Willis McGahee 2012 (1 Viewer)

He will be on the field a lot. Managed 4.8 ypc last year with Tebow, eager to see what he can do with Manning.

I was pretty big on the notion of Hillman cutting into McGahee's production early on, but with Hillman's hamstring issues, that's much less of a concern and it means McGahee will be on the field that much more. Also consider that this is a team in win-now mode and it's starting to look like Manning may not air it to too much (at least initially) and I think you'll see them feed the ball to the guy they trust (McGahee). I think there's a good chance that McGahee looks like one of the better values in the draft for at least the first part of the season.

I believe that one of McGahee's biggest strengths has always been that he is great at pass protection. With Manning in his current state of affairs, I think it would be in the Bronco's favor to give Manning the best protection that he can get.

It seems that every year - sometime around week 2 or 3 - I look back at the draft and say to myself "I should have seen that coming". There's always some veteran that everyone writes off for dead that performs like he's always performed, yet everyone is surprised. I've read Cecil's Bronco's reports and see that Hillman looks like the heir apparent. I was starting to buy into it, but I'm not so sure that this will be the year that he takes the reigns.

It seems that McGahee has several things going for him:

- A Manning led offense should deliver more goal line chances. Whether or not that translates to more rushing TDs is the big question in my mind.

- McGahee is good at picking up the blitz. Definitely a plus in his column. They are going to need to protect their investment. Keep him on his feet. From what I've read, this is not even close to being Hillman's strength.

- He's currently starting.

- He's a solid goal line back.

- He's coming off a solid year

- Coach Fox seems to favor & place more trust in his veteran players.

He's definitely a guy I'm going to keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks. If Hillman isnt able to make any headway, then McGahee could have an easy road to a high-level RB2 (or even possibly a low RB1) type season.

The other good thing about this situation is that, at least in Indy, Manning was always one of the better quarterback at recognizing when the defense was defending the pass too much, and would frequently call an audible to pick up an easy 4-5 yards with a quick run. If Addai can do it, McGahee can do it.

While McGahee is going to lose the benefit of a mobile Tebow, he's going to gain the defense's respect for Manning and thus never more than 7 men in the box, and he's going to be running in more ideal situations against a nickel defense.

I was very high on him in July, started to wan a bit lately with some Hillman hype (mostly due to Lammey's reports), and now am back on the bandwagon. Should at least start the season strong in the first 4-5 weeks.
