Will Gates be active week 15? (1 Viewer)

Bad situation for Gates owners that it's a Thursday game - obviously several fewer days to heal vis-a-vis a Sunday game.

 
The fact it's a Thursday game is GREAT news. We'll have every other game to choose from if he sits. Much better than waiting until Monday to see him sit.

I have Gronkowski but if Gates plays he's in my lineup.

Agreed - good news to the extent that it doesn't risk the decision, but not so good if one doesn't have good alternatives.
 
I'll take this over a 430 game. I dont know if a few extra days of rest would have mattered since he didn't play anyway on Sunday. I think though they will hold him out and see how he is with two weeks of rest going into week 16.

It stinks. He's a difference maker in my lineup but at least I will know on Thursday at 7pm who my TE will be this week.

 
NFL.com is saying he's doubtful (but I don't see an official designation)

San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates is unlikely to play against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Gates, who has been playing through a torn plantar fascia in his right foot, has done very little during practices this week. Gates was inactive for this past Sunday's victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, and a short week of preparation does not appear as if it will allow enough healing time for Gates to participate, the source said Wednesday.

NOTE: Week 16 SD @Cincy was a SNF game.........but was flexed and is now a 4:05pm start, which means we may not know his status until late Sunday next week and could impact our fantasy lineups.

NOTE2: Week 16 has both a Thurs CAR @ PITT game........AND a Sat night DAL @ AZ game........so this limits the other options even further.

 
Not sure the use of bumping this now - we will all know an hour or so before gametime. That said, I believe no player listed as doubtful by Gates' coaching staff has ever played.

It would take a minor miracle for him to play imo.

 
Unless you have the schedule luxury to wait till the announcement active or not active, all you can do is plug in your other TE. Not much else to say......

 
He's listed as doubtful. IIRC no player on a Turner team has played after being listed as such. Being it's the first game I'll wait and see...but I'll be shocked if he plays.

he played a few weeks ago after being doubtful. iirc

He was listed as questionable in weeks 7, 8, 12, and 13. Those are the last four games he's played in.He was listed as doubtful in week 9, and as questionable in weeks 11 and 14. He missed those games.He was listed as doubtful on yesterday's injury report. It is true that since Norv took over as coach, no Charger has ever played in a game for which he was listed as doubtful.

I'm sure you've realized but just to make sure, this thread is about week 15. no news yet about 16, though reports indicate he is doubtful again for Week 16.
 
It's always impossible to tell for sure until an hour before game time; but Gates says he is aiming to return during the playoffs (if the Chargers get there). I think he's pretty unlikely to play again during the regular season.

Maybe it was misinterpreted the wrong way.” The banged up Pro Bowl TE said the foot felt fine on Thursday. “The worst case scenario is that I would try to heal it over a span of time, then try and come back,” Gates said. “But (Thursday), it felt good. You know how I am, it is going to be hard to just keep me off of the field.” The Chargers take on the Bengals in Week 16.

It sounds like there's a chance. That's good to hear. I think he's a bit of a "chip on his shoulder" guy wherein this AP report could drive him to play. I have to hope. In both of my leagues I'm playing against VJax and in one of them I have Gates. Would be great to get his production and pull some production from VJax...
 
Yeah watched ESPN this morning and Gates is likely out the next two weeks to rest his feet in hopes that he MIGHT be ready for the playoffs if they make it in...

 
Yahoos little tidbit FWIW

Gates (foot/ankle) did not practice Thursday, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Recommendation: At this point we'd be surprised to see Gates listed as better than doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bengals once the Chargers' Week 16 injury report is released Friday.

Wait for the injury report. Mind you he has been listed as "out" week before last but played and had a good game.

 
not material, but that out listing a few weeks ago was a typo on the Chargers' site. The official nfl report had him as questionable.
