why do people stand in line for chipotle (1 Viewer)

I ate Qdoba for lunch today.

They totally changed up their menu setup. Now all of the their core items (burritos, salads, gumbo, etc.) are a set price which is determined by the type of meat you use. However, there is no extra charge for the add ons. Basically anything but double meat is free. I go the gumbo today with fajita veggies and queso diablo. Freaking amazing. My only real issue is that the shredded beef is now in the higher cost bucket. I will probably end up going chicken more often now.

good marketing always has and always will trump quality
i dont think its good marketing. i think its because most people are just too stupid to take more than 5 seconds to realize that there's more to eat for lunch than the place with the flashing neon lights and plastic food. these are the same people who buy reeboks instead of nike's and drive pontiacs. who actually wakes up one morning and says 'hey! i'm gonna go buy a pontiac car today!"
Wait...you're using Nike as an example of a "better product" that is outsold by another because people are stupid? Nike? The king of "buy our crap because somebody famous has their name on it"? New Scoresman credibility rating = 0.
you dont understand. Nikes are great products, better than reeboks or british knights or whatever other crappy shoe companies there are. sometimes i think people avoid certain companies because famous people endorse them, but in this case its dumb because nike really does make superior stuff. also with the pontiac reference, i was referring to buying new pontiacs. the classic ones are  . But there's nothing that should lead a normal person to ever want to buy a new pontiac. I mean look at things like consumer reports or other publications that rate products. there are always a few that consistently sit at the bottom of the ratings yet there are seemingly enough stupid and lazy people out there to keep these companies in business.

Screw Chipotle. When I'm craving some real Mexican food I head down to the nearest construction site around noon, pull up a mud bucket, sit down and have whatever the masses of illegals are having in the crock pot for lunch.

I think their chicken is better anyway but the cool thing is free Guac. That queso diablo sauce is incredible.

Gumbo?

I've been gone a long time, so forgive the question but is this guy the new Smoo alias or something? Because holy ####, the butthurt.

Chipotle is high-quality. Subway not so much.
Right. They're at exact opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of food quality. Subway uses crappy factory-farmed meat, highly processed and loaded with fillers.

Chipotle buys high-quality meat, often raised on pasture. It's one of the very few chain restaurants, at any price level, that doesn't use crappy meat.
This is true, but a Chipotle chicken burrito also costs 60% more than a Subway $5 foot long, at least here in NYC. If you add guac, it is over 100% more. With tax in NYC, it costs exactly $23 at Chipotle for two chicken burritos with guac. But there are still long lines there, so people must not care that it's double the price of Subway and triple the price of McDonalds. Clearly quality trumps value for the average Chipotle customer.

So the OP is upset that a place he fancies doesn't have longer lines? Yeah, everyone else is stupid.
not really angry. just don't understand some people.

haven't you ever been in a situation that makes you want to shake your head and grin to yourself as you pass by the mindless sheep assuming their roles as good, unquestioning consumers?
Yes every time I read one of your posts I shake my head.

Had Qboda for the first time last week. Chipotle > Moe's > Qboda
Then you're doing it wrong. Shredded beef Queso Diablo burrito with grilled veggies is one of my favorite foods ever.

I pass by Chipolte regularly and have never loved anything there as much as Qdoba's shredded beef burrito.

No hate here but I just don't like this place ...especially for the price. I understand why people like it, it's just not my fav. If I want mex stuff I'll just go to one of many good mex places around and pay a lot less or at least the same for better stuff.

I went there in Austin in the relatively early days with great anticipation. I ended up with a giant ball of flour tortilla and a ton of rice ... for like $8. meh

They load it up with salt, that's why. Americans are addicted to salt. Discovered this a few years ago when I had to go on a no salt diet. The food was tasteless.

That's hardly a knock against chipotle. Salt is a flavor enhancer. Removing it from any recipe will make for a really bland meal.

one of the more underrated posts in the history of this board. NEON LIGHTS! PLASTIC FOOD! PONTIACS!!!!

edit: underrated in the sense of unintentional comedy.

this guy knows stuff. :goodposting:

This place is very good, and even better for those who have a gluten intolerance/celiac (not me). If I had to choose between this and authentic Mexican, however, it would not make the cut. But that's not a fair comparison, IMO.

I picked up Chipotle for the family yesterday, but I really wanted Falafal. Fed a family of 7 for $22.
one taco per person?
We got two Bowls and shared them between 4 people and two kids meals tacos (w chips and drinks) shared by 3 kids.
Are you hobbits?
Also no guacamole included in that price. The price for guac at chipotle is a little excessive but for me is a necessity.

A friend of mine was excited when one opened in our market. So he took me.

I was underwhelmed and haven't been back. Plenty of quality local, non - chain options that are better.

Chipotle is basically good in a pinch. If you have a hankerin' and they're the only game in town, bring it on. If I'm home, it's not happening. Way too many great, cheap taquerias around.

It comes with the veggie meals

Then update my statement with "no guac and meat" included in that price.
