Why Mark Sanchez is a 1st round pick (1 Viewer)

So, I joined a work league where the first round went:

1) Brady

2) McCoy

3) R. Rice

4) Vick

5) S. Greene

6) E. Manning

7) Mendenhall

8) Nicks

9) Holmes

10) Sanchez

11) D. Williams

12) Wallace

Now, I can hear the cries of "how can I join your league" now. However, there is a league rule that you can only draft a player at the same longitude or further west of the player previously drafted. One poor guy had to take six Niners to end the draft.

Always pays to know how the league rules can change your perceived notions.

A guy in a 10 team ppr I just did took Felix at 8 then bjge at 13. Those are overall, not the round number. I would assume it's inexperience in both our leagues.

BJGE wasn't even drafted in our league. If I had known the way the first round would have played, I would have grabbed Welker over McCoy maybe.

That's just dumb. How the heck do you keep track of where all the players in the NFL are during the draft?

Couldn't he have taken Nicks or Bradshaw? Or Eli for that matter if he was desperate to get a QB?I don't understand how Sanchez isn't a bad pick there even with those rules.

I was kinda joking in the other topic (since any player drafted can always be found to the west of the player drafted previously) but I'm assuming the rules state it's within the continental US, right? Definitely a different concept - not sure of the point mind you - but it's different. We'll give you that.

"Earth is round" down?

Well, we have different rules for the Giants and Jets. We needed a way to separate them and in non-lockout years the Giants have camp at U Albany and when the league started the Jets had training camp at Hofstra. Hofstra is further east. So by taking Sanchez, the Jets and Giants are still available. Taking Manning eliminates the Jets.

I assume you have a precise list of all the teams in longitudinal order to share with us?
I do have it somewhere, can provide it if someone really cares.
Please do. It would be more interesting then half the posters around here discussing their recent trades.Sounds like an interesting twist and change of pace.Where did the first poster go with his next few selections after having free reign of the Pats.

Heading to the Georgia Dome skipped more than a dozen teams.

Also, how does the guy in the 12 spot not go Peterson-Charles and then just start having his pick of the elite western players while everyone else is fighting over east coast players?

I would have totally messed with the whole league and picked from SF in the first round. Gore as the first pick and you win the league!

I don't get why people think this. Candlestick is the last place you can go. Someone took Gore in the 15th. His last six picks were Gore, V. Davis, Crabtree, J. Morgan, Hunter, Kaepernick.

People are misinterpreting the rule as further west than the player previously drafted, instead of previously drafted by YOU (the owner of the team on the clock).

I don't get why people think this.
Because you said:
you can only draft a player at the same longitude or further west of the player previously drafted.
...which a lot of people (myself included) took to mean "the pick immediately before yours."That's why some people were wondering how the draft went from Mendenhall back to the New York.

But it is clear now that you meant "the player YOU previously drafted."

Seems like someone could easily and up with Charles, Peterson, Fitzgerald, Beanie, Kolb, VJax, Rivers, Gates, McFadden, Bush, Mathews, Lynch, Sidney Rice, Gore, Vernon, Braylon, Crabtree, Hunter, Smith, 49ers D, 49ers K. For a stud team of:

Rivers, Kolb, Smith

Peterson, Charles, Gore, McFadden, Mathews, Lynch, Beanie, M Bush, Hunter

Fitzgerald, VJax, Sidney, Braylon, Crabtree

Gates, Vernon

Because once one person makes a move west, several people follow. No one is going to let one owner traipse through the old central and west teams unopposed. It only takes one other drafter to move west to cut that team in half. We had three move to the midwest with their second picks and none of their teams are stellar.

Still don't understand how the 12th team doesn't go Peterson-Charles there. Let everyone else fight over the NY and PA players. Jump to Houston for AJ and Foster at the 3/4 turn and you've pretty much got the league wrapped up. Am I missing something?

Edit: Just missed your response. I agree we need to see rosters.

I don't have the rosters in front of me, but can add them when I get home. Because of our scoring system we can't host the league on a website, so we still do manual scoring. It's like 1995 all over again.

Let me guess there are scoring modifiers based on altitude and gameday barometric pressure. :D
