Will Carroll ESPN Injury Guy (1 Viewer)

I've got to say I've been reading Carrolls articles on ESPN and have been impressed. I am a little familiar with his "under the knifle" articles at Baseball Prospectus but am curious as to his knowledge about football injuries. He's posted positive comments about Portis and a somewhat lukewarm review of Steve Smith's injury. Anybody know what his background and credentials are? It is interesting reading and is becoming one of my favorite weekly articles to read.

Will knows his injuries. He is the author of "The Juice" (about performance enhancing drugs) and "Saving the Pitcher", as well as the "Under the Knife" columnist for Baseball Prospectus. I believe he also has some sort of gig with the NBA regarding injury analysis. His forte is definitely baseball - but his medical knowledge crosses over sports.

I'd take his word over coach-speak and GMs downplaying injuries any day. He operates independent from NFL team salaries and management, so you know you're getting an objective view of the situation.

Full disclosure: I was/am in a baseball league with him this season (radio promotion).

Would you mind posting what he had to say about Portis?
