1 Rio Forge Sport 256MB MP3 Player
I tried to at least. I clicked the button, entered my CC and shipping info and clicked the button. It just took me back to the Woot homepage after that though and when I click "My Account" it says I haven't bought anything. I'm really confused by all of that.purchased two Rio Forge Sport 256 MB MP3 players in December 2005. Since that time the volume control switch (down) has broken on both of them.Just bought 2.
I've got about 100 Gig of mp3s at home, now wife and I have mp3 players for the gym! Nice to have FM tuner for the TVs at the gym.
refurbished.. hopefully they are ok.
Glad I checked this before I almost pulled the trigger on this one.Got one of these for Christmas, and it worked fine until the battery went dead in it. When I replaced the battery it kept telling me it needed to be reformatted. I followed the advice on the website and nothing worked. I called tech support and they walked me through it, but it still would not work. Then they told me the memory was corrupted (and from what they said it was a common problem) and had to be replaced. But since my wife had bought it well in advance of Christmas it was past the 90 day warranty. That's right only 90 factory warranty. Seems they acknowledge these things are only good for a month or so then give out on you sometime within the first 6 months or less. They offered to sell me a new one for around $20 dollars more than you can buy one on through this or any other website.
No wonder there are so many refurbished models for sell....
with all due respect... you might be the most annoying poster ever.

There's a forum at woot - don't need to cut and paste all the bad reviews here. There are also happy users there too. It's $30 shipped for god's sake. Take your chances.with all due respect... you might be the most annoying poster ever.![]()
Thanks man. You can go back to working your job in the iPod department at Apple now.All of the guys posting at Woot that have had this particular player have good things to say about it and Cnet gave it a 7 out of 10. Just about any player out there is going to have problems and people that post negative reviews.bought a 512 rio forge for my wife in December. It was great, and I bought a 256 for myself in January and another for my son in February. Then the problems started.
I am not sure what problems my son had, but I know he sent his back for warranty work once and then got the seller to take it back and let him buy another brand.
Then my wife's 512 stopped working -- It would only turn on momentarily. Customer support told her to send it back, which she did.
Three days ago, mine stopped working. It will not turn on at all. While I was talking to the customer support two days ago, I asked about my wife's. The tech said it was on the way back, but then realized they were returning a 256 instead of the 512 she sent in.
But not to worry. Since my 256 had to be sent back, I should keep the 256 they were sending, and they would return a 512 to me. And to make up for my trouble, they would e-mail me something I could use at UPS to send it back at their expense.
The e-mail never came. When I called back this morning, I was told it was going out today. If so, it did not arrive. I left a message with the woman I was dealing with this afternoon -- she was talking to someone else -- and told her I wanted to get the the thing repaired as quickly as possible, was willing to pay the mailing costs, and asked her to call back and tell me who to send the machine to. She didn't. And no e-mail arrived.
The 256 they exchanged for my wife's 512 arrived today. It does not work. She cannot turn it on.
In sum: three buys, three duds; a 100 % failure rate and very poor customer service.
****
A few days after I wrote the above, and after I voiced my complaints to the company, I received two new working Rio Forges in the mail, and they are have worked nicelyh ever since. I should not have had to have gone through the frustration, and I don't know why I had such a run of bad luck, but it all seemed to work out in the end. The machine is great when it works, and the two new ones have worked for about two months, now.
Thanks man. You can go back to working your job in the iPod department at Apple now.
Yeah, people who have had good experiences are much less apt to post them than those who've had bad ones. All of the guys posting at Woot that have had this particular player have good things to say about it and Cnet gave it a 7 out of 10. Just about any player out there is going to have problems and people that post negative reviews.
