(Work)Day drinking (1 Viewer)

I can't tell y'all how badly I want to do this right now.  Actually, the past few days have been.....  :loco:

I have a prescription for Ativan (Xanax-ish), and typically keep an emergency pill in my wallet, but it would appear that I did not replenish it last time I used it.  So I'm poop outta luck today.  Only 4 hours to go, with about an hour reserved for lunch and a 20-minute walk in the afternoon also planned.

I think I can make it through.

Because it's a script you could get away with popping a couple. But Lord help you if you got that demon alcohol on your breath.

About 12 years ago I was working in The City, and about once a month I’d walk about 5 blocks (just far enough to not see anyone from the office)  to a local tavern for the Friday Fish ‘n Chips special.  I’d sit at the bar, and good ‘ole Johnny the bartender would pour me a Guinness as soon as he saw me.  Whenever the pint glass got below half he’d grab it and fill ‘er back up.  At the end, he’d say something like, “Fish ‘n chips and let’s call it....2 pints”, and charge me that.  Who knows how many I actually had, probably 3-4 most days in about 90 minutes.  Then it’d be a nice walk back to the office to just wrap up some emails and things for a couple of hours.  As a sales guy with the week pretty much wrapped up, never saw much harm in it.  But I can’t say I ever even thought about actually having a drink in the office.

I did have to tell him if I ever came in with somebody to not automatically pour me a pint, just in case.  But that never came up.

Microdosing is the term now, sounds way more sophisticated and acceptable.

I've had some interesting results experimenting with microdosing at lunch - nobody thinks you're an alchoholic

If I start drinking during the day and have only had breakfast I get the same way.  Then after I get a good buzz going I don`t want to eat because it will make me tired and I will want to lay down. I have gone to tailgates when I have only had a bagel or piece of toast..been destroyed too early

You have to plan your day drinking events in advance.  Get up and eat breakfast..work out, take a walk, around 1pm eat a good lunch for your base so that way you already have 2 meals in you.  Let it digest an hour or two then have at it.
Agree.  I always think breakfast will hold me over if playing golf at say 11:00 AM.   beers on the course & then beers or other when tallying up the scorecard can really take a toll.   breakfast is not enough.  Also I absolutely cannot drink like I used to.    Well I can but the results are less than admirable.

I don't know how strict your company is, but at most companies all it really takes is one anonymous co-worker to claim that you've got alcohol on your breath.

Oh, and if you think the smell can't be detected, you're wrong.
I don’t know. Plenty of companies keep beer in the fridge or people have a bar cart in their office or a kegerator in the kitchen these days.

Booze is getting a bit old.  Once weed gets legalized, is day baking a thing?  Or is that already a given?

And I mean with normal people, not the weed degenerates on this bored.  No offense weed degenerates.
When I worked a real job I only waked & baked on my days off. Now that I’m retired & work as a well fed artist wake & bake is @tonythetiger Grrrrrrreeeaaaatttt!!!

Usually Thursday or Friday afternoon (~3pm or so) people start making Mules at work, though every now and then if someone is working late they might chill with a beer or something alone.

Fireball in your coffee to increase your productivity at work?  Slow down there Bowjack H.

A dear friend of mine got prescribed Ativan.  That stuff basically triggered a seizure in her.  She stopped taking it--and apparently--you can't just "stop" taking that stuff cold turkey.  It caused multiple health complications and she literally had to go to a clinic to undo the damage that the presctiption caused her.  Maybe that stuff works for you--but be very careful with it.  That's some scary stuff that should be taken very seriously.

Had a supervisor who did this quite a bit.  Turns out she had a stash of tequila and vodka in four different spots in her office.  She would put it in her morning coffee and take shots in the afternoon.  My co-worker and I both saw this and were surprised.  She eventually started yelling at some of our business partners over the phone in meetings for no reason.  She thought it was funny.  Eventually her boss found out and came to us to confirm it.  Instead of firing her, he wanted us to have an "intervention" and confront her the next morning.  It was the craziest situation I had been in, and probably the most uncomfortable.  The big boss didn't want to fire her at that time and gave her many opportunities, but ended up letting her go a few months later for "performance" reasons.

First off, I love Bojack, so you are simply spurring me on with that.

But seriously, I'm not doing it to "increase productivity", but regain some normalcy.  Self-medication's primary purpose is to keep people from running out of the room screaming and set themselves on fire.

I know this is not a long-term solution, but I'm just doing it to get by for now.  I plan to get in front of a real doc soon.

Yup.  And all they need to do is test your pube that you left on top of the urinal.

I only take it "as needed".  I've gone months without taking it before and have experienced no side effects.  My sister has taken it for years with no side effects.

I'm super-careful with ANY prescription drug.  I totally vetted this before going on it.

As for a beer at work... I need one!

About where I am at. Have actually had HR people tell me it is perfectly fine to drink at lunch as long as it doesn't impact your ability to do your job.

Having to hide it in your coffee definitely feels a bit too far on the end of the spectrum though.

So I've toned it down a bunch lately.  Even went like 10 days with no alcohol.

However, today had an itch and downed a couple of drinks at lunch.

Feeling it a bit right now.  Work is fun again!

Be careful.  While not quite cocaine, alcohol is still a hell of a drug.
