Wordle (5 Viewers)

I'm not going to wade through 134 pages looking for the answers, so my apology in advance.

Q: Is everyone in this thread playing by the hard rule, where you have to use letters that you've already found? And if you are, how does that rule work in Quordle?

Also, I'm flummoxed by everyone's first words. Has this chart been referenced?

That said, I start with "slate", and frequently follow up with "crony".
I play on hard mode, which doesn't work quite the way you'd think. It allows you make a certain type of error, where you place a yellow letter back in the same yellow spot -- it seems that should be blocked since it's not a possible solution, but whatever. I just have to try to manually stop myself from doing that, but I mess up every once in a while.

I try to avoid using the same starting word more than once if I can avoid it. Wordle is too easy to worry about optimizing. I think I'm going to start coming up with a self-chosen "theme of the week" for starting words. I like the slight additional challenge and variety of doing something different each day.

Haven't checked in to this thread in a while. Still playing Wordle but stopped playing the variations although I started playing Waffle which is pretty fun.

But the main thing I'm enjoying is Worldle and Globle. I was always decent with geography, but I've gotten a lot better. I can name and place around 170 countries on a blank map now. With probably around 95%+ accuracy. I still struggle with some of the Carribean and Pacific islands nations, but I have just about every mainland nation down pretty well. I'm close to being able to name and roughly place 200 countries/territories. I think the official country count is like 195 or 197.

I don't use hard mode as, IMO, a fair amount is just guessing; prefer strategizing with a "scout word" of sorts.

I play on hard mode as it forces me to think more, which I believe results in faster solves (in terms of number of guesses - much longer solves in terms of time). I can’t fathom how a hard mode would even work on Quordle.

I play in hard mode. I think 95% of the time it really helps me solve more quickly. It will screw you on occasion too, but that's just the way some words are. I haven't seen that chart, and I know my stater isn't optimum (ATONE), but I like it. My reasoning was that of the words that start with a vowel, 'A' words are the most common, by far. I thought it would give me a jump on those words, though as you can see by result yesterday, that isn't always the case. I also like that it ends in an 'E', another common feature of five-letter words.

But the single largest reason I use it is because I have for a long time. I know pretty well what I'm going to play next, depending on which letters hit. Also, I'm nearly positive that the first day I used a different starter would be the day that it came up.

I try to self-impose hard mode, but don’t have the setting turned on.

I stubbornly start with β€œstare” now that I hit on the first guess already with β€œstead”, and I think that hasnβ€˜t come up yet according to a chart somebody posted way back….

These are the ones I hate. When you are 1 letter off, but there are multiple answers that could fit.

i probably should done a different third word to try and find the missing letter. got lucky because this could have been a six or a miss altogether

So this month there are 8 of us playing wordle golf (4 is a par) with the lowest score for the month will with the pot ($50 buy in). My strategy before was to try and as many letters as I could in 2 words and then try and figure out the word but with each guess potentially being the difference at the end of the month I've gone to a more guess first strategy. I've been rotating between rates, aloud, and plead as starting words and have had decent success but days like todays word are killer when one or two people get a two to my four :wall:

I used to do this. Would always go tread, noisy, pluck for my first 3 guesses. it hit all vowels, plus the Y. and it hit most of the common consonants without any overlaps. Could then get it in 4 almost always, with an occasional 5. I still go tread first, but now I try and work in some of the letters from my first guess will trying to pull in other letters. This way I can possibly get it in 2 or 3.

Gah. I have a rather unfortunate streak of 5-guessers going now. Four in a row and counting ...
