WIS XV: Alphabet Soup with a side of Salary- Draft & Season Thread (1 Viewer)

this format is perverse. value x position scarcity x alphabet scarcity. how do you figure out rankings in 3 dimensional space?

btw, if i had a team in this, i'd name it oso caldo alfabeto
When a guy has all 3 it's easy (Yount, Verlander, Utley)... the question is how do you value a guy who only has 2 of the 3 dimensions.
Plan on drafting Todd Zeile?
NO ONE DRAFTS MY UNSUNG CHILDHOOD HERO.

On a more serious note, Larry and I are in some discussions about a trade. This could take a few minutes.

Hmm. I'm officially free ballin' with Dr. D after these developments. Figured I would try to sneak Utley and Yount around the 1/2 turn. Apparently folks are in on the letter scarcity nice and early.
I think letter scarcity is going to be pretty overrated when all is said and done. Not to specifically criticize anyone taken so far, as you can make a case that they are all towards the top of their position tiers, but I think generally it's more likely to result in having stronger positions 22-25 on the roster at the expense of top end strength.
The max salary rule makes letter scarcity more of a consideration. By removing the extreme statistical outliers, we created a performance plateau and increased the importance of the other two factors.

Don't we have until like round 4? That said, Ill do it after my pick after the turn. Not really dragging, just shuffling. Everyday.

I just got home... it's gonna take me a little while to get some stuff sorted out...

if someone more than 2 spots lower than me wants to swap spots, i'm open to it... just post the pick (first come first serve)... otherwise I should have a pick in like 30-45 tops...

The max salary rule also makes deeper rosters more important. You'll probably need to use at least 18-20 of your guys. It's not perfect but it's reasonable.

False. You have until the end of round 1 or you get the WIS neutral stadium.

do I repick stadium, am I stuck with Yankee Stadium, or do we just switch draft picks and I still pick in the same stadium spot?

I'm ok with either of the options (although I am by far least ok with taking Yankee Stadium...)

The irony being I was ready to do the LarryTrade - and even had a player ready.

T-Up picked Yankee Stadium so he keeps it. You get your pick where you originally had it.

Google spreadsheet (letters tab) includes a count of how many of each are taken.

2 each for V, W, Y in the first 11 picks.

Page 1 will be updated for the pick trade momentarily.

I can see a good strategy of alternating back and forth on value/position scarcity/alphabet scarcity. I was going another route then did some math on Yaz and decided that was the best pick at that point. But I'm sure I'll go several rounds where I don't even consider letters outside of making sure I didn't already pick an R or a D. Anyway, everytime I overthink these drafts my team never ends up being what I want it to be. I can achieve those same results by putting in a third of the effort this time.

this is a good point, and has prompted me to alter my baselines (for VBD purposes). For batters anyway.

Leonard was my guy. Didn't know he had a past. Damn.
Yount, H Wagner, Leonard, and Tiant were all coming up over and over as I spun the data preparing for my 1.8 pick. Leonard was the last guy I eliminated before going with Yount.Looks like many of us are on the same page.

Letter scarcity is not playing into my valuations. Instead, I have a set-up that shows me how many good players are left in a given letter.

FWIW, I would be willing to swap pics (1.21) through the draft, or just this / next round if someone is interested.
