Will the Patriots be the favorites (1 Viewer)

New England should still be the best team in the NFL going into next year, right? I have no idea how many players they're losing. They do get a very high draft pick.

Questions:

1.Was the amazing offensive show we saw this year a one year thing? Or will Brady and company put up tremendous numbers again next year?

2. The defense is full of old veterans. Will they be revamped?

3. Will they be more of a running team featuring Maroney next year, as they were in the playoffs?

If I had to guess, I would say the answers are no, yes, yes, and a 13-3 record, home field, and a return trip to the SB and a championship.

Thoughts?

I'm just being homest. I still think they're by far the best team. I loved that they lost tonight, but you c an't take anything away from them.

1. Lots of game tape on that offense now. Look at how sub-par teams nearly knocked them off at the end of the year.2. That DEF got tired at the end of the year. Has some areas to exploit. Lots of holes to fill coming up.3. They need a punisher like Corey.Big let down coming fellas...history is not on their side.I wouldn't be surprised if Belichick retired suddenly.

Yes. They're still the best team I've ever seen. Brady's only 30. Belichick isn't going anywhere. They'll be back.

Obviously they're a great team and will be in the thick of things next year but you've done a complete 180 from your Patshate to your Pats love. They're not "by far" the best team. They haven't looked "by far" the best team in several weeks now. Everyone but Pats fans have seen that. We all knew they were beatable and today it was proven. They're a great team but why even worry about next year? Just enjoy this man.....this is what you wanted.

As long as they get Moss under contract and the LB corps stays relatively intact, they (of course!) will be the favorites next year. The more interesting question is whether the Giants are installed as the NFC favorites.

I would be surprised if they weren't one of the top 2-3 teams in the Vegas line for champs next season.

No way they'll stick the G-men up there.

The G-men are just the St. Louis Cardinals of '06.. they're the January/February champions.. but weren't the best team throughout. You definitely won't see they in the top 3-4 of favored teams next season.. it's the same uninspiring team.. and variance happens.

The Giants were a 5th seed and have the advantage of not playing a 1st place schedule next year. That shouldn't be underestimated when it comes to setting preseason odds. At worst, the Giants will be 3rd among NFC teams, but more likely they will have slightly better odds than either the Cowboys or Packers.

Actually, they won't make the playoffs.

Other than the Seahawks from '06 - most of the Super Bowl losers going back about a decade don't make the playoffs the following season.

The Patirots will be the favorites. They have a seriously easy schedule (only 4 games against playoff teams and one other game against a .500 team, the Cardinals). As annoying as hearing about perfection all year was for most folks, it'll actually some entertainment value next year as they pile up win after win but still have the millstone of 18-1 around their neck.

Best you've ever seen? Bears in 85 18-1 SuperBowl win, 49ers Montana led 18-1 Superbowl destruction of Bronco's and several other teams were more dominant...

Best I've ever seen. Their offense was easily the best in history, they coupled it with a solid D, and Brady managed to pull close games out every single time...except one.

Playoff team? No doubt because of their pathetic division and weak schedule (unlike this year). Favored? Hardly.

1. They will be forced by Moss' and Welker's agents (and possibly Stallworth and Gaffney's as well) to sign them to MARKET value contracts instead of the low-ball crap they got away with this year. How will they do that AND stay under the salary cap?

2. Their defense is getting old. Seau, Bruschi and Harrison may all retire, or SHOULD. Even Vrabel is getting up there in years.

3. Their offensive line was shown to be average at best. Matt Light is the most overrated lineman in the history of the NFL. No way he deserves to be in the Pro Bowl. He consistently commits false starts and holds because he is so out-classed (and then does leg-whips when beaten).

4. Their cheating will be brought out in the offseason full-bore. This will put not only all of their Super Bowl wins (all by a mere FG) with an asterisk, but will put the team and Belicheat under the microscope all season long.

The Cheatriots will win their pathetic division, probably without a loss in it. They might even win all but a couple of games. But the favorite should be the Colts who should have won it all and have developed depth while New England got old with guys trying to pimp a Super Bowl ring.

They may be the best you've ever seen but they're not the best team ever. Thats not even a discussion at this point.

Hi. I'm a manic Dolphins fan. Pleased to meet you.I'm just a little too young to remember the 1972 Dolphins.

Um, teams who wins the championship down? The Patriots are the 2nd best team in the 2007 season.
Jesus Christ. Let me qualify it in yet another thread. For the majority of this season, they were the best team I've ever seen. They simply were not the best team when it mattered most (tonight).

That means they were NOT the best team. Period. They got lucky, cheated, got lucky calls, and were relatively unscathed by injuries. Lucky, not invincible.

If we want this thread to stay open, let's stop the madness. Debating whether the Patriots are (or are not) the best team of this season or all-time is perfectly reasonable. Suggesting they were lucky to win 18 games is not.

A lot can change between now and September. Wait until the draft and free agency to see what they put on the field for next year before making any bold statements.

The only way I could hate the Pats more is if they also played baseball in New York, but you're selling them short. We're just going to have to agree to disagree here...and I can't believe you're making me argue FOR the Pats.

Agree with some of this, but #3? Are you kidding me? Granted the Giants had the best pas rush I've ever seen against New England, but other than the 90's Cowboys, the Patriots have the best offensive line I have ever seen, period. Average at best? LOL
