All things constant, do you date the funny lady? Not the one with the sense of humor, but the one who is outwardly and vociferously funny?

Sarah Silverman about the only one I can think of
Iliza Shslessinger is attractive. I don't know about funny.

In certain days, Chelsea Handler isnt bad

I kind of dig Jen Kirkman, but she may fall into women you oddly find attractive thread. Not sure

Whitney Cummings is better than average.

Maybe Natasha Leggero

Nicole Arbour

No way. I don't want someone who's good at making fun of me when I inevitably screw up.
This is what I'm getting at. Not only do comedians have a special knack for observation, they might be neurotic enough to make our foibles incredibly sad, pathetic, and funny at the same time. No way I want that constant reminder in my life.

Child: Daddy, who is Mommy making fun of all the time?

Father: Daddy

Child: Why is everybody laughing at Daddy?

Father: Because Mommy is a Funny Lady

Child: I think it's mean, Daddy

Father: It's okay, Mikey, Mommy is a unicorn. They're special.

I always thought Kathleen Madigan was pretty attractive.

i have ZERO interest in some broad who is gonna be running schtick, trying bits, using props, etc   same for chix into sports - G'BYE!!1!  :bye:

i've always gravitated to the moody, mercurial ... passionate artistic bent, with a free and independent spirit - e.g. Rava from 'Seinfeld' (she's from Finland, for god's sake ... FINLAND!)

yeah, no desire to be bored stiff with a Henrietta Youngman.

ymmv, but irdgaf

Friend: Oh look, [X]'s girlfriend is being funny again.

2nd Friend: Who's the butt of her jokes this time?

Friend: One guess.

2nd Friend: Oh, he puts the [X] in ex-, doesn't he?

When she starts to incorporate the #### you do into her routines, those "yes" guys might start to think twice.....

I don't know why someone wouldn't want to date someone who is funny.  My wife and I definitely have a different sense of humor, but we still make each other laugh.  Is it at each other's expense?  Sometimes, but certainly not always.  If you can't be the butt of a joke every now and then you need to stop taking yourself so seriously.

I agree with all of this. I'm just not sure it's so easy to pick the one that isn't constantly putting your butt out in the ashtray.

All things constant and with her having a good sense of humor, do you pick the Funny Lady...

no one said DEVOID OF SENSE OF HUMOR ... read the OP, and check back in

Well, I have a pretty biting sense of humor myself, so I can give as good as I get.  I knew my wife for about 10 years before we got together.  Giving each other a hard time was pretty much the way we flirted.  I never once thought "ouch, that hurts."  What I will say though is that she wasn't making those jokes in front of an audience.  Maybe that changes it?  I don't know.

It definitely helps if you're on the same page with humor. Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman and Anthony Jeselnik and Amy Schumer were Exhibits A of that type of thing.

I don't mean to discount funny women. I was curious about other people's personality preferences. My preferences run more towards the really soft-spoken and kind women, but those with an ability to appreciate really good humor of all stripes.

I think there is a pretty wide range of personality types I would go for.  I don't think I have a "type."  It's pretty tough to answer a question like "all things being equal, which personality do you go for?"  I don't think many of us have been in that situation before, because as you know, all things are never equal.  But, bottom line, I don't think I could ever be with a woman long term who did not make me laugh.

Cool. I've dated both funny women and women with a good sense of humor. I prefer the latter, but as you said, there is certainly a false constant I'm asking people to assume.

Love me some Amy Schumer. I had front row seats to her show in Charlotte right before she hit it big (right after the roast show she was on). She used my glass to make a #### joke. Loved her ever since.

Used to think she was great, now I find her repulsive

It's funny that most of us took the question to mean whether we would date a stand up comedian but that's not really what you're asking.

Your question seems more "would you date a woman who is the center of attention and funny".

Sure, though extreme extraversion can be exhausting.

Well, I was thinking of stand-ups, but I actually think you've hit on the heart of it (not just saying that to be nice), only the stand-up makes it more manifest. Do you date the woman who can be the center of attention and funny and all that it brings?

I was really thinking of those personality traits that make it necessary or an outlet to be on stage, either literally or metaphorically.

I've been that guy who dates the presence. Sometimes...no fun. Better a well-timed word these days for me.

My Mary was never a standup - mud wrestling (great) & punk bass (awful) were her performance media - but she was smart & savage & brash and we were often unfairly accused of preparing bits for social occasions because we were so uproarious together. Next to singing along during Lowell George's late-night jams on the road, the happiest i've ever been was when ScaryMary & I were first going out and we'd look up from our table to find that we'd become the floor show for the entire bar or restaurant. We were both wordly & worldly funny individuals, but together we had a thythm that made our public conversations almost porn. Nick & Nora, wikkid & ScaryMary, Hekyll & Jekyll is how i'd rank it, couplewise.

I've dated the presence but it didn't last, she was a bit of a drama queen. My wife is funny but not the center of attention, and we're both non dramatic.

Now that's interesting.  My wife fits this to a T, even if it is not for being funny.  She loves attention, has no fear for being up in front of a crowd microphone in hand (even if it is not for being funny).  She MC's our school auction, loves teaching spinning classes having a captive audience with a microphone in hand, will get up in front of a group for any reason with no fear.  That kind of self confidence is impressive to me (and unknowingly a big part of what drew me to her most likely).  But, myself being at the opposite end of that personality spectrum, it can be exhausting when I'm brought into it as her partner.

Sure, if I was single. A bigger obstacle wouldn't be that she is a comedienne...it would be the traveling involved and how often I saw her.

As an aside...for an older broad, that Andrea Savage from "I'm sorry" on tru tv is a babe.

NO idea why she hasnt just zzzzzzzzoomed. When i saw her in Stepbrothers, i said, "there we go - next comedy bombshell" and..................................

I remember back in my single days that I had a date with this broad that I'd met online. We was some type of artist although I can't remember exactly what. Anyways, our first date is going well and I had been talking up the fact that I was a wanna-be stand up comedian. I had done an open mic night or two. Anyways, I really was talking that up because she was artistic and it seemed to turn her on. We are having a few drinks, I'm pretty sure she is going home with me but she keeps pressing me to provide her with a joke or two from "my act". I'm resisting but she keeps persisting when I finally relent. This was back in the days when the Catholic Church alter boy scandal had first broke in Boston so I give her a snippet of my alter boy jokes where I said I had relations with my priest but I was the one that ####ed him in the butt. People said I should still pursue it and I said "What? I'm going to sue Father Barrett because he didn't swallow?".

Date was over pretty quickly after that. F her.

There were some sexy ladies during the New Wave comedy boom, when i was hanging out in clubs. They weren't all Boozlers & Poundstones. Sue Kolinsky, a friend of Susie Essman & Carol Leifer and, like most female New Wavers, who has been a comedy writer for like ever, was cute as lace pants. The late Judy Toll (who was in the 1st Curb) had a balcony you could do Shakespeare from and showed her material off so well that made it hard to concentrate on her material. There was one, though, Jann Karam, who was hot (she was one of Seinfeld's menage a trois) had a baby voice and actually did some pretty intimate material. In fact, one of the reasons she didn't go farther was the difficulty she created for men giving her a standing ovation.
