Who's going to win?
Rovers said:As a Jets fan, I like the way this poll is going......
Maybe 16 weeks ago those things were said, but not now. They're clearly one of the better teams in the league. They made the playoffs in the AFC. IIRC, they have one of the best defenses in the league in the second half of the season. They beat the Pats, in Foxboro, just over a month ago. I respect the heck out of what they've done. I think they had clearly the best draft in football, and that's why they're where they are. Now, I don't think they'll bean NE> Why? This is playoff football. I think BB knew he's see this team again when they played last time. Their schedule shaped up in favor of a spot and they were playing well enough to do it. I think he's got a scheme to beat them. Do I think it will be easy? No way. I think will be a long rivalry. Pats 31-18.I'm on that nine point spread like white on rice..... but I'm not predicting a Jets win by any stretch. I think they will make a game of it. The Jets have defied the odds and pundits all year. Might as well keep it going. I mean even Miami was giving two points 2 weeks ago. I know, I know.... the Jets have no defense, and can't stop the run. That's why they have given up 102 points against over the last 8 games. That's less than 13 points a game, including a no show againast Buffalo where they gave up 31. Yep, the Jets have no chance here.....![]()

This is saying a whole lot of nothing. So Belichick has "a game plan in his mind on how to beat the Jets", but Mangini doesn't have one of his own? Or is it that because he went out of his way to formulate a plan that the Jets no have no hope?Belichick must be HAPPY that the Pats lost to the Jets during the regular season - he has his motivational tool. The Patriots players will refuse to let a repeat of that happen, and BB already has a game plan in his mind on how to win this game. If anything, the Patriots should beat up the Jets for a good 4 quarters, but we could see a repeat of the Titans game where the Patriots put up some points, the Jets make some big plays to bring the game close, BB talks to his guys at halftime, and they come out and a play a flawless second half.
As a Charger fan I'd love to see the Jets win this one - we owe you guys from 2004.Do you think ball control will put up enough points for the Jets to win this thing?you just might see this one go New York's way.
I agree it should be a good game. That said there are usually more then just one upset on wild card weekend. Last year the home teams went 1-3. The year before, 1-3.This is saying a whole lot of nothing. New England is sweating this game- you'd better believe it. Three of the four regular season games they lost were at home. They are far from invincible there. Aside from the Houston game, every other home game they won was by 7 points or less. The Patriots best bet is going to be to run it early and often. Harrison being out is a definite advantage for the Jets.
The best thing the Jets have going for them is that Mangini has the playoff experience from being with New England, and that he knows a lot of the things that Belichick will try to do. They also have been playing great ball control in the last three weeks. The Jets are a team that are peaking at exactly the time you want to be peaking.
This isn't your big brother's Jets team that folds like a lawnchair when they get behind. This team has a whole new identity. I am sure it's crossed Belichick's mind that he would have to listen to it all offseason if he loses to his protege in the playoffs. So I anticipate a good game, and yes, I give the advantage to New England. But I think this might be the best game of the four scheduled this weekend. And someone always gets upset on wildcard weekend. Everyone's sexy pick right now is KC over Indy, but you just might see this one go New York's way.
This is such a glib answer. I'm not buying it. If you can point out a good reason why they would win by that spread, I would like to hear it. The fact that the Patriots have won three Super Bowls isn't going to put a single point on the board for them this year. But saying "they're different in the playoffs" is not really an answer at all IMO.If there was one single team that Belichick wanted to throttle this year (and every year) it's the Jets. He didn't need any special motivation, yet he still got beat at home by the Jets. And the Jets were pretty much in command of the game from start to finish. Then, when they beat the Jets at Giants Stadium, they nearly let them tie the game in the fourth quarter. Two touchdowns is a ridiculous spread. The Patriots are not the team that won their three SB's, and the Jets are arguably a better team than they were even eight weeks ago when they beat New England.Beating Brady, Belichick and the Patroits in the regular season and doing it in the playoffs is like night and day. Patriots by 2 TD's or more.
