Wonderlics for QB's tweeted by Mortensen (1 Viewer)

Supposedly Chris Mortensen tweeted these QB wonderlic scores:

"QBs prepped more in this era. McElroy 43, Gabbert 42, Ponder 35, Stanzi 30, Dalton 29, Mallett 26, Newton 21, Locker 20. What does it mean? "

It's interesting but doesn't mean much in the long run to me. Dan marino scored a 13 IIRC meanwhile brian griese scored a 35 on it.

Like everything else at the combine it's a just another piece of the puzzle. I'd only be concerned if a QB's score is below, say, 17 or something. In today's NFL I do think a QB needs to be a bit smarter than the average linebacker for example.

He missed Kaepernick who, according to reports, scored a 37.

Vince Young scored a 6 on this test
There's a whole list of scores at:http://www.macmirabile.com/Wonderlic/Wonderlic.htmHere are some other more notable ones:Alex Smith - 40, Eli Manning - 39, Tom Brady - 33, Steve Young - 33, John Elway - 30, Troy Aikman - 29, David Carr - 24, Brett Favre - 22, Michael Vick - 20, Dan Marino - 16, Jeff George - 10

Terry Bradshaw scored like crap too. These days players are much better prepared for the wonder-test than in the past. The W score is not everything but like the poster above said "piece of the puzzle". Someone posted a link where you could try the test yourself on this board sometime in the past. After trying it myself, the thing that struck me most about the W test is that its not so much about what you know but how fast you answer. There is definately technique to it like all of the other events at the combine. These days candidates are far better prepared for the combine events than in the past. Perhaps the combine in general is not as useful as it once was because it doesn't have as much of a "pop quiz" type factor to it.

AJ Green scoring a 10 is a concern. While WR's don't have as many mental challenges as QB's, for a guy projected to go 1 or 2 in fantasy drafts to score that low could tilt things toward Ingram for those undecided.http://blogs.ajc.com/jeff-schultz-blog/2011/03/18/a-j-green-bombs-in-wonderlic-does-that-mean-anything/
While I agree to an extent, "run, catch; zig, zag" does not seem like Nuclear Studies 101...I "hope" Mr. Green will be fine.

Actually, in a lot of systems the WR is required to make the same read as the QB, when it comes to coverages. At least, that's how I understand it. Its not like they're playing center and making calls at the line, but still, a WR needs to be fairly intelligent in some offensive schemes.

Considering H. Nicks scored a 11 last year I am not too concerned. The guy can flat out play football. Really don't care how well he scores on test.

The Wonderlic test is a general knowledge test. Some players score poorly because they are dumb. Some players score poorly because they don't care about anything outside of football. That's why the teams interview players, to differentiate between the two. Marino may have scored a 15, but he could talk intelligently about football, and that's why the Dolphins weren't worried about spending their 1st round pick on him.

We have the Wonderlic Test at our office.

The materials they provide have the following Median Job Applicant scores:

Chemist - 31

Computer Programmer - 29

Sales - 24

Police - 21

Typist - 21

Labor, Unskilled -21

Nurse's Aide - 17

Warehouse Person - 15

Maid/Matron - 11

Median of all scores = 21

IQ

10 = 80 IQ

21 = 102

30 = 120

41 = 140

Something is way off. No way that 4 of those QBs have IQs above 120. I also highly doubt that Gabbert and Ponder are both MENSA members.
