Had I gotten one of Wally Joyner's top two seasons with more slugging, I could've hit him fourth ahead of Gaetti. Might still end up doing that, but for now, I'm looking at this lineup:

Seems fair-to-middling for a league like this. Could've used a few best-season rolls -- especially for Foster, Dykstra, and Joyner ... but, of course, we can all say that.

I do like that everyone except for Bell and Dykstra have at least a little pop in their bat (though Dykstra picks up a lot of doubles & triples). My squad's power is kind of distributed among six guys. Comiskey II is neutral to left and +1 to right field -- given normalization for 1981's at-bats, George Foster should still be a 30-35 HR hitter in this thing.

Ugh. Only 300 PA for Hassey, plus Slaught and all the lefty relievers I wanted gone. On the bright side if I had taken an RP instead of Hassey the 3 would’ve rendered him unusable, so at least I got something.

The 3 gives me the best power (HR/PA and SLG) for Mulliniks which is what I drafted him for but also the fewest PA and most butchery at 3B, so...

Ok, Lineup is in.  Looking middling, but as usual I tried to build according to batting order (not a believer in the order doesn't matter philosophy )

Gladden might be the only best season offensively, though Fletcher's season is tops including defense.  Got Thompsons weaker defensive season, but one of the best ranges from any second baseman, so I'll take that and the C+.

Gladden will be #2 hitter (maybe #1) against Lefties in addition to coming in for Gamble for defense and taking center for Lemon's 50-100 needed PAs.   -2 HR park so other than the three thumpers in the middle, wasn't looking for HR punch, but it's there if needed.

Considering I started with 3 pitchers, not terrible.

ETA: Slash line isn't as ugly as I'd have thought. Not sure how its over .470 slugging considering some of the lightweights I have in there (either great D or really good OBP).

77-92 was the period where modern bullpen usage began.  There were guys in the mid-70s who were throwing 140 IP in multi-inning stints.  Most of the firemen were failed starters.  Late in the decade came the emergence of relief specialist, some of whom had been developed in the minors as relief pitchers.  The role of the closer became codified in the 80s, culminating in guys like Eckersley who would never appear except for SV situations.  In the 27 seasons since 1992, there hasn't been nearly as much change in the way RPs are used.

I wasn't crazy about the rule change but was interested to see how the 3 batter minimum rule would affect bullpens this season.
