Will Shanahan Wait One Hour Before Kickoff To Announce Starting RB ? (1 Viewer)

I also saw where a local writer said that Morris is going to be there starter this week. I think it was on Rotoworld. Crazy...
Just heard this from a Washington beat reporter on NFL Network today too. Sorry, no clue who the guy was. Came in about the middle of the interview.

Chris Cooley admitted last season that not even he, as a Redskins player, had a solid grasp on which running back would be starting on a week-by-week basis.

Cooley recalled an experience early last November, when the Redskins were about to play the 49ers. "I walked up to (Ryan) Torain in the locker room and said, 'Dude, you're starting on my fantasy team this week. And I'm hoping for a big week. I'm playing my wife," Cooley said. "And he's like, 'Oh, cool man. Yeah, I'll see what I can do." Roy Helu started and totaled 141 yards on 24 touches. "I'm in the locker room and I don't know who's starting," Cooley said. "So, it's kind of a mixup and I'm not exactly sure what we're doing or who's going in." Sep 3 - 6:49 PM

IMO, that is bad coaching.Make a choice and stick with it.
Agree and I think it partly speaks to the lack of success Shanny has had over the last ten years or so.

Rolling the dice with a Gimpy Trent or Morris. It would be awesome to have any kind of indication but I understand how it works.

I'm sorry. I'm 38 years old and I"ve noticed that older generation of people tend to play these "mind games" rather then treat their players like mature adults. He plays these mind games with them...in hopes he can get his players to practice hard during the week and "mabye they will get to start". So the theory goes....they will practice hard....it hopes they can "win his approval" and start that following Sunday.I'M SORRY....THIS IS SO YESTERDAY'S LEADERSHIP STYLE. IT DOESN'T TREAT HIS PLAYERS WITH THE RESPECT AND PROFESSIONALS THAT THEY ARE. I CAN SEE MAYBE YOU CAN EMPLOY THIS MOTIVATION TACTIC ON SOME PLAYERS.....BUT HE HAS HAD THIS PHILOSOPHY FOR A VERY LONG NOW.IF YOU EMPLOY YESTERDAY'S LEADERSHIP STYLE (WITH NEW GENERATIONAL PLAYERS)IT RARELY EVER WORKS OUT. HE HID GOLD WITH MIKE BELL AND OLANDIS GARY A WHILE BACK....BUT HASN'T HIT GOLD IN A VERY LONG TIME. TIME TO CHANGE SHANNY...TIME TO CHANGE !P.S. FORGIVE ME FOR MY BITTERNESS. I JUST WISH SHANNY WOULD WAKE UP FROM THE CLOUDS AND USE WISE LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES. THERE ARE GOOD PARTS ABOUT SHANNY ...I'M SURE...BUT THIS MIND GAME CRAP HAS GOT TO STOP.

I'm volunteering for this again by picking up Morris off of the waiver wire. I have a bench that includes Jaquizz, LeShoure, D. Wilson, and Morris. Oh, so much fun.

FWIW, I still think Morris looked awesome in preseason. Shanny rewards faith, I hear.

I thought Helu looked the most explosive, but the sample size is obviously very small.

He ran and caught the ball all over the Seahawks last year on the road, which I thought was impressive. Seahawks had a good run defense. Helu was also a combine beast. This was fun last year, too. Hightower/Torain/Helu/do I pick up Royster and give him the Week 16 start? Just eating popcorn and waiting for this to shake out. Maybe I'll start Morris for kicks, anyway.

Shanny is a step shy from loon. Keep em guessing is one thing . Keeping your players inthe dark is entirely different.

That is odd. Do you think they're just silent because they're instructed to be silent? Seems bizarre that the tight ends don't know who is going to get the bulk of the carries at running back.

It's hilarious that Shanhan pulls this crap every year. Instead of trying to fool everybody maybe he should just put a good game plan together and go out and execute it. Helu could probably be a beast especially in PPR, but who knows what Shanny will do. I agree with the poster that said hope for a good game and then trade.
Can't use this tactic AND put together a game plan? The guy has been doing this for some time and has a few rings. I think he knows what he is doing when it comes to game planning. A little more than a bunch of fantasy nerds anyway.

Maybe he is using it to gain a tactical advantage instead of as a motivational ploy. I know that isn't ideal for you and your fantasy team but I am guessing that your fantasy team is lower on his list of priorities than you like to think.I think you need a fresh tissue.

Why should it matter to the TE? As long as he takes care of his assignment, he should not be worrying about who is out there with him as long as they are taking care of theirs.

You're right, to a degree. And really, I'd bet that's what he would say. But it might be better to know your teammate's weaknesses and strengths to carry out your assignment. (And the TE thing isn't random, by the way, because it was Chris Cooley that mentioned how he didn't know who would be the RB last year - that's why I mentioned the TE.)

Why? The opportunity cost for this is pretty much nil.

:lmao: I dont see what the big deal is. if i was shannahan, i would do the same thing.
I don't care what he does -- I just don't see how keeping secrets from your own team gives you a tactical advantage.
i guess thats why he is the coach and we are playing fantasy football.
Apples and Oranges. A better comparison would be Skeletors winning record and his RB production as a Head Coach of Washington vs. the winning record and RB production of his peers throughout the NFL. At this stage, his peers are in the lead by quite a sizable margin. When Skeletor is annointed the next Bill Belichick, i'll buy into his wacky style of picking RB's. Rigth now, it's just another distraction for a team that will be lucky to post 5 wins under an owner that would rather fill seats than win championships.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Not that I disagree with any of this ...

If you are resorting to start a Redskins rb this week your team is probably in big trouble.
This. If you rostered a redskins rb you should have expected/prepared for this. No need to get angry at the coach. :lmao:

Sounds like a fair comparison

I think it will be Morris. in the last game the redskins benched the starters. Morris was benched while helu played. I think Morris will get the start but everyone will get touches. I wouldnt recommend starting any of them but its worth rostering one of them and hoping they have a big game so you can trade them.

I'm not familiar with that source... is it legit?

EDIT: Found another

Chris Russell

@Russellmania980

"@DanHellie: #Redskins will start rookie 6th round pick Alfred Morris at RB vs. Saints on Sunday.

:lmao: - exactly. I tried to warn anybody. Run away...run far, far away. For your sanity and roster spots' sakes.

 i was deciding on whether to keep him on the roster or drop him. No way im starting him.

The Saints don't have a great run game (5.0 YPC allowed, 29th in the league) but because teams usually fall behind early they don't get run on much. If the Redskins can stick to ground game they could put up a lot of yards.

The bolded is the problem. Which RB (and it can change week to week) is "they"?

Would you start Helu if The Rat came out and said he was the starter?

Yes?

Then start him anyway. I can't think of another situation where the "starter" designation means so little.
This. Even if a RB is listed as the starter all that means is he's likely to get the first carry. Shanny has shown time and time again that he will go with other options if the starter doesn't look very good or makes a mistake. This is nothing new and if you chose to rely on these guys then you have no one to blame but yourself. Other late round options were available for people doing an upside down draft.

From NFL.com:

"Long-tortured fantasy enthusiasts know better than to overreact to this development, because Shanahan will utilize a swirl of backfield sets and personnel. That's been his way since the days of early man."

Dont you all know that this is only a pl0y to motivate Tatum Bell
