I had the opposite problem. By the 4th attempt, I knew 4 of the letters. Didn't know where a single one of them went, but I had eliminated 2 options for each of the 4 letters.

A pretty incredible amount of information to have. Essentially, any English word I could come with to fit would almost certainly solve it.

With my mind going down the wrong rabbit holes, it still took me 30 minutes to make the 4th attempt.

Just played my 100th game.  3 fails; 97 successes.  Average of the 97 is 3.99 ..that'd be 4.x if I factored in the unsolved puzzles as you did.
