why do people stand in line for chipotle (1 Viewer)

So I went to chipoltle for lunch today. Ordered up a Half carnitas half barbacoa bowl. Rice was tasteless, there was only chunks of fat in the barbacoa and it came too 9.52. I think after years of loving this place, I am out. Too many other good place to eat for 10.00 at lunch theses days. It was a good run.
100% correct.I feel sad for people that think chipotle is quality Mexican food.

good marketing always has and always will trump quality
i dont think its good marketing. i think its because most people are just too stupid to take more than 5 seconds to realize that there's more to eat for lunch than the place with the flashing neon lights and plastic food. these are the same people who buy reeboks instead of nike's and drive pontiacs. who actually wakes up one morning and says 'hey! i'm gonna go buy a pontiac car today!"
still :lmao: :lmao: at this

In the times I have gone I have never had this happen and never have seen it happen. They put the tortilla down and just pile on the ingredients in the middle. I have seen people ask to have the ingredients stirred up before wrapping and to me that is one of the strangest things ever. On par with asking the chef to cut your steak into small pieces before they bring it out to you. Chipotle should have blenders on site for guys like the one in this article. Put everything into the blender and then turn it into a soft warm paste they can then pour on the tortilla. That way all the different ingredients become one boring taste and guys like him can go complain about something else.
I don't agree with the rank of the link, but I disagree that stirring it up creates one boring taste. The flavor enjoyment of a burrito is the blending of all the different tastes and textures together, not biting them each individually. That's why I've gone to the burrito bol exclusively so I can mix it all and each bite has meat, beans, guac and salsa all scrumptiously mixed together.
Never in my life have I had a burrito where every bite i took comprised of only individual ingredients. Some bites have more of one than others but the guy in this article is being way overly dramatic. The beauty of a burrito is that each bite is different, not each bite being a uniform mix of the 9 things you have in it. The man who wrote the rant simply does not like burritos.
Yes, I love those bites that are 90% sour cream and 10% cheese.

Stirring is the correct way to order a Chipotle burrito.

Granted, most Mexican food is crap anyway
If somebody killed you over this comment I wouldn't feel even a little bit bad for snickering.
Me either!
I like good mexican food. I was incredibly disappointed when I finally went to Chipotle (quite a few years ago). Giant wad of beans and rice for $8+. Why eat there if there are real and good mexican places around?

I am not prudish about my food btw either.

you can't judge Chipotle vs authentic mexican restaurants.

Chipotle is basically fast food, and it should be judged vs other fast food places. They are A+ vs those type of establishments. Their chicken burrito is money.

I don't think most Mexicans would recognize Chipotle as Mexican food.

Yeah, hand a Mexican a burrito or a taco and he'll be like "what the hell is this?" They actually eat mostly spaghetti there.

Not sure why people have such a hard time understanding this.

Can't the same be said for local deli's vs Subway? Local bar and grills vs McDonalds and Wendys?

of course.

do people actually compare McDonalds to a real, handmade hamburger?

If people are comparing Chipotle to authentic Mexican food then I would say yes.

I got sick at one of their restaurants a few months ago and refuse to ever eat there again. Some of the allegations were that equipment was connected directly to the sewer. What the heck is that????

Never again.

I love what they've done with the place. I can now get the same great burrito without the wait.

I handful of people get sick way across the country and now they're a month or two from going under. Pretty crazy.

Freebirds FTW, glad I live where I do, Have a Chipotle and Freebirds withing a mile of each other and Freebirds always is jammin' with people. Way better food. No it is not real Mexican but for Tex Mex it is the jam!!

Chipotle is a lot better than Taco Bell their competitor.

That said I haven't even attempted to eat there since they had the outbreak of sick folks. Before that I was eating there once a month?

College kids in a lot of towns literally live off this place. They know a way to trick the system and get burritos twice the size, enough for two meals.

Chipotle and Taco Bell are not competitors.

BREAKING: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says E. coli outbreak at Chipotle restaurants appears to be over.

— The Associated Press (@AP) February 1, 2016
So in other words "We, the experts at the CDC, have no f****** idea what caused the outbreak. But we haven't had any more cases in the last month....yipee!"

I drove by a Chipotle near me on Saturday evening at around 5pm. There were about four people in line and just a handful at tables throughout the restaurant. This place was routinely having lines out the door, even in January (Minnesota).

Yeah, it been that way since the outbreak at the one I drive by pretty often. They were always lined up to the door when I went by, no matter the time of the day.

Same here. The place has been dead for some time. Not a single person in line the last time I was there during a typically busy time. Only one other customer in the restaurant. They had cut staff as well.

Qdoba would be Chipotle's competitor.

Is the subject line actually "why do people stand in line for Chipolte's bathroom" and just got cut off due to text limitations?

Is it safe to eat here now?

I had passed one daily for almost a year and planned to try it until i heard about the outbreak.

I've eaten Chipotle three times in the past month, probably the best quick service food in the country for the price. I don't mind standing in line for it either because the line is always 75% chicks ages 17 (AoC in TX) to 25, and half of them are usually wearing yoga pants.

There are probably 100 mom and pop Mexican restaurants within 10 miles of Chipotle but I'll go there every time if I just want a quick, relatively healthy, filling burrito.

Because I can get better quality, and bigger portions faster and cheaper at a taqueria.

In Vegas and ate it the last two nights. Its been probably 2-3 months since I had it. It is amazing.

To answer the title of this thread I think Chipotle filled a lot of needs for the Gen X and younger crowd but also reached into the Seniors community as well. You stand in line for a couple minutes but then you get a hot food handed to you at the end and instantly eat time. And the generations from the 70s and 80s onward seem to like tacos as much or more than the classic American burger. Plus at Chipotle there is an impression that the food was a higher quality and there were some fresh options for toppings and the whole thing feels a lot less McDonald's and a lot more Whole Foods like so people flocked.

I think Chipotle has re-written the playbook for a successful chain in this country. I would ask what other types of food can be served same style as Chipotle. People enjoy watching their food being made which also gives them piece of mind nothing was tinkered with. Despite the recent issues with Chipotle I believe they will make a rebound. How many people get sick at McD's and never really report it, just chalk it up to cheap disgusting food. The chain is at least making an effort to get past this issue, I have nothing but appreciation for what thye had been trying to do up until now. For about the price of most other fast food joints they were trying to create a somewhat healthier place for people to spend their hard earned money.

One of Chipotle's bowls, easy on the rice and make it brown, beans, 86 the cheese or go lite, 86 the sour cream, load up on the lettuce, stick to the chicken, you have a pretty good option that isn't going to torpedo your daily diet habits much.

There's a relatively new place downtown Chicago called Naansense that's basically an Indian version of Chipotle and it's easily my best fast food meal I can remember. You basically get your lunch either wrapped in naan or over a bowl of rice (much like burrito v. bowl). Also hits a similar note many Chipotle lovers dig in that it's a good destination for vegetarians.

That sounds good. My larger point and I think you show it thru your post...take the Chipotle model for assembly line and you are more likely to succeed. We have a friend trying to open a new restaurant and I was shown the plans. I perked up and asked about things that are relevant to the younger folks as this guy is well into his early 50s and the model for a fish place seemed kind of outdated and I thought would be hard to make work. He hadn't thought of some of those things and I encouraged him to go to Chipotle during a busy time and see what they are doing to get so many folks thru the door, try to incorporate some of that. He didn't even think to put in Wi-Fi which seems almost required now.

I agree, it is nice to see the ingredients that go into your food.

You can see them grilling the chicken/fajita veggies in the back. You see them adding the cilantro/lime to the rice and mixing it up.

Everything is prepared there, same day (or relatively recently) and aside from the high sodium content, if you get a bowl without cheese or sour cream you're talking under 800 calories for lunch, and it's absolutely healthier than almost any alternative "fast food".

The whole cause was either sabotage or some filthy 3rd worlder who simply hasn't been taught to wash his hands after he uses the restroom.

They should hire someone to stand watch at the bathroom. Would have saved them millions.

Never heard of Taqueria, but I find this hard to believe.
