WIS 2012: Back to the Future II - Draft and Season Thread (1 Viewer)

PSA: some teams have illegal lineups on fantrax, and so are not accumulating stats.
I just changed the roster rules so that you can have everybody on your roster active. I also added SP and RP positions along with high max for each position so that you can organize your roster as you fit. Since we are only using this for purposes of tracking our teams, I don't see why not.

26.03 3B Juan FranciscoProbably better than some of the 3Bman drafted in the 14th/15th round.
I was going to take him this round and would have earlier if I needed a 3B. Rolen is breaking down and Juan's bat is legit. He will probably be awful in the field and he whiffs a ton, but he should have 200-300 ABs and might hit .300
Yeah I was thinking about taking him next round too... I have an irrational man crush on Todd Frazier and I'm hoping Frazier gets 300 ABs between 3B/OF (and maybe a little 2B/SS) and hits .270 with 12-13 HRs. Francisco has the same potential to mash for 300-400 ABs. Of course, Dusty could also give Miguel Cairo 300 ABs there and it wouldn't shock me.
Cairo definitely throws a wrench in things. He is a locked roster spot and they won't carry both Frazier and Francisco at the same time (until Rolen hits the DL). Right now, I'd guess Frazier is back in Louisville, but that is probably up for grabs in spring.
Francisco traded. As long as they ignore the lack of lefties per usual, Frazier just made the team.

Yet somehow they STILL sent Frazier down. WTF, Dusty? Just marry Miguel Cairo already.

I've got two opening day starters - Strasburg and Bedard. I'm assuming someone probably has 3.

Amazingly, SoCal probably doesn't have any despite having 4 really good starters (Cain, Hamels, Marcum, J Zimm)

Lincecum, Colby Lewis and BRUCE EFFING CHEN!Daniel Hudson and Zack Grumpy relegated to #2s...

If we were playing this season in real-time, everybody with Indians and Blue Jays players would be in fatigue hell right now.

at least I have twice as many steals as anyone else...

too bad I think I'm in last place in ever single other category at this point...

Damon to the Indians is close. The fact that I am even excited about a "close" signing is pretty pathetic.
Sounds like he's just a rental until Ouchmore gets back.
ABs are ABs. I don't need many to make him a useful bench player. And I am sure we can count on Grady to be gone longer (or again) than reported.
Or get hurt again. Heyman or Rosenthal said that about him having an out clause when Sizemore gets back, but I find it hard to believe they'll just dump him if he's doing well even when Sizemore gets back. Good chance he'll get hurt again.

the most annoying thing about the way WIS handles defensive range (chances/game, rather than per inning) is that it penalizes a player who comes into games late as a defensive specialist.

Yeah, they seriously need to fix this.
There's no defensive innings played data for historical players
I know that. I just think that they should have two separate rules for the defensive ratings. For years when they don't know how many innings, keep it the same. But for the years they do know the innings, why not be more right?

The good: Matt Kemp! Austin Jackson! Strasburg! Omar Infante with 4 HRs!

The bad: Michael Morse, not sure when he'll be back, Ervin Santana 3.09 HR/9, Iwakuma vanished, Buehrle hasn't been good

Why do I even bother drafting stud RP? Last year it was Soria and Broxton, this year Brian Wilson.

That aside, I can't complain too much about my early returns.

I will trade you Madson if interested.

Coming up tonight. That didn't take long.

Too many of my guys either started the season in the minors, or have been sent down already  Not nearly as bad as last season, but I thought I had that problem licked with better spring-training intel :(

That said, I should still have enough solid players to field a nice WIS squad, even if the drafted squad collectively blow in FanTrax.

How do you know it is April?

My three catchers are getting on base at a near 500 clip (39/82).

So far so good overall. Depth concerns are at SP and possibly 2B. I only have 5 full time starters with Detwiler and Gomez as 5th starters at the moment. Brad Lincoln could be giving me some starts soon. Beckham is off to another bad start at 2B and unless Lombardozzi can get decent 2B fielding rates with the occasional starts there, I don't have much of an option if he doesn't play all year.

The Good: Jason Heyward, Jonathan Lucroy, Josh Thole, Denard Span, Evan Longoria, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Steve Lombardozzi (sounds like at least 300 PA's), Chad Billingsley, Ryan Dempster, Jonathon Niese

The Not So Good: Mat Latos, Most of the Bullpen, Gordon Beckham, Gaby Sanchez, Yunel Escobar

I like my team so far. Everyone I needed to win a preseason battle did, at least for now...

Not too sure how starting pitching will shake out for me but I'm looking good with my ace Barry Zito.

George Kottaras currently OPSing 1.783

I'm more concerned about early season injuries to CB Young, Franklin Gutierrez and Salvador Perez than I am about small sample underperformance of Cano, Barmes and Rod Barajas. Unlike a normal fantasy league, I'll never recover the PAs these guys lose while they're on the DL.

So far, so good on the pitching side.

2002 called and wants their terminology back.

Everyone from the Cardinals on my teams is raking, unfortunately there's not much else to see right now other than seriously depressed BABIP numbers.

Minor housekeeping note - I drafted Bryan Petersen LH OFer in the Marlins system, not Bryan Peterson LH OFer in the Red Sox system.
