Who owns a Roomba? (1 Viewer)

Do I really need to buy a new filter as often as they say, or is there something I can do to effectively clean mine out and make the thing run just as well?

Overall, I have been very impressed since I bought it in February, but I think it’s becoming less efficient than it was.

I have been wondering the exact same thing about the filter.  Just this week I left the filter out as a reminder to get more.  I don't think I've changed it once.

And I too have been impressed with the amount of stuff that thing collects.  And how thorough it is.  Five stars.

I just got the new Roborock S7 a month ago.  If you have hard floors rather than carpet, it is a lifesaver as it vacuums and mops.

I also have a new Dyson V15 stick vac.  The laser is great for spotting dirt and dust.  The soft brush is perfect for hard floors.

We got the i7+ that emtpies itself.  It's been a god send.  We have a german shepherd that sheds, and it's fantastic for that.

It reduces dramatically the amount of sweeping we have to do.

Wow, that thing mops, too?!?!  I have a bad dust allergy and get a lot of it.  That might be worth the $650.

I have hard floors but they are an uneven wood-type floor.  I just read that they say it adjusts to unevenness but of course they're going to claim that.  Thoughts?

I don’t have uneven floors, but we do have small rugs in front of entry ways and it definitely does adjust to those.  For the mopping, it lifts the heads and for vacuuming it increases the suction.  I watched a few YouTube video reviews before ordering it.  This guy is pretty thorough in his reviews:

Updates? thinking about getting one. Small house, 1,000 sq. feet. Just me and the cat. Getting sick of the hair and litter.
Just got one myself. Amazon deal days.... And a new place with a large open wood floor area that I don't really want to sweep all the time. Need to hook it up and see how it goes.

After owning a Roomba for a few years now, I feel like the bad/annoying outweighs the good. It's super loud, it often gets lost/stuck under something, it's annoying in that it seems to have this pattern which goes like this. So it will do 1/3 of the living room, seems to get bored and moves on to the kitchen, it quickly gets discouraged/disgusted and does about an 1/8 of that room, then it goes down the hallway and does 1/2 the hallway, it pokes itself into my office for a peek around, gets discouraged/disgusted, rolls down the hallway to hug the opposite wall leaving the middle untouched and then eventually gets hung up on the thick, small rug 8 times in the foyer before it calls it a day. So, much less expensive but only slightly better than a distracted teenager.

Did you buy Johnny 5 with a vacuum attachment?

Hopefully I ordered the unpossessed model.

We had a Roomba for several years and eventually came to the same conclusion. It was constantly getting stuck under furniture or similar. What finally caused us to toss it was we had two different Roomba models that failed in the exact same way - they'd constantly say their bin was full when it wasn't. No matter how much we tried to clean them out and make sure nothing was blocking the sensor, it would just constantly stop running with the bin full error. Maybe they've improved a bunch over the past 2-3 years, but I totally agree that the bad outweighed the good for us too.

We've had a RoboRock Q Revo for over a year now and love it. We don't have carpet, but do have quite a few rugs. The newer generation of robovacs plot out each room and will vacuum/mop it in a logical way instead of the randomness of the old school roombas. Ours rarely gets stuck and has clean/dirty water tanks on the base that are large enough for a week's worth of daily cleanings. It does a great job with pet hair as well. It is awesome not having to deal with that aspect of cleaning the house. As with all robovacs, you need to stow cords and whatnot, but do that once and you're good.

Honestly with three dogs I don't care how drunk or stupid these robots are. They're gonna find dog hair anywhere and it's great for keeping that to a dull roar. Just got a Roborock in the Amazon sale and it seems to be pretty decent. Old, drunk Roomba is on hair duty downstairs now.

Have bought 3 over the past 20 years. Gone thru many batteries. They have worked great. Oldest needs a battery and a front wheel. 2nd oldest works fine.

The latest one is about a year old. If I program it to do the whole floor (4 rooms) it wanders aimlessly and takes 8 hours with multiple recharges. Programmed to do 2 rooms, it takes 1/2 hour. Then 2hours later the other 2 rooms, another 1/2 hour. Why do I get all 4 rooms cleaned in 3 hours separately but 8 hours together. The newer one does miss a lot more areas because a dog toy was in the way rather than bumping into it.

My wife loves ours also as it really helps mitigate the dog hair. It is a newer model after our earlier model (~5 years old?) became less effective. She does keep up on the maintenance though, by cleaning it and changing brush rollers on a regular schedule.

we had a roomba back in 04 and we named him sweepy well one day we left the front door open because it was a nice april day and he got loose and headed up broadway heading out of town and we never saw him again but then last week i was driving to a foundry in gary and under an overpass i saw old sweepy he looked worn and haggard and he had a beard and a few scars but i knew right away it was sweepy we brought him home got him off of the sauce and living this side of the line again and he seems thankful and when he is ready hopefully he will tell us what went down take that to the bank brochachos
