Will Eli Manning get into the HOF? (1 Viewer)

My friend (who is a passionate Giants fan) thinks there is no doubt the Eli Manning will get into the hall of fame. What do you think?

One of the toughest HoF calls I know... not only did he win two super bowls, but offensively he was THE key ingredient in both those runs. Uber clutch.

That said, he's also flat sucked at times, hasn't made the playoffs in half a decade (though a pitiful defense has a lot of blame there).

If he gets to another Super Bowl don't see how you can keep him out. If he can get to two NFC championships, same thing. If he doesn't he'll be on the fence as one of if not the most accomplished QB not in the HoF, but accomplishments alone do not a career make.

My guess is by the end, he will have compiled large enough numbers that, along with 2 rings will get him into the hall after some time. Without those aforementioned additional wins, though, Id prob put him on the non HoF side of the fence.

Eli is 8th in total yards and 7th in total TDs all time right now. He's never missed a game and will probably play another 5 or 6 years. Add 2 super bowl wins as a Giant and he's a lock. First ballot even.

Eli is a strange case.  My gut tells me that he makes it but it would be amazing to have a Hall of Fame QB who was never once considered one of the five best players at his position while he played.

Have to agree with this.  He's going to have the compiled numbers to be among the tops to ever play.  He has two super bowl rings.  Normally I'd say that is plenty to get in.  But to me, he's never passed the eye test.  I agree he's never been considered one of the best in the game at the time, and I wouldn't consider him elite.  But, if I was a betting man I'd say he makes it.

This is where FFB tells the tale. If a RB has never been drafted in a fantasy 1st rd or, a WR in the 2nd or a QB by the 3rd, it should automatically disqualify them for HOF.

Assuming no career ending injuries anytime soon and he's a lock.   First ballot.  He'll likely retire top 5 in yards and TDs.  Add that to 2 SB rings and MVPS and there's really no chance he isn't inducted.

Sure, cost is $24 for adults. There is also a nice deal he could get a discount for the Rock and Roll HOF and the NFL HOF.

Guy is going to have more yards and TDs than Marino for his career and 2 Super Bowl rings. Lock. First ballot.

defense won those two Giants Super Bowls

Manning just got the credit
Did you not watch either of those SB runs? Yes, the defense was huge.. as was Eli's clutch play.,He was perhaps the single most influential player for both those SBs.

Two championships, sure, but we'd have had more if we kept Rivers.
This is simply insane. Maybe we'd have gotten one. Maybe we'd have none. No way we have a third when the defense has been the primary heel for this team over the past few years.

The pass attempt before the Helmet Catch, Eli threw the ball directly at Asante Samuel for the game ending INT. Awful decision. Went right through his hands. Samuel makes that catch and they replace Eli within two seasons and he's never heard from again. That would have been his defining "clutch play."

I give him no credit.
Did the playoff games leading up to that not mean anything? Dallas, Green Bay in particular?

i think he's a hall of famer.   So is Ben Rothlisberger.  I think they're in the same mold.

Why am I having to defend Eli face.

People rave about Ben's toughness and yet Eli has never missed a game. Ben has played 16 games in a season only 3 times out of 13.

Disagree strongly with this and your Rivers post.

Volume stats, longevity, and two Super Bowls is pretty much a lock to make it in.

I don't think he's a HOF caliber QB in terms of ability, but those are the things that get you in, so he'll get in.  Yes he hasn't done much in terms of winning outside of the Super Bowl runs when the defense was playing great (although he played great in those runs as well), but his only difference with regards to someone like Big Ben (who is a total lock) on that front is that he had fewer years playing alongside a really good defense.  Big Ben has played 13 seasons and last year was the first time he ever won a playoff game in a season in which his defense wasn't ranked in the top 3.

Due to recent current FBG events, I'll need to check credentials, but if you pass - I'll happily take on any bet with me on the side that says he is in.

Not that I subscribe to the notion that Passer Rating is the end all, be all but in terms of career rating, Eli ranks 38th all time.....

Right in between Mark Brunell and Sam Bradford.

It would be a nice addition to the board functionality if there was a way to capture the opinions of the board collectively/quantitatively. Something like where a poster could enter a question and answer choices, and then all the board members could vote on their answer choice and it would display the results.

In Eli's defense, he has not until very recently been in anything close to a rating friendly system.  Lotta running and throwing it deep.

That said, he makes bad decisions and is not efficient, but I believe the numbers reflect even more poorly than the reality.
