also naunt. used nudge for second last guess which I thought gave me vaunt. didn't see Jaunt. I failed.

I should have used a burner as well, but obviously that's no guarantee either.

Do you guys use the HARD setting? I just got prompted to see if I wanted to turn that on. Didn't even realize there was a setting for that.

I do. It forces you to be more thoughtful in your guessing and generally (but not always) results in better scores, imo.

I thought I saw a potential conflict on Rally. Turns out, there was not. Regardless, that caused me to think a burner was appropriate. Had I trusted Rally, I wouldn't have guessed Rival over Viral. That, plus the burner, ended my day. Crap.

Do people here do letter boxed as well? I aim to get them in three, which I managed today.

In theory, it goes by difficulty. Yellow-Green-Blue-Purple.
 
I did notice in my 2nd guess that it let me put the E in the wrong spot again. It only requires that you use previous letters already identified. At least that's what I figured out with the E.

If you get a green one, are you required to put that in the right spot? Not saying I wouldn't want to, but are you required?

If @IvanKaramazov were still here playing, he'd have something to say about this. And not something nice.

Hard mode will allow you to wrongly place letters. The only rules are greens always have to be placed as is, and yellows can be placed anywhere, but have to be there. Even if it's in a spot known to be bad.

Was pretty sure I needed to use a burner word but instead opted for a guess and missed curvy vs curry fairly early in the game. Figured there was no way I was going to be able to solve but was able to work through the remainder.

Good God. My mistakes, in order of appearance: burner (Wispy), Usage/Amuse, Smote/Stove, Curvy/Curry. I'm pretty sure this is the worst I've ever done on this game, and I had a 100 under my belt before it caught on in this thread.

Holy crap, am I the only one to solve Octordle Rescue today? Had no idea SEPAL was a word so that was never going to be an issue for me. Must have gotten lucky on the others. I may have to pull up my results and run through how I was able to pull it off.

I didn't dive too deep into your game, but I see couple of 50-50's that you landed on the right side of. Your first word .... Legal. I also saw Fecal, so avoided it. (EDIT - just saw it couldn't have been Fecal. That was a dumb mistake on my part.) And I think you could have made the same Smote/Stove mistake I made. But generally, you're a strong player in Rescue from what I've seen. Even then, sometimes we all need a lucky bounce occasionally.

Thanks! Note that my mistake on curvy vs curry solved stove for me as I knew V was the fourth letter.

In order:

LEGAL - didn’t know sepal was a word so this seemed like the only word that fit.

LOCUS - with the L and C now in place and knowing that the word had an O (and that local wouldn’t work), this seemed like the only option.

CURRY - made a mistake on this one by guessing curvy. After the miss, curry was the only option.

STOVE - my curvy mistake solved this one. O V E were all in place and knew that S and T were the other two letters. No brainer.

DIZZY - knew it was D I - - Y and ditty didn’t work here. Saw someone guessed diddy. While I know he’s a rapper, I didn’t know that was a word. Went with dizzy.

AMUSE - here’s where I got lucky. Went with amuse though abuse was still an option. (Usage not an option as the G was eliminated.)

PHASE - no brainer. A S E already placed and knew the word had an H.

POSSE - another no brainer with PO-SE on the board.

I’m sure there may be other possibilities I missed, but in analyzing it, I didn’t know sepal was a word and I won the 50/50 on amuse/abuse (and lost a 50/50 on curvy/curry). I think that’s it. It was fun to walk through it again.
