Why is this place a ghost town? (1 Viewer)

Was wondering that too. I wasn't sure if he wanted to discuss TV shows or just whine about not discussing TV shows.
I'm confused.  Are you asking me to hijack this thread to discuss the specific TV shows that aren't being talked about anymore?

Whine, really?  Is stating "tv shows aren't being talked about" whining loader than stating "this place is a ghost town"?  Less posters means less conversation which leads to less participation by the posters that remain.   That's a fact and answers the OP's question whether you think it's whinny or not.

So I haven't been around much lately, but looking at the posting rates plus the "Recently Browsing" count of 31, this place seems like a ghost town.

What gives?
I think you answered your own question.

I post about 5% of what I used to, and it’s pretty much zero quality content now, vs 3% then.

Overzealous liberals

Overzealous moderation

Oversensitive remaining posters.

GMs thread is the last stronghold of decent content here. I’ve moved on to other forums and reddit. Probably won’t re-up subscription next year. PFF worked great this year.
This. check your texts...

This really is it in a nutshell.

What other sites are out there that have a similar FFA forum that's not so restricted? Besides Reddit, which has already been mentioned and is always too big for me to find what I want without having to sift through a ton of bloat.

I'm just asking for the title of the dang show

This always cracks me up - a message board that is probably 95%+ white, middle-aged males (that play Fantasy Football) is somehow a bastion of liberal America.
I wouldn't exactly call this place Fox News. And since when is liberalism and middle aged white males mutually exclusive. Racist. Whitist. Agist.

The Huddle's version of the FFA never had the kind of pure "numbers" that the FFA did/does, but it went from a pretty busy place to a literal ghost town.  Political discussion did it in.

Has to be almost a week since we've had a "FFA Ain't What It Used To Be" thread, so it's definitely time for another. And it didn't take long for victimized political groups to climb out from under the PSF rock and start that crap here.

I enjoy the FFA nowadays (except when the above happens). I think shutting down stuff like the yoga-pants thread was dumb (I came around to realizing the "who's hottest" threads are problematic), but my life hasn't diminished because the owner didn't want it anymore. I feel pretty confident I can find pretty ladies in yoga gear fairly easily elsewhere.

I also agree with @AAABatteries that those who think of a message board full of affluent, gambling, game-playing, whining about not seeing women in bikinis, white males are the poster children for a liberal viewpoint are looking through broken glasses.

I never called it Fox News - I was specifically addressing the idea that we have a bunch of overzealous liberals that post here.  We've been through this - the idea that this forum is a liberal hotbed is ridiculous - based on the demographics and also if you've paid attention over the years to both the content of the forum and the many polls done on the topic.  If we didn't have DD, Jaysus, Arizona Ron and Furley there'd be no black guys to be found.  We appear to be down to a single female poster (krista).  And as for mutually exclusive - who said that?  I'm basing this off standard voting patterns.

And I should have added that the moderation comment by icon was correct - I'm still on the fence on whether I like the new moderation rules but I think it's undeniably a bad thing if you are strictly looking at the traffic to the forums and the amount of activity.

Here's the problem. There is no true FFA. There is the PG FFA where people hit the report button any chance they get. This place needs a true FFA where you go to blow off steam and say anything you want without repercussions (report button that doesn't even work in the true FFA). Had that been instituted a decade ago, you would still see this place hopping with thousands of members online. Record is 15114, 12 years ago. Today...231 as of right now.

There should be a rule where you hit the report button too many times, you are banned. That would be great and would weed out the losers.

We don’t all want to be on the purse forum.
I didn't mean that and probably worded it wrong. But I don't think this is the most female-friendly board on the internet, just because of the way some are here. I wish we had a more diverse group.

It's really too bad that this thread was not posted in the politacrap forum.

Be the change you'd like to see. If you'd like to discuss TV shows, do that. Those can be great topics.

The most active forums have some sort of common hobby/purpose.  The one time we did the "forum field trip" thread (Now RIP) there was a list of the most popular forums. One of them at the time opened my eyes to a side of humanity I never could really un-see.  (my first exposure to ahem....dragons)

Most forums I'm on are dying slowly. Kids are fine with their instagram/facebook feeds and don't venture out much.

Reddit is 90% of my forum time now when NFL is in offseason for me, which is late this year.

@CurlyNight, @simey, and @Mrs R. all post pretty regularly, though I sometimes wonder why.
I mostly keep tabs on people here who are struggling whether mentally or physically and like to offer any help or just support. The only other forum I'm active on is a cancer forum where I keep learning, have made some friends, and also help newbies who are where I was 3.5 years ago: dazed and overwhelmed about to embark on surgeries and treatments all by myself.

Fft geek club if you like sissy slap fights and tons of politics bashing.

I never felt the board was unfriendly toward women. I found so many threads so interesting and gave insight into the male world when women aren’t around. The male cheerleader thread, all of the stories by that guy who wrote the Claude/drawers in the ceiling thread, the hug life chronicles are some great stuff. I don’t think they would tell those stories necessarily if we were sitting at a table together so I like that, fly on the wall perspective. I care a great deal about the folks who have walked through some of life’s worst trials on these pages. The ffa is like a hometown for me on the internet. The first foray I had in message boards, 16 years ago (eunuch maker days). So I still read everyday. I don’t often post or vote in polls. Thanks joe!

We're very diverse in the FFA.

Men, Women, blacks, whites, rich, poor and even the newly transgenderd @Ned

You can't deflect the blame onto me. Being the change I'd like to see gets me time outs and won't bring back the people that were chased off.

Specifically for tv shows I'd be talking to myself. I bumped the best show on tv that doesn't take a holiday break a week back because no one has posted this season. Arguably the best season of the series. Three people responded and it died.  GOT was the only show on the first two pages that I checked. Ghost town.

You must have some numbers that show active posters over time. Those would be interesting to see.

Am I the only one that thinks this board is okay and keeps continuing to be so? It may not be the wonder years of 2006-7, but it is pretty intelligent and humorous. A great place to stop in, frankly.

Not deflecting and not blaming anyone. I'm saying if you'd like to discuss TV shows, then post about TV shows. Some threads have more traction than others. It's tough to predict sometimes.

I at least am with you, Rock. I've said since "day one" ;)  it's definitely not for everyone. And I don't know if our way is the right way. But it's how we're going to try and do it.

I wish you wouldn't talk to me like this.

Maybe the board is just getting older..marriage, kids, life ect just got in the way and people don`t spend as much time or care.  Remember when we could not wait until Saturday mornings to hear about Otis at Friday Happy Hour in NY and what hot chick he hooked up with.  Now Oats is a dad with a wife and kids and instead of looking for chicks he is looking for advice on how to lose weight and remodel his back porch.

I wish you wouldn't talk to me like this.
Letting you down, GB? Not enough complaint? I need to catch up with hockey, which has gotten away from me. It's time for your reports from Arizona.

Seriously, I love this place. I'm always amazed at people that have a beef with the general tone and tenor of it, other than moderations and personal bannings. I have my own issues, but subjugate them for the good, utilitarian-style.

What show are you talking about?  Most of the TV talk has been consolidated to the Netflix thread by default.

Seems pretty simple - if you’re not interested in a thread, then just don’t go in. If you are, have at it, but know that how you handle yourself is directly correlated in how people react.

Has worked for me for nearly 15 years - longer when you take old yeller into account.

I miss discussion about attractive women, but otherwise, yea.

15,114 online happened at one point? Man, that’s strong.
