The Jets RB's don't even know... Houston and Blaylock didn't stand out and inept Barlow was acquired in trade... if you have a free roster spot, Barlow is probally the long term favorite... but the starter this week may not be the starter next week. I think it will be fluid until someone steps up... But you have to think the trade for Barlow was for a starter, not a backup
You are probably right. Caveat - I am a Blaylock owner having drafted him in the 15th round. I saw Blaylock play when he was backing up Priest ahead of LJ and this preseason as well. I drafted Blaylock because I believe he is the most talented back on the Jets. He is without question the fastest. He runs through holes quickly and is an above average receiver. However, Barlow has more NFL starter experience and was brought in by this regime. I too think that Barlow will be phased into the starter's role but I don't think that he is a better RB than Blaylock. If Blaylock shines, which is not probable but not impossible either, he could force Mangini to continue starting and playing him.
Barlow buried on latest Jets depth chart Published Thu Sep 7 10:13:00 a.m. ET 2006 (Rotoworld) Kevan Barlow is listed third on the Jets' latest depth chart.Impact: He's behind Derrick Blaylock, the "starter," and second-year back Cedric Houston. New York's running game will be by committee this season, diminishing the fantasy values of all Jets runners.
He's the starter in that he'll be the first RB on the field, but who knows how the carries will be divided. If one guy is getting in a rhythm, he may stay in there. As we've said in many threads, Mangini keeps things very close to the vest like his mentor Belicheck, so it's probably a wait-and-see thing.
