Why does the NFL even test for Weed? (1 Viewer)

J Gordon broke the rules multiple times=multiple punishments. R Rice-as far as
we know got caught once- and is still out of the league. I only watch the games
but as far as I know I haven't heard a single player complain about these rules.

J Gordon, M Bryant, J Manziel, J Blackmon, and L Bell got punished and did
they complain about the punishment? The fans are complaining but the players
have had multiple opportunities to remove these rules from the CBA and as far as
we know have NEVER made this an issue.

I'll say it again-I think the majority of players WANT this in the CBA. They can smoke
weed from May to January, stop until mid April to get completely clean, test clean and
then go back to casual smoking. The knuckleheads do not stop and get busted.

mary jane is an excellent pain killer and a medicine in many cases. i have seen people with epilepsy who have not had normal lives and have multiple seizures daily go through weeks of a normal life before having a seizure. i do not need science to see results with my own eyes. my final grade is that marijuana is a great thing and not a bad thing in any way. just like anything it can be abused, but used correctly or for recreational, it is a miracle for many.

First, It has only affected a VERY small % of players. Second, To get this out of
the CBA the players would have to give up something else-not sure what that is-
but the trade off would not be worth it as it would probably affect EVERY player.

I disagree. Read the article i posted above. It affects most players.

I guess I didn't make that post clear enough. The small % of players are the ones who
got caught. AGAIN, NFL players ARE smoking weed. 99.9% know when to stop.

This rule looks good for the NFL owners. Most of them are old and not tolerant of pot.

What is fubar'd about the system though is that once you're caught once - for being careless or whatever - you are then in the program where you're tested 10 x/ month.  So once you're caught you are basically screwed.  There can be hundreds of players smoking a lot more weed than Gordon. It's inherently a very unfair system.

We're still talking about this? It's pretty clear the league doesn't think the players need to use weed as a painkiller, seeing how none of them are getting concussions.

Wrong, The first three times are not made public. Fourth time is the 4 game suspension,
then the year suspension, then indefinitely. The testing steps up with each infraction.
it's not 10x a month for the first time.

The posting of "It's an IQ test" should have been the end of this thread.

Players get coached on how to talk to the media. They have game day rules
on what to wear and how to wear their uniform. Future players at the combine
are coached by agents on what to say during the interview process. The drug policy
is just a small part of what they go through to play. The list of banned substances
and substances taken in combination with each other to get a "false" positive
would make our heads spin.

April 20, 4/20, is the first day on which the NFL can implement annual drug tests under the substance-abuse policy.

This has relevance to players not in the substance-abuse program, who are subject to testing at any time. For players not in the program, this is it; one test, implemented at some point between April 20 and early August.

Once that sample is provided (and assuming it’s clean), the player is free to smoke marijuana or use other street drugs, as long as he doesn’t get arrested for a drug-related offense...

The process allows for players to smoke marijuana, as long as they stop in the middle of March or thereabouts and then refrain from it until after providing the sample. Which makes it very easy to have it both ways, smoking for most of the year and never getting busted.

I'm pretty sure that in the not so distant future weed won't be tested by the NFL because it will be legal in most states.  It will be treated just like booze.
