Who is your favorite football player? (1 Viewer)

I'll start with mine. I'm a Steeler fan, but I would love this guy even if I wasn't, in the same way I loved Junior Seau in the 90's. Troy Polamalu gives 100% effort on every play, and he is a phenomenal safety. That interception he had yesterday in the 1st quarter was one of the greatest plays I have ever seen. Plus, he seems like a generally nice guy.

1st runner up: Marion Barber.

I'm a big fan of Deuce McAllister from his days back at Ole Miss. Too bad his career is likely winding down.

Deuce McAllister

1st RU: Anquan Boldin

It used to be Marvin Harrison but something made me change this last year.

But thats nothing new for me. OJ used to be my favorite GOAT. Something made me change my mind though.

I have 2:

MJD...just love the fact that he's smaller than me and hits like a champ. I could watch him lay out Meriman all day.

Cutler...history of diabetes in my family puts him on my list. could be a star for a long time here.

Tony Gonzalez. Athletic, hard working, great blocker, solid basketball power forward, and a great guy. He saved a guy's life this year; how can you top that?

I will have to give a vote out to Drew Brees for me this season. He is a really great QB and is a lot of fun to watch week to week. I am not from or near NO but just think he is the best QB this season and no reason to say he can't repeat that again.

I'm a Giants fan, so it's almost blasphemy to say this, but I love Marion Barber. I just love the way he plays. Of course, he's been on my fantasy team since I picked him up off waivers during his rookie year, so that's part of it also.

I'm a Rutgers alumnus, so I love all RU players in the NFL, but especially Ray Rice.

Next year I'll have a mancrush on Kenny Britt.

I first watched MJD in high school. It was a famous game- Long Beach Poly vs. Concord De La Salle. Poly was ranked #1 in the nation and featured such stars as Marcedes Lewis, Darnell Bing, Herschel Dennis, and Winston Justice. De La Salle was a much smaller school, but had not lost a game in five years! But they featured MJD, this dynamic little back with strong legs who ran all over the field. He literally won that game all by himself.

There was a ton of talent on that field that day. Manuel Wright was also on that Poly team, and De La Salle had Derek Landri (now with the Jags), and Matt Gutierrez (Patriots), among dozens of other D-1 talent.I will never forget when he ran over Darnell Bing to score one of his 4 (?) TDs that day. It was an incredible performance.

On the Steelers - Troy Polamalu; Runners-up - Hines Ward and James Harrison

In the NFL - Maurice Jones-Drew, Calvin Johnson, Marion Barber, Anquan Boldin, Brandon Marshall, and Drew Brees (of course, this probably changes from year-to-year)

Patrick Willis will take over as soon as Ray Lewis retires as far as players whose games I will watch solely to see that player play.

As a Rams fan I don't have a lot to pick from on my team. I am hoping we get the Weatherspoon kid from Mizzou after next season.

Barrett Ruud is another guy on the radar.

I'm gonna tell Steve Smith all you guys picked someone else. Nice knowing you all ;) Garts your hospital stay should be a brief one, you were smart enough to at least put him on your list.

I've always been a big fan of Portis. The guy is simply tough as nails and a truly complete RB. It's a thing of beauty to watch the passion this guy pass blocks with and he always finishes his runs.

I've also always loved Randy Moss. Simply the most freakish athlete I've ever seen grace a football field.

I'm becoming a huge fan of Boldin this year. Never really paid a great deal of attention to him before, but the guy is like a RB that plays WR and runs fabulous routes with hands.

Ed Reed is another guy I've always been partial towards and have a huge amount of respect. He isn't playing as well now as he has in years past but still I'd take him over any S in the league.

Current player - LT - Showing signs of wear after a workhorse first 7 years in the NFL. How much of a horse was he? His average season was 338 carries for 1521 yards, and 65 catches for 482 yards. Yes folks, that's an average of 403 touches for 2003 yards... for 7 straight years! Oh yeah, he also averaged 18 TD's.

Retired player - Dan Fouts/Kellen Winslow Sr. - Can't really decide between these two. Dan looked like a lumberjack in pads. And Kellen Sr. was a true warrior.

Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

I have seen many great athletes, but no one comes near the charisma and intensity of Ray Lewis. I go to every Ravens game and the place absolutely erupts when he is introduced and does his dance. It's unreal. His intensity rubs off on the entire defense.

I'm a Dolphins fan: Right now, Chad, Porter and Will Allen are playing great..

As for the NFL: Fitzy, Boldin, Portis, Bush, James Harrison, Sanders, and Brandon Marshall. OK, so I went a little overboard. :goodposting:

Packers fan:

Favorite Packer: Greg Jennings. Genuinely good guy, and dynamite player.

Non Packer offense: Steve Smith. What he did to the Bears in the playoffs in 2006 is legendary among my friends and I. (12/218/2).

Packer Defender: Charles Woodson. He's playing unreal CB right now.

Non Packer defense: Polamalu. That play was unreal yesterday. Great player, and gives it his all.

Being a Jets fan, I love Leon Washington and his game-changing speed. I've also always admired Marvin Harrison for his extraordinary talent and professionalism.

These are guys I root for, notwithstanding fantasy points or anything else, just because I like their approach to stuff and the way they play the game:

QB: Jay Cutler, Tony Romo

RB: Adrian Peterson

WR: Andre Johnson, Anquan Boldin, Hines Ward

TE: Jason Witten

On my rookies I'm hoping don't act silly in their careers list are Eddie Royal and Joe Flacco because I think it might be nice to root for these guys. They seem to be adults and professionals already, which is refreshing.

A thread on players I not-so-secretly loathe would yield a much longer list.

Good thread.

It's interesting to me that no one so far listed Brett Favre. I guess the whole offseason thing took away a big chunk of his popularity. If I had started this thread a year ago, I'm pretty sure Favre would be a popular choice.

My faves................

Polamalu - so instinctive, runs and hits, covers so much ground, alwayd intense and goingat full speed

Boldin - one tough SOB

Warner - giving old men all over hope

James Harrison - a game changer on the defensive line

Hell, I love all of them - even the scoundrels and old villians like Jack Tatum and Conrad Dober, who add spice to the game :football:

49er fan:

Gore and Willis

LT has been my guy over the last several years, but I'm realizing how much FF affects my rooting interests. Haven't been able to draft LT for a few years, and my fandom has shrunk accordingly.

#1 - Ray Lewis

Runner Ups: Ed Reed, Clinton Portis, Reggie Wayne, Edgerrin James, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore, Andre Johnson, Santana Moss, Sinorice Moss, Roscoe Parrish, Kellen Winslow, Jeremey Shockey, Greg Olsen, Bubba Franks, Devin Hester, Jon Beason, Jonathan Vilma, DJ Williams, Rocky McIntosh, Antrel Rolle, Kenny Phillips, Vince Wilfork, Nate Webster, Jeff Feagles, Baraka Atkins, Calais Campbell, Leon Williams, Tavares Gooden, Bryant McKinnie, Eric Winston, Chris Myers, Brandon Meriweather, Kelly Jennings, Phillip Buchanon, Brock Berlin, Rashad Butler, Ken Dorsey, Orien Harris, Buck Ortega, Brett Romberg, Santonio Thomas, Williams Joseph, Vernon Carey, Damione Lewis, Darrell McClover, Jerome McDougle

:football:

Peyton Manning - I love the way he prepares and plays all of the games. Off the field, he's a nice guy and very normal. I'm also a big fan of Drew Brees for many of the same reasons. Both of them do a lot of things off the field which show that they are good human beings.
