Why is everyone suddenly so down on the Colts? (1 Viewer)

It's always amazing to me how quickly people turn. The Colts have lost two games, both of which they could have won easily, and they have lost Freeney, which will hurt them. But suddenly they have dropped from #1a or #2 to towards the bottom of the "big five" (NE, Indy, Pitt, Dallas, Green Bay) in many experts' power polls. Now, I hear on the NFL network and ESPN that Indy will lose the bye to Pittsburgh, and might have trouble winning their division. Please...

I am a Steeler fan, and would like nothing better than for Pittsburgh to get the bye. But sorry, the truth is the truth, and in this case the truth is that Indy even without Freeney is a better team than Pittsburgh. Indy with Harrison back may be a better team than NE, it's very close. The Colts will still in all likelihood be in the AFC Championship game, and they still have the best shot of knocking off New England. Perhaps after they beat the crap out of Kansas City this week the so-called "experts" will return to giving them the respect they deserve, perhaps not. But we're still talking about one of the two dominant teams in the league here...

This team will be in the playoffs so the injuries and consequently the loss to SD didn't really diminish them in my eyes. I think a healthy Indy is the best team in the league, BUT losing Freeney for the season is going to be hard. They may be #2, but I think they are a lot closer to the reset of the pack now.

There is probably an entire tier between the Pats and Colts. I would say they're not close to being the best team.
I don't know, without Marvin Harrison they had a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter. That game could have gone either way. Who's to say Indy's not the best team, and won't prove it in the playoffs?

Because they haven't shown anything for that yet? How do we know that STL won't win out for the rest of the season and win the NFC West?Re Marvin: Indy had two close calls WITH Harrison weeks 2 and 3. Did Manning also throw 6 INTs because Harrison was out last week too?Re 10 pt lead in 4th quarter: They played a good first half against the Patriots, that's about it. What about the second half? They simply fell apart:
In the first half, the Patriots gained 114 total yards to the Colts' 229; in the second half, the Patriots outgained the Colts 228-100.
Great teams will not let this happen.Keep in mind this game was also in IND.Future? Now Freeney is out for the season. Next time around will assuredly be in NE. Sorry d00d. It's not that close.

So are you saying NE is not a great team either since they basically bombed the first half??229-114 is eerily similar to 228-100 :homer:

NE started slow and made great adjustments whereas IND stayed the course and then fell apart. I think there is a big difference there.IND continued to fall apart in their next game too. I think a team better than NE would rebound.

Youve gotta be a 'Niners fan. Because Steelers' fans are the most loyal and proud Ive ever seen. And you sir are far from it.

hate to say it, but that indy defense is not going to be the same without freeney

the reason why indy was successful against NE is because they were able to pressure brady. not going to happen without freeney.

they are still a top-5 team, and very well could be #2. but i wouldnt say they are definitively better than dallas or green bay

i think pittsburgh is overrated too.

This makes no sense. I root for the Steelers in every game they play. Am I supposed to prove my loyalty by proclaiming they are better than Indy and NE, when I don't think they are? Is that your definition of a "loyal" fan? When they play those teams, I will hope with all my heart for the upset. Because if Pittsburgh wins, that is what it will be...

I'm pretty sure if Indy and Pittsburgh were to play in a few weeks in Pitt, the Steelers would be favored. Just saying...

They've lost 2 in a row, they lost their best defensive player basically after that fact and nobody really knows if their 2nd best offensive player viewed by most preseason is going to really be healthy.

That is why.

hey man. sell me as hard as you want. I know alot of Steelers fan. and every single one of them would give any of the others the beatdown of a lifetime if they thought the way you did. Your declaration that the Steelers have no shot of beating Indy? Are you kidding me? No, really. Again. Are you kidding me? Dont pass your goofy opinions off as 'truths'. But if you really feel that way, and you actually are a Steelers fan, you might just wanna keep those thoughts to yourself. Nothing wrong with opinion. Im just not buyin'. By the way, I hear Trent Dilfer's getting the nod this week. You must be stoked.

Please, my uncle is a 49er fan and also a old hippie, don't put me with him, nooo!!When did I ever say the Steelers had "no shot" of beating Indy? they have a great shot, especially if they''re at home. But I son't think they're a better team than Indy. apparently, that's heresy? If you think so, take a look at the Steelers website on Scout.com. One of the recent threads there is titled, "New England will Crush Us." There's at least 100 posts, and most of them agree with the heading. So are all of these guys 49er's fans?

While twitch may be being a little harsh, I've got to agree him. NO Steelers fan I know, and a couple are close friends, would ever say "Indy even without Freeney is a better team than Pittsburgh". Take a lesson from Braylon Edwards, who predicted his Michigan team would beat Ohio State straightup this weekend. Man up and waive the towel.

I have no interest in drifting off to a Steelers site at the moment because Im not a fan of that team, and the Patriots arent playing the Steelers this Sunday. So, in a couple of weeks, Ill hang with some Steelers boarders and hear what they have to say. But you need to tone down your Colts love and your Patriots love, and turn up the Niners love. Because loyalty to our football teams is all we have in this world.

If they can get Clark and Gonzo back on the field they will be fine. Harrison will play in the playoffs. I dont think he will play till then. He came back too early after missing a few games and got hurt again. They will take their time

The Steelers are at least as good as they were in 2005 and probably better. I don't think it is a given at all that Indy, with or without Freeney, are a better team than the Steelers. If they meet each other in the playoffs we'll find out, otherwise it doesn't matter what you or I think...

ahahahahahahaha.....!!!!!!!yeah, and san diego was better than the pats, and dallas was beating the pats for 30 seconds, and the pats couldn't handle that badass 'skins defense.fyi --- harrison doesn't play d, and isn't on the offensive line.I hope to christ he's back for the afc championship game, so we can put this candyland crap to rest.

Most people that understand football realize the superbowl will be when the Colts travels to see the Pats. This is almost a no brainer this year. Manning had what may have been the worst game of his career and they still were right there at the end. Dallas and Greenbay fall into the next slot and does it really matter after that?

Agree about Clark, but what has The Other Gonzo shown that he can be a dependable NFL WR? Not trying to bait you, just asking, because games I saw him in he looked no better than what Moorehead is currently giving them. :lmao:
