WIS XV: Alphabet Soup with a side of Salary- Draft & Season Thread (1 Viewer)

2.05 Larry Walker, OF

Depending upon how the end of the draft goes, would prefer to go with the '99.

Going away from pitching early here, but should be fun with these two bats at the heart of my lineup.

So Koya's stadium is by league vote at the end of the draft, correct? Who is OTC in the stadium draft?

I must say the scarcity issues - letters and positions - is making this interesting to say the least.

Going to be some scarcity positions that are going to be tough to fill - pitching is a bit easier to manage since you just sort pitching, but to make sure you have a Middle Infield etc. could get hairy.

Its funny, but I am always on the other side of this argument. I can piece together 2 guys to play a position or 3 to rotate between 2, but I have never found a good strategy for piecing together a pitching staff. You have to have 4 decent starters or you are going to lose. Having a hole at one position on the diamond doesn't the affect the outcome of the game the same way.

Shut up.

Suppose it depends on your definition of "decent starters"

While true, the letter constraints this time do alter the order in which you want to pursue some guys especially since some of the letters are basically useless this time around. It's not like every team is going to have 25 guys that can play this time around (and by play I mean not be that hole in the lineup when platooned). The 20-25th guys on rosters this time around are going to be a huge step down from previous SIMs.

With our past efforts, I agree wholeheartedly. But here I think it will be far more difficult to find those patches. You need a backup 3B, but their initial needs to start with v, q or e. That's kinda limiting. For pitchers at least you can say "I need 300 innings" from those letters. In fact, this is the first time I have not gone pitching heavy early for that reason. Perhaps after 8-10 rounds we can begin to sense where the real weaknesses will be.

Any and all advice given by Koya is subject to the terms and conditions of suckitude. My glory days in WIS are long past - like Bill Parcells living on the laurels of those nice Giant's Super Bowls.

Oh, I have no idea if my strategy will work or not, just discussing what my thinking was with going pitching in the first 2 rounds.

Hell it may work again, I just know I'm not expecting the second part Of any platoon to be start able in the standard sense. The dropoff in some of the positions in some letters is more than a little severe.

H is for Humility, and nothing says humility like...

2.14 Rickey Henderson, OF

Never had this guy in any sim before since I usually ignore speed entirely.

When I went with Hornsby (whom I've never had in a SIM), I knew that meant no Hendy - figured some of those big bats might start to go around here. Thought about going Hendy in round two if I went in another direction rather than Hornsby.
