Will Ahman Green be the man? (1 Viewer)

Deshaun Foster, in 15 games as the primary ballcarrier, has 3 career regular season 100 yard rushing games. Two came against a 2005 Atlanta Falcons defense that ranked 32nd in the NFL against the run in terms of ypc. One came against a 2004 Kansas City defense that ranked 31st in the NFL against the run in terms of ypc.Samkon Gado, in 6 games as the primary ballcarrier, has 3 career regular season 100 yard rushing games. One came against a 2005 Falcons squad that ranked 32nd against the run in terms of ypc. One came against a 2005 Detroit squad that ranked 22nd against the run. One came against a 2005 Philly squad that ranked 10th against the run. And remember that Gado plays behind a much worse Offensive Line.I'd take Gado over Foster every day of the week, and twice on Sundays.
Here is Gado vs. Foster for there last seven games played in 2005:Foster: Averaged 20 carries a game and Rushed for 98.6 yards game (4.9 YPC)Caught 11 passes for 80 yards Scored three TD'sAveraged 110 total yards a game.GadoAveraged 20 carries a game and Rushed for 82 yards/game (4.1 YPC)Caught 10 passes for 77 yardsScored 7 TD'sAveraged 93 yards per gameOutside of TD's, Gado doesn't touch Foster.
In 6 FULL GAMES played, Gado averaged 101 total yards and a full TD per game. BTW, those 6 TD in 6 games is only 1 TD less than Foster has totaled in in his 4 year career. As for Foster, I guess he can't touch Nick Goings, as in his last 7 games of 2004 Goings averaged 129 total yards and had 6 TD.I'm not dissing on Foster (at least not here), but A LOT of players have stretches where they put up great numbers over a 6 or 7 game stretch but they DON'T average that over a 16-game season. To better illustrate this phenomenum, read THIS.

Do you want to compare Carolina's offensive line vs. Green Bay's?Or the fact that Foster has been in Carolina's system while Gado came in from out of nowhere?

Throw the stats around any way you want; I'd much rather have Foster on the Packers than Gado.I'm not trying to dis Gado, and I'd like nothing more than to see him succeed. But thinking of a RB tandom of Green/Foster excites me a hell of a lot more than Green/Gado right now.

Great stuff in this thread.

I've been leaning toward trying to pick up Green/Gado as my RB3. I'm in several keeper leagues where the talent gets thin in a hurry. From what I've read in this thread it looks like Green will be the clear #1 unless/until he gets injured and then Gado would step back in. If that's correct, I think there's great value to be had by picking up Green and then handcuffing Gado to him.

Anything I missed?

I don't disagree that Foster should be viewed a lot more highly than Gado. My point was that a lot of RB have hot stretched but don't become superstars or Top 10 RB, which some people are projecting Foster's numbers to get to a huge season off of a handful of solid games.

Flawed analysis. Let's look at the surrounding circumstances.Samkon Gado played Pitt, Atlanta, Minnesota, Philly, Chicago, Detroit, and Baltimore.Deshaun Foster played Chicago, Buffalo, Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans, Dallas, Atlanta.Eliminating the common opponents, we havePitt (6), Minny (19), Philly (7), Detroit (23), Baltimore (10)vs.Buffalo (31), Atlanta (32), Tampa (4), New Orleans (27), Dallas (22)The number in parenthesis is Football Outsider's rank for that team's rushing defense. Gado faced 5 defenses ranked, on average, 13th. Foster faced 5 defenses ranked, on average, 22nd. In fact, Foster only faced a single defense ranked higher than 22nd during that entire stretch... and he ran behind a better offensive line, and he didn't miss a game due to injury (Gado left the Baltimore game due to injury)... and despite all of that, he managed a mere 17 more yards per game (and four fewer TDs)?I'd say that Gado "touches Foster" after all.
I'd take Gado over Foster every day of the week, and twice on Sundays.
Wow... Gado doesn't even come close to Foster in talent.
I won't argue that. Of course, Tom Brady doesn't come close to Ryan Leaf in terms of talent, and as far as talent goes, Terrell Davis probably couldn't hold Tatum Bell's jock.
I'd take Gado over Foster every day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

Agreed. I've never once had a question about Foster's talent. It's his inability thus far to stay healthy that's the issue with him. But he has big-time talent in my opinion.
If you've never questioned his talent, perhaps its time to start. Even when healthy and on the field, he's never been able to produce against any but the most WOEFUL of defenses. He sucks. He may look good sucking, but that doesn't change the fact that he sucks.
