no matter how many players or coaches leave, NE still finds a way to win. it's hard not to be a fan of what they continue to accomplish.

Pats by 10 (because I said Ravens by 10 and the Colts won).

Honestly - nothing would surprise me after this weekend's games.

I expect the Patriots to focus on using the run a lot more in this game. The SDC game was waaayy too lop-sided offensively.

P-A-T-S! PATS, PATS, PATS!

I mean we did just beat the best team in the NFL this season, right? :wall:

I've said this everytime but again I really think Indy's personnel is just far superior.
The Chargers had much better talent than the Pats but that didn't get the Chargers a W today. I think the Colts and Pats are close in talent.

Pats have maybe one DB capable of lining up on an Indy WR, will be on the road and Indy is very good there. I still have to pick NE.

This is the Colts year. Mark it down.
Never heard that one before
Sarcasm down? You new here? Seriously I already called it so don't rain on my parade. Colts to the Subpar Bowl. Mark it down.
I like peyton and his family and I'd love for him to finally get what I believe he does deserve, but I really believe the team that was supposed to win the big game was last years and the year before. I cant see them getting past the Pats, especially if Harrison can come back. I would love to see the Colts vs Saints to be honest. Mostly because Peyton is from here, and I dont like our chances against the pats. (If they can leave Chicago with a ring that is)

It's really very simple. The Colts CAN stop NE on the ground, so I'm not worried about that. The Colts have to stop Brady from nickle and diming them to death with the short passing game. If NE is able to get 2nd and 3 all day because of the short passes, it spells trouble for the Colts and time of possession. I think the Colts need to play close to the line of scrimmage and take their chances that NE is unable to connect on too many big plays. Bob Sanders will be called upon once again to have a major impact on this game.

Per my rankings:

http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=299811

Magic numbers (scoring offense ranking + scoring defense ranking):

Patriots (7th offense, 2nd defense) = 7+2 = 9

Colts (3rd offense, 23rd defense) 3+23 = 26

Magic numbers of 20+ of conference champs since 1990:

2003 Panthers: 25

1999 Titans: 22

1991 Bills: 21

2000 Giants: 20

All lost the Super Bowl.

The 1979 Rams had a magic number of 26. They won the NFC but lost to the Steelers in the Super Bowl. Its been a long, long time since a club with a magic number as bad as the 2006 Colts went to the Super Bowl.

With regards to the Super Bowl OR AFC/NFC championship, no club since 1990 has won any of the three with a magic number as big as the Colts. The Patriots have an NFL championship-quality magic number.

Offensive and Defensive Efficiencies (yards per point):

nwe 14.44 O, 19.87 D

ind 14.42 O, 14.76 D

Teams that have a better OE and DE than their title game opponent are 13-2 since 1990. However, the efficiencies are split in this AFC title game. The Colts barely have the edge on offense by 0.02. When the efficiencies are split, the club with the offensive advantage (the Colts in this case) are 5-3 since 1990. Teams that have a better OE since 1990 are 25-7 in this game. But they are merely 7-3 from 2001 on. Teams with a better DE are 19-13 in conference title games since 1990. They are 6-4 from 2001 on. Its muddled.

To sum up my views:

1. The Colts "magic number" isn't good enough.

2. The Colts edge in OE is so slight.

Patriots should win this game, and I feel 80% confident in that.

Someone mentioned I'd make a killing in Vegas a few days ago. Well, I wouldn't bet on this stuff. Its just for fun. For example, an injury to Tom Brady would change everything. I'm assuming no major catastrophes like that. Which is no guarantee.

One of the ways the Patriots make up for that is how well they tackle. It so amazing how often the first guy to make contact brings the ball carrier down - especially solo tackles in the open where a miss would result in a gain of another 10 yards+. However, it was impressive to see LT2 move so quickly that the Patriots were whiffing on him.I saw a stat today that said since October 30th, the Patriots have allowed only 3 gains of 50 yards or more.

I'll be chearing for the Colts, but it's REALLY hard to pick against the Patriots under any condition.

What's the line? Pick'em?

It sounds like the Patriots players feel they just won the Super Bowl after beating the Chargers, while the Colts looked like beating Baltimore was just one step of the journey.

Colts 20, Pats 17

Link to the quotes of Patriots players sounding like they just won the Super Bowl?

My guess is that he's talking about the reaction right after the victory yesterday, not any post-game quotes.

So cheering vehemently after a hard fought, physical game that sends you to the AFC Championship game is a sign that they're due for a letdown?

I don't think so. I'm just saying what I think he meant, nothing more.

Any reference to the Pats acting as if they just won the Super Bowl is ludicrous. It's all business for them, its the attitude that they've continued to take under BB and it has worked pretty well. If anyone is counting on team focus to be the deciding factor in next week's game, don't count against the Pats.

I said before... though IND isn't really built for a long, arduous, run through the playoffs; I hate the prospect of playing them for one game because of how explosive that offense can be.

Now, with IND seemingly playing better (run and run D), they' re winning without Manning bailing them out.

Sure, I believe my Pats can win this one, but I am by no means taking IND lightly. It's still their terrific passing game against our mediocre secondary.

Colts D looks pretty solid and this game is going to be a dogfight down to the end. If Brady plays like he did yesterday, this game will be a blow out. Should be a classic...

Patriots 27

Colts 21

OVERTIME

:scared:

Going with the Colts.

They aren't playing Colt type football lately. Their Defense is playing with a big chip on their shoulder and Manning rarely has 3 bad games in a row.

This just in: Colts D is the same D it was all season. The difference is that the Colts are doing a baetter job of planning / scheming. The KC game was a joke, and the Ravens again got out-schemed. Think the Pats will? Think again

:goodposting: i'm still in a showme phase for the colts run def.chiefs:they put like 8-9 guys in the box, and chiefs couldn't throw or catchravens:jamal lewis has not been the same guyi think the patriots will have success running against the colts.it's going to be up to peyton to win the game, which he will do. no rodney harrison, no ty law. no problem.

Colts are the best team in the NFL, and with the exception of Manning, they are finally playing at their peak level....except this year, the team is fueled by Peyton's failures:

- Peyton throws a pick? No problem, the defense creates a turnover and gets it right back.

- Manning can't throw a completion? No problem, Addai/Rhodes & the OL will take over the game.

- QB can't get the team into the end zone? No problem, the Colts have the most clutch kicker in the game and Vinatieri will reward the team with points.

Only a monumental collapse by Indy can prevent them from winning it all.

 I think the Patriots are much more balanced than Kansas City and much better at rushing the ball than Baltimore. If they put 8/9 in the box, they will get burned.

Also a game in which I'd really like to have Rodney Harrison back - the Patriot defense really doesn't have anyone that physical in the secondary lately.

There were RUMORS of Harrison having damage to his ACL, but they were refuted by his agent.

Personally, I think that Manning has shaken the Patsjinx. If the defense can keep to the level they've been at for the last couple weeks, it will be very hard for the Pats to withstand the Colts at their stadium.

I think that the Colts defense has obviously played much better, but against two offenses that are much less dynamic and dangerous as the Patriots'. that's just me.
