Will Mike Pence be President in the next 4 years? (1 Viewer)

You are wrong IMO. Unfortunately Obama's race alone directs more hate at him then Trump.

I really think liberals do some projecting and tend to exaggerate the hatred on the right.  The left's ability to find bigotry on every issue really needs to be a topic of a book. It is an epidemic.

You are putting words in my mouth and assuming I am on the left. There is still a racial divide in this country whether you choose to believe it or not.

Eh we've been on a roller coaster ride of hate & division - Clinton/Bush/Obama/Trump. I can see the criticisms of all 4 presidents but I think what it is is that it has become a business. Between the media and people and private life becoming increasingly politicized, it's not good. Our leadership has gotten worse and worse. We have to stop blaming others, we've become dysfunctional and unpredictable as a society.

I mean just look at those 4 presidents as a whole, as a string of national decisions. These are wild emotional swings by the American people. I mean if we lived in Kirabati looking at America from a distance right now and over 25 years, we'd be asking what the hell are they doing?

I agree except I really thought Obama got less hate than any president since Carter or maybe Bush Sr.   Trump has just started, but he is clearly going to have more hatred against him than anyone.  The treatment of presidents has been horrible and how Americans deal with their differences on political issues needs to stop.  My hatred rankings would be:

1.  trump

2.  GW

3.  Clinton

4.  Reagan

5.  Obama

6.  Bush Sr

And even what the bottom two got was unacceptable

It may just be our time reference.

Nixon was reviled.

Carter became hated... and well frankly the economy went real bad, people were very upset.

LBJ basically resigned.

Getting back to the OP...

...for Trump to either not get reelected (like Carter) or resign (like Nixon, LBJ (effectively))... he would have to become really, really unpopular. Now he comes in at 40% approval, which is crazy low, to start. Usually a president's highwater mark or one of them is the start of his presidency.

Unfortunately, while it isn't as ubiquitous as some people see, bigotry is really far reaching in this country.  And even when it is ghat far reaching, sometimes making the discussion about the bigotry itself is counterproductive. But it definitely is the subject of several books already.

A few acendotals in a country of 300 million plus is not convincing.
That is what I could find in 10 minutes in the news area of Google.  This is just the stuff that made news recently.  I didn't go back 8 years.  There are plenty more...

What would it take to convince you?

A lobotomy to remove every bit of experience I have seen on how liberals throw race into every issue and yet know it plays no role in how I view issues.  There are lots of people who still hold discriminatory views, but I still don't believe that is a dominate factor shaping views on certain issues.  The people who are actually driven by racism in forming their views are a very tiny minority, but yet accusations of racism is thrown in the face of people virtually every time any issue is discussed today.  It is maddening to people and people are sick of this tactic.

It may help bridge the gap if we all stop viewing expressions by politicians as simple tactics and start viewing them as sincerely held beliefs.

If a number of people on the left view something as racist, isn't it worth looking into? And if a number of people on the right view something as clearly not racist, isn't it worth the left looking into other - sometimes sincerely important - reasons, even if there are discriminatory effects of a bill/position? I think so.

but the vast majority of the people on the left view racist, misogynistic, homophobic policies or positions as a tactic, too - just a "dog whistle" to whip up support from their base.  Just as you view calling out racism as a tactic.

Another couple pressers like today's and we have a legit crisis on our hands. We may have one right now.

I give this 2 years, tops.

??
I respectfully disagree. This is just S.O.P. for Trump. He's been doing it for a long time. And as long as he sticks to lying about insignificant subjects, then our system of government will chug right along for 4 years.

Let's wait and see how Trump handles real subjects instead of attendance numbers.
