Why the low ranking? (1 Viewer)

The guy has been having a good year, but he is ranked so low this week. Anyone know why?
badSSmofo,I take it you are looking at the prelim rankings? These are not set in stone and often change Wednesday/Thursday, give it a couple days when the prelim tag is removed.

I think it might be a combination of the Steelers running 3 TE sets and the fact that the Niners have held TEs in check the first two weeks of the year.

The Steelers have 3 TEs: Tuman, Miller, and Spaeth. Tuman and Miller are better blockers than Spaeth, and Spaeth is a larger target than either Tuman and Miller. As far as receiving goes: Miller>Spaeth>Tuman.

Spaeth has one more TD than Miller, however, Miller has more receptions and yardage.

Kinda hard to predict which TE will get the ball. Furthermore, I suspect defenses will fall asleep on Tuman, and he will eventually be targeted.

Miller owners migt be interested to know that rookie TE Matt Spaeth has a thigh bruise. The injury doesn't sound too serious but Tomlin said Spaeth may be limited some this week.

 Thanks for the feedback. I guess I thought Spaeth's TDs were kinda flukish. Every year some backup TE gets a couple of TDs and is then Nabbed over the waiver wire to never be heard of again. Seeing Miller ranked so low, even prelim, bothered me because the guy has talent. Ever since the Jets changed to 3-4 defense and my old STUD LB Vilma went down the tubes with the new scheme, I get worried about game plan changes by coaches. Miller is quite a talent and you don't really see coaching changes affect good players in a bad way. Can't argue with the coach though since they are 2-0 so far.

So far Spaeth really hasn't been a target outside of the red zone. Of course that is a big part of scoring in FF but Heath Miller will remain a bigger part of the offense than Spaeth.

I don't know how to check it, but I've gotta believe both ARI and STL (SF's first two opponents) have ranked in the bottom 10 in TE production in the past several years (in fact, wouldn't surprise me if ARI is dead-last...).Take it for what it's worth - SF might be good at bottling up TEs...or they might've just faced bad TEs... .

Right now I'm not sure if anybody in the Steelers passing game is worth having outside of Ben. He's really spreading the ball around a lot this year. Six different receivers in week 1, nine in week 2. Great for the Steelers, not so great for fantasy owners.

Good point. Week 1 vs. ARI TE:

4 targets, 4 receptions (3 Pope, 1 Bienemann), 28 yards, 0 TDs

Week 2 vs. STL TE:

8 targets, 3 receptions (2/6 McMicheal, 1/1 Walker, 0/1 Klopfenstein), 48 yards, 0 TD

McMicheal had receptions of 14 and 26 yards; 3 incompletes with one of pass defended, and the pass to Klopfenstein's fell short.

That's 12 targets to TEs vs. SF with 7 receptions, 4 incompletions, and one pass defended. The SF DEF could be suspect against TEs.

ETA: 0 red zone targets in TEs in both games.

Wow, based on these findings the projections look right on. I love FBG!!!!
