Who is the backup in Tampa Bay? (1 Viewer)

I hate to ask this question when Simms is in critical condition, and I hope no one lashes out at me for this being inappropriate, but this is a fantasy football forum, so someone needs to ask the question.

Who would start at QB if Simms is out for a significant period of time?

Again, my thoughts and prayers are with Chris, and the entire Simms family.

According to ourlads, Gradkowski is #2 on the depth chart. We would need a Tampa homer to confirm that if it he were out for an extended period time, that Gradz and not Rattay would be the man. Also, best wishes to Chris Simms.

I can't believe people on this board!
Can't believe what?
Sorry that I wasn't more specific...I can't believe that some are worried about his backup when the dude's in critical condition. Although I have just read that he isn't critical.
There's a thread for people to be worried about him - and there's a thread discussing the fantasy implications of his injury. I think it'd be inappropriate to dicuss the fantasy implications in the other thread, and I think this thread has been conducted in a respectful manner.

Being 0-3 and coming off of a bye, if Simms isn't ready, and I hope he is, I would imagine Grads would get the start.

Rattay has zero future with the Bucs.

True, but isn't Gruden all about winning. I don't think he's in rebuilding mode right now...

Yes, but as amazing as this may sound, Gradkowski may actually give the Bucs a better chance to win than Rattay would. From everything I've heard, he's been positively awful. If McCown or Fielder were healthy, he wouldn't be on the roster.

Go light a candle for the dude if you want. Life goes on. Do you want them to cancel the game tonight because he's hurt? Move along.

 to your :thumbdown:Look, no one is wishing ill of Chris Simms. He's hurt and looks to be out of action for at least a couple of weeks. As a Simms owner, I'm looking to Tampa :homer: to tell me who I should pick up off the WW as his replacement. I'm not trying to shovel dirt on the kid's face. Nobody here wants him to die, be paralyzed or be unable to support himself so ease up already.

How is his mobility? Rushing yards a possibility?

Like someone already said, there's another thread to discuss Simms' health. There's nothing wrong with discussing who his backup is. Those who disagree, bite me :boxing:

Gradkowski is going to really surpise people with his mobility. Very good speed & elusiveness. He really didn't have to run in college, but he'll get to use that part of his game in the pros (scrambling).

Just heard during the halftime talk that Simms maybe out up to 2 to 3 months according to the doctors they consulted. So that is pretty much the rest of the season. Only time will tell. The doctors consulted said he would be able to resume his career once he heals. So will the rookie be the backup for the rest of the season is a good question.

I don't know who will come in for Simms, the report from half-time show says he will recover and play football again, but not this year more than likely. Recovery from 2-3 months. So I would say this is a legit discussion.

From Rotoworld:

Bruce Gradkowski is the favorite to start at quarterback now that Chris Simms is out for 2-3 months.Tampa could turn to Tim Rattay or a veteran to be named later, but it's likely that the promising sixth-round rookie will get the call. He'll have a few weeks to get ready because Tampa is on a bye. He's not someone worth owning in most redraft formats.

Can't say I'm real sad Simms is out as a Clayton owner.

Simms' time in Tampa (on one year deal) is more than likely over.

i think simms is a complete turd as a player, but kinda wrong to piss on his grave like this :(
Sucks what happened to him & hope he's fine in the future.Just speaking reality here. I think he's an awful QB. He's a great practice QB that can make all the throws Monday - Saturday & in camp.
