

Landwhale White - Not a lot going on here and he is suspended the first 4 games.

Every year there are a couple of guys who come out of no where and provide fantasy value due to the opportunity.

Could Lance Ball be one of these guys?

I just go with ones I have heard b4. I am not clever enough to come up with them myself.

If Ball becomes relevant, maybe I could come up with one for him.

I saw a lot of him when he was at Maryland. He was a good college RB, not great (though MD had other issues which probably didn't help Ball). I don't recall any physical trait that made me go "wow!", but he did everything pretty well. Honestly, I thought his playing career would be over when he left college & was suprised when I heard he was doing well in Denver. I guess all of this is to say that I have no idea if he's for real or not, but with Denver's RB mess he may be worth rostering in deep dynasty leagues. In redrafts, I'd stay far away from the whole situation.

As another Maryland fan, I would agree with everything Uruk-Hai said. I have not seen him at all in DEN, but I never thought he would do anything in the NFL. It seems to me he's a #4 RB worrying about cuts every year and is getting a chance now due to injuries. I hope nothing for the best for him and hopefully he has improved since Maryland. Go Terps!

He had one run that was like 47 yards where he was pretty much untouched. He's like #5 on the depth chart and will probably not make the team from what I hear.

My speculated depth chart:

1. Moreno - started practicing this week, I have my doubts he'll be ready to go by week 1 and I also have doubts that the Hammy won't linger.

2. Buckhalter - not sure what his ailment is, but he is practicing.

----the above will rotate in and out, interchangeably. This is a true RBBC.

3. White - short yardage specialist, after week 4.

4. Ball - emergency back, will make the team but he only sees the field if Moreno and/or Buckhalter can't go.

outside of that, I think Denver will be a "pass first to seat up the run" type of team, similar to NE circa 2003. In other words, there may not be fantasy value outside of Orton.

3rd Terp fan here who basically agrees. I wish him nothing but the best but honestly would be surprised if he last more than a year or 2 in the NFL or is ever anything more than a practice squad type of guy. He's a dime a dozen RB who may put up some decent nubmers in pre-season against other 3rd and 4th stringers but he will never have any FF impact whatsoever IMO.
