Worst quarterback of all time (1 Viewer)

I think it is Ryan Leaf. he was such a #####, pardon the language, and also complained to dang much. plus he sucked big time.

another contender is akili smith. plain garbage.

third is Charlie Frye. a huge bust, and Savage's worst draft pick yet.

When I saw your topic the first name to come to mind was Ryan Leaf.

A friend of mine thought that Indy should have picked Leaf over Manning, and that Leaf would be a better pro. I have never let him forget that.

Tim Couch?
i doubt it, as he actually had two good years in 2001 and 2002 and led the browns to the postseason in 02 with a 9-7 record, before breaking his leg. ryan leaf is far worse than couch by 25 million miles.
Yeah it was just a joke.
by far your team's worst quarterback was kordell stewart. he sucked ###, despite beating the hell out of us, 43-0
I would go with Bubby Brister myself.

Joey Harrington.

After the 2005 season, I had him as the third worst QB ever.

After the 2006 season, he moved up (down?) to the worst QB ever.

While Harrington played better than the Harrington of old in 2007, he was still a below league average QB, so he's only sliding down more.

I think it would have to be someone who at least teased you that he had talent and/or had something other than his own suckitude to blame.

Guys like Carr, Harrington, Mirer, and Couch fall into this category as they forced their teams to keep them around a couple of years longer than they should have.

I feel like this is a :honda: I think they actually got to the level of breaking it down statistically and there was a guy on the expansion Bucs who had just some seriously sorry #'s

Some of my nominees (other than Leaf and Akili Smith)Todd Marinovich (Oakland's 1st round pick #24, 1991)

Cade McNown (Chicago's 1st round pick #12 1999)

Heath Shuler (Washington's 1st round pick #3 1994)

Jim Druckenmiller (San Francisco's 1st round pick #26, 1997)

"The Old Ball Coach", Steve Spurrier - a seriously awful (though long) pro career. 1st round pick, 3rd selection of the 1967 49ers.

I can't believe some of you would say Tim Couch was the worst qb of all time. That really shows ignorance. Hell, he had his moments with the Browns, led them to the playoffs, and then got hurt.

My vote goes for Ryan Leaf. Rick Mirer and Heath Shuler were pretty bad also.

I'd throw Andre Ware out there too. In defense of Leaf, at least he got some substantial playing time to determine he sucked. In other words, he could actually beat out the other QBs on his team to get starts. Guys like Ware, Akili Smith and a ton of others came in with much ballyhoo, but their own coach didn't even have the nerve to hand the keys to them full time.

Joey Harrington.

Not even close. Some of the worst QBs would give anything to have had the carerr that Harrington has had. That shows how bad some of the worst QBs have been.

Akili Smith is a good choice.

The 90's Giants had some great candidates as well. An illustrious crew including:

Dave Brown

Danny Kannell

Kent Graham.

A true triumverate of suckitude.

David Woodley
At least Woodley was a Super Bowl QB. He died a few years ago, RIP.
Woodley was so bad they turned around the next season and drafted Dan Marino in the 1st round...Woodley was unseated by game 4 of that season.
Not even close to being the worst. He was an 8th round draft choice and stuck around the league much longer than some of the worst QBs ever.
Drafted I believe in 1981...took a strike shortened 1982 season...only 9 games, and managed to go to the SUper Bowl where he was replaced during the game by Don Strock. Took the field in 1983 and never was ever a starter once Marino took over which was very quickly. In 1984 i think he went to Pittsburgh for a year or two and backed up Mark Malone...Trust me Beaver, David Woodley was one of the worst QBs of all time. I included Trent Dilfer and he has a ring. I listed a lot of high 1st rounders over the years as well...I'm sure some were long forgotten about.

What expectations did you have for an 8th round draft choice? The fact he lasted in the league as long as he did doesn't get him close to being one of the worst QBs ever.

Also consider Jesse Freitas SD, Danny Kennall NYG, and.. Terry Hanratty PIT

(Greg Cook CIN was fine with a near-expansion team. )

My vote for all three as worst.

Greg Cook... '69 Bengals
Seriously?
Not really, but he was taken #5 in the draft, but he had an undetected rotator cuff tear because they did not have the MRI technology of today. He was a bust but it was injury related. You would be the one guy that knows who he actually is. Also Penny has had two rotator cuff surgeries and he has been compared injury wise to Cook. Cook did manage to beat Oakland I think twice in 1969 when the Raiders were pretty darn good.

Did you throw in Cook to see if we were paying attention? As a rookie Cook led the AFL in passer rating, completion percentage, yards per attempt and yards per completion. He destroyed his shoulder during that season and couldn't come back despite several operations. Hardly qualifies him for discussion amongst the worst of all time.

Where were they drafted? I am getting pummeled on the Woodley pick form the laundered list I blasted thru. I think Kanell was a 4th round draft pick and the draft was already shrunk down to 7 rounds...

There are a lot of bad QBs, and a lot of guys that were simply wrong place/wrong time. But David Carr is pretty high up on the list for being the wrong guy for the job he was asked to do. He lacked the poise, leadership, confidence, and experience to be what was asked of him: face of a franchise.

Colin, I would partly agree but Carr was pretty awesome coming out of college and got thrown to the wolves behind an OL that was so bad that ESPN made fun of it in their promos the next season...I do take that into account...he never recovered.

i find it hard to believe it took this long to get chris weinke mentioned. 2-18 career record as a starter, 15-26 pass td/int ratio, 60 career qb rating. i still cant get over a 2-18 record. thats just putrid.

Theres a blast from the past. In my league we used to call him "Bloody Blister"
