Good grief, here I go again arguing for one of my least favorite players ever.

Kobe is already a slot too low.

Curry is still a couple years of high level basketball away, also because he isnt a 2-way player. Oscar was great, but just a notch away without multiple MVPs or multiple rings (or at least a ring as the #1).

Kobe was simply better for longer than either of those guys.

Everybody except the FFA has Kobe on their Mount Rushmore...and now he's not even in the top 10. It's an indictment of the list IMHO.

Shame on the FFA

I just pulled up 2 lists where Kobe was 11. One had him at 5. I think you could say starting at 7, Kobe was better than every guy on this list, and also every player selected was better than him. It’s close. I have him over Bird and Russell but not the others selected and not Curry.

No, they don't.

Here John Hollinger's list.

I don't always agree with him, but nobody can deny that he's got an encyclopedic knowledge of basketball, both current and historical. So if Kobe needs to be on Mt. Rushmore, in my best Chief Brody voice, "We're going to need a bigger mountain".

Can't access without subscription. Just curious where Kobe, Curry and Oscar sit on that list.

Kobe - 10
Oscar - 12
Curry - 26

I understand projecting current players but there’s too many examples of guys totally falling off or getting injured and their career being essentially over. Curry’s 35 so I’m fine with ranking him off what’s he’s done but I can’t get behind projecting what he may do.

Steph is probably the most influential player on the game since Jordan but he’s not better than Kobe.
Disagree. This is THE best shooter the game has seen and likely ever will see. I voted for Steph last round. Dude single handedly changed all of basketball at all levels. Kobe was great, but he didn't do that.
What do you say when you throw a crumpled napkin or paper in the trash can?

I think that list predated Curry’s last title.

No way is curry better than Kobe

Kobe has more titles, more all-star games, more all-nba, more all-defense, more finals MVPs, more oscars, more points (and ppg), more rebounds (and rpg), more assists, more steals, and more blocks (and bpg).

Steph has more apg, spg, and all the shooting stuff. Plus 1 more MVP.

Clearly a case of either projected the rest of his career out, or just Kobe dislike.

Curry offense > Kobe offense
Kobe defense >>>> Curry defense

Kobe could win you a game on either end of the floor and did. Curry has to have help defensively to make his offense a net positive. If Kerr let him just guard his man one on one every night, he'd be heavily exploited on a regular basis. There is a substantial gap in their defensive effectiveness.

List is perfect imo if Kobe beat Hakeem for #10

Kobe is not top 4...but he isn't #12 either.

1. Michael Jordan (71%)
2. Lebron james (85%).
3. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (34%).
4. Wilt Chamberlain (31%).
5. Magic Johnson (33%).
6. Larry Bird (44%).
7. Bill Russell (67%).
8. Shaquille O'Neal (31%)
9. Tim Duncan (53%).
10. Hakeem Olajuwon (36%).

Hakeem I can see and wouldn't argue. But I can't see moving him above anyone else - I never once thought Kobe was better than any of those guys. 10 vs. 12 isn't that far off. And people liked Hakeem. "Top 10" sounds great but if you are 11 or 12 vs. 10 it's not huge disrespect, IMO.

Kobe is so much better than Bird and Magic as a complete player, that's where this list starts to jump the shark.

Only four reasons people disrespect Kobe

1) efficiency metric truthers - people who overvalue efficiency metrics and/or don't understand what they are and what goes into them

2) Defense doesn't matter homies - people that look at individual offensive stats primarily and don't understand the impact that players like MJ, Kobe and Hakeem had with their defense.

3) Rings don't matter jokesters - self explanatory

4) Shaq earned those rings - Pippen, Wade, Kyrie, kareem....etc. etc. etc.

None of these dings hold water.

Sad times in the FFA.

Forgot one ...

5) Folks that don't like babies that quit on their own team in the playoffs to prove a point.
