why do people stand in line for chipotle (1 Viewer)

Chipotle uses higher quality ingredients than the greasy authentic Mexican joints. Nothing wrong with greasy authentic Mexican joints, I just sometimes prefer to eat a little cleaner. It's nice to have healthier fast food options nowadays like Panera and Chipotle.
Healthier :lmao:

Read the caloric and fat intake of your burrito.
There's more to nutrition than calories. Chipotle uses unprocessed meats and fresh vegetables. It's a much better lunchtime option than most.

I live in a town with both Chipotle and a Mexican place so authentic the waiters can barely get out "Can I take your order?"

Point is, they both have very distinctive flavors. One night I may crave one, another night I'll crave the other.
 change town to city and same here.

The one Chipotle I've been to has really friendly staff (like giving me free guac due to not having quite enough $ kind of friendly...)

Too damned salty. Can only handle the chicken. Went to a Chipotle once when they were out of chicken. All other options are inedible.

There is always a line because they ask you a lot of questions. I went there just wanting a burrito and once I paid I felt like I had just played jeopardy. Just put whatever you're supposed to put on it and the line would move fast. I prefer other options.
Do tell.
Do you want this or that? This or that? Do you want that? What kind of this? This? Did you also want this? How about that? That costs extra, do you want it? Some of this? How about I say chicken burrito and you just do your magic?
 That is EXACTLY how it is on Jeopardy.
This is something that you would want in your Burirto Bowl

What is pico de gallo?

My only complaint with chipotle is they are very stingy with their salsa, they put it in one of those micro plastic containers and want to charge you for each one. And not really sure if this is a complaint, but whenever I eat a burrito I am searching for the "I sharted" thread within the hour.

2011 it was Olive Garden.

2014 its Chipotle.

What's next? You dorks are going to tell me that Outback is terrible too?

I love Chipotle, but I'm fairly certain it is about as unhealthy as a lunch option gets. A chicken burrito with white rice, beans, salsa, cheese, guacamole, & corn has (keep in mind these numbers corporations issue are always on the frugal side too):

1300 calories

60 grams of fat

20 grams saturated fat

3015 mg sodium

200 mg cholesterol

140g of carbs

This is kindof a silly argument. Where in the hell are you going to get a HEALTHY burrito? I guarantee the burrito at the authentic mexican place down the street has more calories than the Chipotle version.

I'm going to step out on a limb here, but I'm betting when people say Chipotle is healthier than most other lunch options, they mean it is easier to make your meal healthy-- cut out the tortilla (get a burrito bowl), get half a serving of rice, double up on meat, etc. That's what I do. My standard order at Chipotle is a burrito bowl (no tortilla) with half a scoop of rice, brown beans, and double meat. Pretty dang healthy.

Keep telling yourself that... Check the sodium content in their basic stuff.BTW, you don't get cheese, sour cream, guacamole, salsa? Chic/rice/beans (just those 3 ingredients) sounds mighty boring. Take a look at what gauc does to their bowls - It isn't as healthy as you think and there are TONS of options that are far more healthier.

Everyone eats Chipotle bc it tastes good, not bc it is healthy. If you are going there on a regular basis as part of a "diet" then you are dieting wrong. If you go there bc you think it is healthy, there are tons of better health options.

Nothing wrong with cheese or sour cream. Their servings are about 100 calories each. Walking out the door eating 800-1000 calories (depending if you get single or double meat). I eat 2,300 calories per day. So that's not even half.

Some people have different preferences than you. Don't get all worked up about it.
not really. there are some things out there that are objectively worse than their alternatives. take subway sandwiches for example. you're never going to convince anyone that a subway sandwich is better than a sandwich at a real deli, yet lo and behold right across the street from where i work, there's a subway next door to an an awesome italian deli which btw is also cheaper, and guess which one has the longer line. people in general are stupid, plain and simple.
People generally buy what they know. And what they know is that Chipotle tastes good.

The problem with authentic mexican restaurants is that there is nothing to distinguish one from the other.

Hell...there is a taqueria in my small rural town and 999 times out of 1000 I'll choose to swing through Taco Bell instead. Even though I know their food is delicious and their margaritas make my wife's clothes fall off.

Chipotle is healthy, you win.
Never said that. I said it CAN be healthy if you order right. But I see you're having a hard time with this so I'll just stop.
Trying to lose some body fat, heading down to Chipotle for lunch and dinner  That cheese, sour cream, & sodium bomb will send me on the right path.
Your diet would be improved if you learned to say "no, thanks".
You just said you get cheese and sour cream a few posts ago

BTW, this is your argument used for other places:

"McDonalds COULD be healthy

Wendy's COULD be healthy

Just what you make of it."

Sure I can go into Mcdonalds and get a salad, but I'd venture to say that 99% (prob more) of the fat ####s that walk through those doors don't. The same way that just about everyone walking into Chipotle is ordering up a sodium laced fat/calorie bomb.

It's ####### delicious, but can we stop the healthy charade?

Chipotle is high-quality. Subway not so much.
Right. They're at exact opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of food quality. Subway uses crappy factory-farmed meat, highly processed and loaded with fillers.

Chipotle buys high-quality meat, often raised on pasture. It's one of the very few chain restaurants, at any price level, that doesn't use crappy meat.
THIS.

Which is why this entire thread is either a poor fishing trip or a fantastic example of ignorance.

What's so fatty about chicken beans and rice?

Are you referring to gaucamole? Yeah, super unhealthy.

It's ok to say no to the cheese and sour cream, friend. You will survive.

Nobody goes to McDonald's for those reasons.

Plenty of people go to Chipotle because you CAN get a healthiER, and LESS processed option that still comes out fast and inexpensive enough that Joe and Julie Lunchpail can grab it for lunch on a workday when they weren't up to packing sprouts and seaweed salad that morning.

The added bonus for me is that if I show up in person and clamor for extra beef or chicken, I also get a good meal or two for my dog, who is waiting like a champ out in the car.

I know this.

Does he? Probably not. But it has the highest content of "fat" other than sour cream or cheese.

by the way, unless you are lactose intolerant or have a bad reaction to dairy, there is nothing wrong with a little cheese and sour cream. HTH.

When I go, it's always out of convenience. I have taquerias around my house that I get instead. But the backlash is stupid. Chipotle is fine and you can eat a somewhat healthy, filling meal at less than 600 calories.

I just think to myself, "There goes a guy who is really committed to super efficiency in his life, and probably has places to be. " (Yes, I actually think the thumbup). Then I go back to talking to the person in line next to me and go about seeing what looks freshest and most delicious on that day, so I can politely request that they heap mounds of it into my tortilla. Then I try to decide whether to sit down at the local watering hole right after lunch, or wait an hour so I can go walk by the river with the dog.

This old timer ain't in any hurry. You go right to the front, there, Charlie Fox.

The fact that you keep bringing up guacamole just underscores your failure to get it.

I personally don't go out of my way to eat healthy there. My typical burrito: white rice, no beans, chicken, corn, cheese, lettuce. That's probably not recommended for someone on a diet, but for someone in good shape, that's a reasonable lunch. My friend, who's also in good shape but who has to work at it, typically gets a burrito bowl with grilled veggies, chicken, brown rice, hot salsa and lettuce.

McDonald's is horrible. Just the smell of the place make me want to retch.

I was going to go to Moe's for lunch today (they are always so excited to see me when I walk in the door), but the OP convinced me to drive to Meixco instead. I hope I can make it back in time for my 1pm status call.

Worth it to avoid the legions of Brooks Brothers picketers, with their "Say No to Inauthentic Cuisine!" and "Guacamole Kills!" signage.

I did a 5k last summer and they handed out Moes at the end. It was a mini burrito, veggie chips , an apple and a bottled water.

I've never even seen a Moes but I'd love to try them again.

Fair enough, but we prob have different views of defining good shape... My goal is a lot of lean muscle and BF% under 10.

If someone goes for a bowl with just double chicken, tomatoes, and guac they have taken in 2/3 of their sodium content in that one sitting. Personally with my goals and family history of slightly elevated blood pressure, wouldn't define that as healthy. Throw in a few other things and I feel it starts getting ugly. Just my opinion to align with my goals of being fit, muscular, and a 6 pack - to each his own.
