What did Rich Kotite do?

Basically, Kotite was noticeably outcoached by every guy who preceded and succeeded him... and it's not like these guys were great coaches, either. He was preceded in Philly by Buddy Ryan, and succeeded by Ray Rhodes. He was preceded in New York by Bruce Coslett and Pete Carroll, and succeeded by Bill Parcells. The only one of those guys who has a winning career record was Parcells, who absolutely DESTROYED Kotite's production.

I think the criteria should be examined. Vince Lombardi couldnt coach the Raiders into a winning team right now... So if he came in with his first gig and went 2-14 and 3-13 two years in a row he would be horrible. Take a good team and make them horrible which Norv Turner seems to do, wherever he goes, then that would make him a bad head coach.

In no way am I suggesting that Rich Kotite doesn't belong on this list....but here's something things to consider :From 1991-1998 Rich Kotite compiled a .569 winning percentage as Head Coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. However, just remember what was going on in the NFC East from 1991 - 1994 the Super Bowl champions were the Redskins, Giants and Cowboys twice (coached by HOFers or soon to be in the likes of Jimmy Johnson, Joe Gibbs, and Bill Parcells). In 1991 Kotite lost Randall Cunningham in the 1st game of the season and still finished 10-6, yet missed the playoffs. That's how good the NFC East was then. Now 9-7 or 8-8 may get you into the playoffs in the NFC.

What was the Philadelphia media's constant criticisms of Richard Kotite? Dubious playcalling..."Why don't we run the ball more?".... innate (inept?) "wizardry" of clock management....fast forward to today and has anything really changed with the Eagles?
