Wildcat: Tackle for a loss or sack? (1 Viewer)

Alright here's a question.....I have Andre Carter and Michael Vick took a direct snap (in the Wildcat) and Carter tackled him behind the line of scrimmage. Seems like this should be a sack yet NFL.com calls it a tackle for a loss. Thoughts on the Wildcat "QB" getting tackled behind the L.O.S....Is that a sack or tackle for a loss?

I would follow this as 1 of those "Stat Changes" later in the week. I would expect it to be a Sack since the player who was tackled was listed as QB and he was tackled behind LOS.

How the league Rules define it will be important.....

I could be mistaken but I believe...

If the intent of the "qb" is to pass the ball, it is a sack.

If the intent of the "qb" is to run the ball, it is a tackle for loss.

Even when it's a designed run? I agree with Spider.

Regardless of whether a team is using the Wildcat or not the above rules apply. If Peyton Manning calls a QB draw and gets tackled behind the line it's still not a sack.

This is correct.
But if the QB feels the pressure, brings the ball down, and attempts to run, it is still a sack if behind the LOS, and inside the "tackle box", correct?
Yes, such a play isn't a designed run. It wouldn't matter if the play ended inside the tackle box or outside (i.e. a rollout play).
