Who will be this year's Willis McGahee? (1 Viewer)

All-in on Julius Jones

- Can't stay healthy

- MBIII is a stud

- Coach has publicly criticized toughness

Last year he went late first / early second.  This year is higher.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
In 2004 his consensus ranking was approximately RB21 and in 2005 it was approximately RB13. This year its Approximately RB6. Big differences. The question this thread is asking is for an early to middle first round pick who will perform like a late second round pick in 2006. If you took Tiki's ADP from 2004 and 2005 it would be a late second round pick. He's 31 yo. Odds are very good he performs more like the late second round pick people used to expect from him than the early first they are expecting this year. That's why he's one of the top considerations in this thread.

I think people are picking him as though he's in a simliarly explosive offense...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
...that was #32 in rushing attempts, rushing yards, rushing yards per attempt, and rushing TDs last year.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Obviously Edge can improve on that. How much depends on how the o-line has improved.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Well they have a real O-Line coach this year, they should be healthier and this TUI kid is described as a "road grader" by almost every writeup I've seen. They will not be as bad as last year, how much better is anyone's guess.

I was one of the first people to mention him to be considered. Not that it matters, but RB13 was late first/early second last year.

deuce latui will be a very nice addition to that line.

Add Julius Jones to the list.

So far I have:

- Tiki Barber

- Julius Jones

- Kevin Jones

All three are going to be drafted in the second round or earlier and will have HORRIBLE value.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I understand where you are coming from on Tiki Barber, but I think he's earned the right to rank as a top 5 fantasy back. He's only finished 2nd and 4th the last two years. What I took away from JoeT's McGahee post last year was that McGahee hadn't earned the right to be RB5. Sure he had a decent season as a soph ranking RB9 or whatever, but he hadn't done what it takes to be a top 5 RB and his situation was looking dire heading into the season. He had no business being ranked where he was.

That is not Tiki. Yes he's 31, but he was 30 last year and put up some pretty good numbers. He wasn't coming off multiple injuries like Priest Holmes was. The 400 touch season last year is kinda scary though.

I'm not saying Tiki will finish RB4, but he's earned the right to be ranked in that area. He's not being ranked on hype. He's been there, done that and got the T-Shirt.

But that's my point. I have always been one of the biggest Tiki fans there is. The reason is because he would be a late first round caliber back in the third round (early second last year). Now he is older, ranked 4th and has absolutely no room to improve. Ranking a 30+ y/o back in your top 5 is setting yourself up for a big mistake. He may have a very nice year but he has NO value and that is not the kind of back I like to draft.

This has nothing to do with hype/performance, but rather ranking relative to upside.

I agree that Tiki is being drafted at value. But so is everyone else in the top 5. You aren't getting any bargains with those picks.Yes, Tiki will not be a tremendous value like he used to.

No, this does not mean his ranking is incorrect.

Man I wish Peyton Manning was going top3 overall again. He's still overrated at the bottom of the 1st.

What the hell was up with him being ranked there anyway? I thought people knew better.

It does if there will be 3 or 4 RBs that will finish the season better than him.Tiki will not be a top 5 RB this year. But if people think he deserves that ranking based on past success, I fully welcome that.

If he were ranked RB5 or so last year, would he have deserved that?

Everyone, even many mods here were drinking that Kool Aid.It's like everyone forgot basic fundamentals of value and went temporarily insane.

However, at WCOFF he didn't go until the late first last year in pretty much every league so people in the high stakes leagues knew the folly of him being that high (but were still making a mistake...just not as big).

Not that it matters, but RB13 was late first/early second last year.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
RB 13 amounts to approximately the 17th player off the board. RB 21 equates to approximately the 29th overall pick. That averages 23 which in the standard we use of a 12 team league amounts to a late second round pick. Which is what I said.I'm only defending my statement that Tiki's value has esculated in the minds of the consensus which proves my point that people like to bank on the previous year's results for the upcoming year. This is true of any player.
