Who made a really bad move this season? (1 Viewer)

I targeted Ray Rice as my sleeper of the year preseason, then drafted him in the 5th round of a keep-three league. Costs one pick higher than the previous year to keep, can be on roster 3 years max. Worried about the goalline and carries situation after week two(when McGahee got like 19 carries) so figured I'd pull a shark move by trading him for Slaton on a buy low, who could be kept with a 6th round pick as opposed to a 4th round pick for Rice. Trade was looking ok for a while but Rice got basically all the touches after that game, then you know how the rest went. Been trying everything to get Rice back ever since, with no success.

Thank goodness I picked up Jamaal Charles to somewhat offset my stupidity. Can keep him with a 7th round pick.

In another league I was in, a guy dropped Cedric Benson somewhere around week 7. Although he was using his wife's account, so we figure he must have done something wrong and she logged on and made the drop. Just a lesson to never give out your password.

Dropped Ray Rice after 3 games because I thought McGahee would be a big factor, especially in the red zone. I thought he would just be another 'between the 20s' back

Dropped Sidney Rice and protected T.J. Houshmandzadeh instead, because I felt the drafting of Harvin was a big sign that Rice wasn't going to pan out like I'd hoped--and hey, Housh isn't exciting, but surely they'll feed him the ball a lot so he'll put up respectable WR2-3 numbers, right?

Miles Austin was dropped in all three of my leagues. The three owners are still stewing.

I picked him up in all three the week Roy Williams hurt his ribs. To be honest I was looking for a bye week filler then I was going to cut him myself.

In one keeper league I kept Bowe over Marshall and Portis over Addai. Fell for the dysfunctional Broncos camp and Donald Brown traps. Won the title anyway but Marshall would have been a great keeper for 2010.

In another league, I dropped Sidney Rice after week 2 for Antonio Bryant. Then the Minny-SF game happened and I've been cursing myself ever since.

That reminds me: I picked up Vernon Davis after his first huge game, then promptly traded him for the Jets D and held on to Witten. Wasn't happy about that one either.

Dropped Charles the week before LJ melted down.

Dropped J. Harrison after he did nothing against Pittsburgh.

I dropped Harrison after the PITT game. An owner in my league grabbed him after his blowup game and won his playoff game w him and is now playing in the SB.

I traded Jamaal Charles at the deadline for Felix Jones....thinking he may have some big games down the stretch...whoooooops

Also traded Thomas Jones for McNabb early on, but needed McNabb (have Peyton) to win the league last week so it really wasn't that bad of a move afterall.

Ohhhh yeah I dropped Jamal Charles as well. Too many injuries and bye weeks created tough roster decisions or rather WRONG roster decisions

I don't know if this was a really bad move, but in hindsight it didn't turn out the way that I wanted or expected it to.

I traded 1.12 in the 2009 Rookie Draft (Dynasty League) for Derrick Ward. I expected that Ward would be the #1 back at best and an even split in RBBC at worst. But Cadillac Williams came back and had the majority of the carries during the season making Ward pretty much unstartable for most of the season.

Definitely qualifies. Welcome to the club.

Dropped Seattle Kicker for Rackers for my week 16 SuperBowl. Had no idea he was hurt. lost by 4.79 points. Still would have lost with Mare, but there were plenty of other FA's that would have won me the league.

We had a 12 team league at work $20 each...

One dummy picked the Bear's D with their second pick...

My top 3 were Brees, Fitzgerald and Desean Jackson.

In an IDP league dropped Will Smith early in the season - he went on to finish as a top 5 DL. Oh well.

If we want to talk all time bad moves, I traded MJD for Carson Palmer in his rookie season after he blew up a few weeks in a row. I bought into the talk that he would never be a workhorse type back without having actually watched him play a whole lot. Valuable lesson learned, though. Always make sure to watch enough gamefilm of players to form my own unbiassed opinions on their talent/potential.

In a PPR dynasty early in the season, I was offered Roddy in exchange for one of either Slaton or Gore. I chose to trade away Gore because he was going to be injured for a game or two. :bag:

Traded Chris Johnson for Turner in a dynasty league. In my defense though, it was when the Titans were 0-6, and the Falcons were looking good.

One guy in a league of mine drafted Austin in the 14th round, then Celek in the 15th and proceeded to drop them both within a few weeks.

Dropped Ray Rice after 3 games because I thought McGahee would be a big factor, especially in the red zone. I thought he would just be another 'between the 20s' back
I did the exact same thing in a TD heavy league - 3rd week too.. I was so miserable about it, I went back a few weeks ago to see how much of a difference it made on my team. I would have won 2 more games with him in. So instead of 6-10, I'd be 8-8. Still not in the playoffs. Oh - well. Usually I'm more patient but I screwed the Rice thing up majorly.

Dropped Vernon Davis and kept Keller... Agh
Cut Vernon loose in 2 dynasty leagues.....yep....this past off-season to make room for some rookies. It happens. The guy looked like a major bust through 2 uninspiring team with no apparent QB.....not many people saw this coming.

Did the same thing, but did it to keep Calvin Johnson. The guy I traded him to won the league.

Traded Peyton for Schaub about week 7 when it looked like Colts would be sitting by week 14. Schaub still performed well, but I think Peyton scored probably 2-3 more PPG.

Early in the year with LT2 sucking, Maroney still on the bench, etc. I traded Tomlinson, Maroney, Sidney Rice, Burleson and Michael Clayton for Matt Forte. This was in a salary cap league where you can keep players for 3 years with annual salary increases.

The league was up in arms for the other owner "giving" the young stud Forte for an old guy and a bunch of junk. Well, we know how that worked out now, don't we...

LT2 has had a decent second half. Maroney was great for most of the year after Taylor got hurt and Sidney has been a stud. Burleson and Clayton not so much.

Forte has stunk, but I might start him in the championship game this week. Luckily, I had ADP and Benson to carry my team most of the year at RB.

good times.

kept Felix Jones over Ray Rice as my rookie keeper. I had 2 starting RB's already (DeAngelo and MJD) and figured i could afford to take who i perceived as the better talent (Jones) even though i might have to wait a year or 2 for RB1 production.

Rice is our league's # 3 RB scorer. Jones is # 46 and I'll be dropping him.

Dropped Vernon Davis the week before his huge game to pick up Heath Miller.

The dumbest move in my league came from the owner of the team that lost to me. He dropped Jonathan Stewart, and I picked him right up. He started having occasional big games the second week I owned him.

Cut Fred Davis early in a 2pt/catch TE league.

Traded LT for Jamal Lewis/1st, so this might work out. I lost the finals this year because of it though.

Cut Harrison for Chris Jennings.

Traded Hines Ward for Donnie Avery in a dynasty league.

I also have Big Ben and Santonio Holmes in this league and wanted to breakup the trio mainly for matchup purposes. It was early in the season when the trade occurred (week 2 or 3) and I saw Avery as a good buy low target and Ward as a good sell high candidate as I thought Holmes was going to take over and render him too inconsistent for fantasy purposes.

Whoops. I'll be more careful when going after good players on crappy teams in the future.

Took Braylon over VJax in the 5th round. Was going to go VJax all the way come my pick, then wimped out for the 'huge upside' bloke.

Last year I dropped DeAngelo Williams in a redraft after he was kind of quiet at the beginning of the year. I know it was last year but I'm STILL hearing about it from the owners in my league. If they can carry it over into this year (and future ones, I'm sure) then I can mention it here, right?

I feel your pain. Dropped him the morning of his breakout and I will never hear the end of it. I think it was because of Schaub's mystery illness, and I needed a QB. F.

3. Dropped Sidney Rice and picked up M Mossequi (sp?)

2. Traded Boldin for Turner a week or 2 before Turner was out for pretty much the rest of the year

and my number 1

1. Picked up 49ers D against Det for the championship game and couldn't talk myself into pulling the Saints D out against the Bucs to start the Niners. Lost by 3 and Niners D had 13 more pts then Saints :goodposting:

The only move I really regret this season out of all my leagues was trading away Miles Austin for Romo and Santana Moss in a 2 for 1 deal after his "blow up" game against the Chiefs............Its a dynasty league and I didn't need to strengthen my depth at QB. I Really thought I was capitalizing and improving my over all roster by moving him after that game.....I never thought he would sustain WR#1 numbers the rest of the season once defenses started focusing on him.........I was flat out wrong.

That's the only move I wish I could "undo".......but I guess its good to have only "one" move to regret instead of more.

I refused a trade. I had Steve Smith (NYG) and was offered Ray Rice in a keeper league. It was early in the season and SSmith was the #1 WR in our league and Ray Rice was the 'between the 20s' back that wasn't going to score any touchdowns.

on the opposite side

a guy in my league dropped Schaub after week 1 - I picked him up

then traded me A. Johnson and Ray Rice for Steven Jackson and D. Bowe

Then to add some icing, he started Harvin (out) in week 14 the start of our playoffs instead of DeSean Jackson (35 points).

Drafted Ronnie Brown and Ray Rice (Targeted both as preseason sleepers) ... Worried about Dolphins O and McGahee after 2 weeks I traded both for D'Wll who I desperately wanted with my first pick of the draft and Donald Brown.Lost the next 2 games ... Brown and Rice would have easily been the difference ... and missed the playoffs for the fist time in around 10 years. Easily the most costly trade of my FF carreer.

I cannot believe how many of you guys missed on Ray Rice! I had this guy pegged as a stud three years ago at Rutgers after watching him singlehandedly beat North Carolina while romping for 214 yards from scrimmage and 3 touchdowns. This just goes to show how harmful groupthink can be. All lot of people here were talking down Rice before this season started with only a single year of professional experience upon which to base their opinions. Do your due diligence, people, especially for the all-important RB position. RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!!!

Anyway, I wiffed on Fred Davis. Picked him up after Cooley got hurt and promptly dropped him after a 2 catch, 26 yard performance at Atlanta. Ended up being stuck with Dustin Keller for the remainder of the season who defined mediocrity this year as far as tight ends go.

drafted Calvin Johnson over Andre Johnson in my #1 league.

.... which was not that unheard of in August but my reasoning is what has me fuming..

I had Andre Johnson (rated as my #1 WR for this year) in 3 other leagues that had prior drafts and took Megatron just to mix it up / hedge my bets.... other 3 leagues I had AJ in I cashed big time... Calvins league I barely missed the playoffs due to his far too many dud games which I lost by under 10 points numerous times.

Just hate doing research and preperation and going against myself.

Chose to buy Moreno and Donald Brown for a dollar more than Ray Rice in my auction. Traded for Rice later but I was already sitting at 0-5.

I held onto Anthony Gonzales for the entire year. Because I figured he'd be back, I did not pick up from the waiver wire in week 1-3 any of Steve Smith, Miles Austin, Sidney Rice, Derrick Mason, Simms-Walker, or Meacham. :goodposting: Austin probably would have won me the league.

Lost championship due to a calamity of moves......by 5.3 pts

1. had no internet due to being at parents in BFE....didn't hear about Brohm starting so sat ATL (29pts) over NO (8 pts)

2. made poor decision to start Hartley indoors vs. TB over Akers outside vs. DEN.....cost me 8 pts and win

3. could have started Aromashadu vs. Minny over Hines Ward and hammy.....oops!

Prior to this....

1. dumped Mendenhall week before FWP's turf toe kicked in...yuck

2. dumped Jerome Harrison week after Jennings got all touches....double yuck

At the beginning of the last off-season I made without a doubt my worst dynasty trade ever. I had a huge need at TE, felt pretty good about my running backs, and the Ray Rice hype train hadn't rolled around yet. I was offered Dustin Keller for Rice and took it. Terrible trade that would've been even worse had I not traded Keller to get Witten.

That's what kills me. I did do the research. Knew I needed a RB that I could get late who would be a semi-stud at least. Watched every preseason game there was and saw that Ray Rice had the talent and power, was built very sturdy, was getting the touches, and I saw him as a goalline back mold as well, kinda like MJD. Basically just panicked after McGahee was getting all the touchdowns and it looked like he was gonna get the majority of carries as well.

Dropped Vernon Davis after Gates had his bye week to free up a roster spot. Dropped Mendenhall to free up a roster spot as well.
