ya didnt he return from the high ankle sprain in a week or 2 and put up over 5ypc? the slow healing stuff is just bullcrap. no one knows how serious these injuries are. jennings was supposed to be back after the bye but now its looking like he may miss more games. its like, mebbe mcl injuries take awhile. His return from his high ankle sprain and broken collar bone were both on par. He's always been a slow healer.
I expect Mathews to start and get more touches than Oliver once he is back.Per Rotoworld:
According to the Union-Tribune San Diego, there is a "chance" Ryan Mathews (knee) could return for the Chargers' Week 9 game against the Dolphins.
Mathews' MCL sprain has cost him six weeks. As the Chargers have begun to lose games, they may feel more urgency to get their best early-down runner back on the field. "That's in my head," Mathews said Friday of a potential Week 9 return. "I'm just going keep doing my treatment this week, come back on Monday, and see what they (team doctors) say." Per beat writer Michael Gehlken, Mathews is "clearly close," looks conditioned, and his "right knee was stable" during a Thursday evening workout before San Diego's loss to Denver. Mathews should be stashed in all fantasy leagues. Oct 24 - 9:10 PM
Anyone think he'll reclaim the starting role? Does Oliver just play 3rd downs or do they rotate drives?
Disagree with this -- he looked good before the injury, SD clearly needs the threat of a running game as part of their successful winning gameplan, and he's the kind of back with potential RB1 upside. He was on waivers, and happy to pick him up and burn a spot on someone with that kind of talent, opportunity, and proven ability for the flex spot during last quarter of the season and into the playoffs.flapgreen said:He's a waste of a spot.
congrats? He did? I didn't see it. People picked this guy up weeks ago to sit him on the bench most of the season hoping he could return at a flex spot. Just not worth it to me. I dropped him the week he went down and haven't looked back.

Seriously, I love how people think everyones situation is the same as theirs. I have no clue how deep flapgreens rosters are, what RBs are on his team, or who is available in his league. All I know is I traded friggin SJax for him when he got hurt and Ive been stashing him ever since. Hes one of the RBs on my team I will play matchups with when he comes back. I have a hodgepodge of RBs (Ingram, Tate, Mathews, Sims, Ball) so I welcome his return and I am very happy I traded a worthless piece for him. So flapgreen needs to stop talking about him being a waste of a roster spot for "people". Cuz he isnt one for me. Its like he keeps trying to convince himself he made a good drop and maybe he did in his case but quit ####### implying hes worthless in everyone elses situation.shadyridr is not impressedcongrats? He did? When I traded for him Woodhead just got hurt and I had visions of last years Mathews PLUS 3rd down back. Basically an RB1. Since Oliver has emerged I am no delusional but I still think hes an RB2. Hes better than Oliver. He was a stud in the second half last year.I tend to fall on the side that he was a bad pickup after seeing the length of time and also what Oliver has been able to do. I wish I hadn't have done it but what's done is done and let's see what happens when he comes back. There's a good chance he'll never start for me.
Just an opinion. Has nothing to do with me congratulating myself. I had reservations drafting him to begin with but got excited that he fell to me so far, then got reminded of why he fell after he went down. With how time was being split between 3 guys when he was playing, and now with how Oliver has emerged and Brown possibly back, I don't see much value. And I owned him in a 16T league. It's hard to get much deeper than that. Again, it's an opinion. I think he's a wasted roster spot. Don't get your panties in a wad.Seriously, I love how people think everyones situation is the same as theirs. I think this is highly doubtful.people seem to forget mathews was a top 10 back last year and finished the fantasy season on a absolute tear... before getting hurt again for the real life playoffs. oliver has done well in is absence but mathews will no doubt be starting once he is healthy. there is potential for rb1 status if you held onto him, granted san diego offensive line is one of the worst in the league for run blocking but they are completely committed to running the ball no matter how bad they are at it, and will be feeding mathews in the red zone as opposed to forcing everything to gates like they are now with oliver carrying the load. in fantasy where people are dumping their FAB on guys like sims and tre mason, cutting ryan mathews seems like insanity not only because of the potential upside but the proven upside, he could be a 20+ touch guy when he comes back with all of the goal line work.
Doesn't mean anything but I could definitely see going after him after Woodhead going down. After Woodhead went down, I did regret it for a short while, but then Oliver came along and Mathews still hasn't healed. For a guy who's coming back after a 2 month knee injury and likely splitting time with 2 other rbs, I just don't see the potential. But if you've held him this long, there's no sense dropping him now. When I traded for him Woodhead just got hurt and I had visions of last years Mathews PLUS 3rd down back. Basically an RB1. well there ya goFor reference, you have to start at least 1 RB the league I'm in and I own McKinnon, Tate, Taliaferro and Charles. I usually start 2. 16T
Those are not bad match ups when Rivers is the qb.shady inc said:even if mathews comes back healthy, and has a role in the offense, their remaining schedule isn't that RB friendly:
Week 9: mathews OUT
week 10: BYE
week 11: vs. OAK (31st against the run) - you like this matchup
week 12: vs. STL (13th) - OK matchup, not great
week 13: @BAL (2nd) - bad matchup
week 14: vs. NE (28th) - you like
week 15: vs. DEN (8th) - bad matchup
week 16: @SF (6th) - bad matchup
so after missing a week, and then a bye, 3 bad matchups, an OK one, and 2 you like.. unfortunately, 2 of the bad ones are the semi-finals and championship week of the playoffs (if 6 teams make the playoffs) and the good week 14 matchup is when you're on a bye (if you get the 1st round bye for finishing 1st or 2nd in the league).
all in all, i'm not sure mathews has ANY value left in redraft. not that many people thought he did anyway, but whatever
I feel this is the most accurate view in this thread. Last season was a long time ago. He's no RB1, at least for the rest of this season. But as an RB3 or RB4, he has value. And he's far from a waste of a spot, as there is a chance he could be big for the rest of the season, though there's equally as good a chance he isn't. If you are 4-3, I can see why you'd have to move on, but for a team that's say, 6-2, Mathews seems like a very sensible hold, especially if he is a spot start, but not someone you're relying on for the playoffs. I'd rather have Mathews as RB depth than someone like Bobby Rainey, for example.Polish Hammer said:I don't think people are rostering him as an RB1 or 2 at this point. More likely a 3 or 4 with some upside. Those matchups you highlighted are exactly the kinds of plays where patience could pay off. You plug him in and he helps (maybe) get you into the playoffs with wins in weeks 11 and 12 and is a nice assist in the first round (week 14). I have him on two teams as RB3 or 4 for just this scenario.
this line is excessively badly right now, onto their 4th center I believe and missing a starting Guard or twoHasnt mathews always performed behind that Oline?
King Dunlap is the starting left tackle. That's all you need to know. Guy was a turn style as a backup in Philly.Cautiously optimistic, that SD Oline is so terrible. If they arent holding, the RBs are getting hit in the backfield. Pathetic play the last couple weeks.
Are we ready to fire Ryan Mathews up off the bench coming off the bye at home against the Raiders?(KFFL)San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (knee) will be ready to go once he takes the field again. Head coach Mike McCoy said he's confident Mathews will be successful when he returns from a nine-week hiatus due to a nagging knee injury.

I wish I was in your league. I'd jump all over those offers.Tried to trade an owner Martavis Bryant or desean Jackson for Mathews. No go. So somebody has some Ryan Mathews love. Guess I'll stick with mccoy
One guy in my league worshiped Oliver, but wants no part of the better RB on the same team who is about to unseat Oliver. Mathews gets no respect.I wish I was in your league. Soooo... is that this week or next? I have no doubt that when he gets on the field again, he'll be ready. Just would like to know when that is.
All I need is a few weeks now for rest of season LOL.Inserting him into the flex while I can........He'll be busted up again in a few weeks!
