wow... Alex Smith.. (1 Viewer)

I continue to be amazed at how there are so many ignoramuses out there that will continue to point at Grossman's weaknesses without seeing how half the league has sucky QBs....not every team is fortunate to have sucked for a full decade so badly that they could get lucky and draft Peyton Manning or Carson Palmer after failing at the QB situation for a decade or more

Alex Smith is one of those QBs that stink but continues to get a free pass compared to Rex. And I can name a lot more: Leftwich, Culpepper, Huard/Croyle, Matt Leinart (he was awful tonight again), Losman (guys continue to be in love with this guy but I just do not see it on the football field), Mcnair (or Boller), Tavaris Jackson etc etc
Love the nicknameLove the Bears.

Hate the Grossman

He gets so much hate because he makes bad decisions, can't see over the line of scrimmage, and makes mitakes taht cost his team games. He had 6 good games at the beginning of last year, but other than that he looks lost and confused most of the time. Like I said, I love the Bears and I'm hoping for the best for Grossman, but he does very little to endear himself to the Chi-town faithful with his play.

Some of the players you mentioned aren't really accurate comparisions either.

McNair is siucky now IMHO, but he has a history of playing tough and being a solid QB.

Tavaris Jackson has less time starting than Grossman so any "give him time" argument you want to make for grossman has to be applied even more so for Jackson.

Leftwich is presently unemployed so apparently your opinion of him is held by others.

Leinhart, Huard, and Croyle have less starting time than Grossman so see the Jackson comment.

You certainly have the right to defend and apologize for Grossman, but as a Bear fan I would prefer to see wat Griese can do.

As for Alex Smith. I look at him and I see a future average QB at best. His arm strength looks average. His decision making looks average. And his speed looks slightly above average. He doesn't appear to have any quality that would elad me to believe that he's tough as nails and will find a way to win it for you.

I would also agree that the pass to Jackson was as good as you can throw it and that DJ just dropped it like he usually does. The only thing that may have helped, and I haven't watched the replay enough to sayfor sure, would have been if Smith would have throw it a little more to Jackson's right, away from the defender so he wouldn't have to try and catch it with the CB draped on his back, but he hit his WR in stride in the hands and that's all you can ask him to do.
:tumbleweed: He had a good 50 yard throw into the endzone that was right on the money which Jackson dropped.
Every QB in the NFL can lob a football 50 yards, thats easy. Jeff Garcia can throw it 50 yards. Im talking about a ten yard out that has to lead a receiver and be on a rope without sinking and hitting the ground before it gets to the receiver. There is more to being a QB in the NFL than the fifty yard bomb. I cant tell the diff between Alex smith and Akili Smith.
I can. One looks like #### all game and then wins it at the end (see: Arizona last night or Seattle last season)

The other just looked like ####.
:goodposting: You have more patience than me; my friend.

People thought Smith was bad?

Did you see Leinart? Dear God he was awful. He has no arm strength at all. He has happy feet. He's scrambling around instead of getting the ball out. I saw at least 5-6 double clutches, one of them they showed the replay and Fitz was open. If you want to overract, it's Leinart being ranked a top 10 fantasy QB, when the guy isn't going to sniff the top 10 this decade.

I don't want to hear about Fitz/Boldin. They were in man to man coverage all night. What's the point of 2 probowl WRs, if a set of good corners playing man can completely take them out of the game. If you're a stud WR, man to man, you eat that up all night. Shocking the Matt Millen approach to building a team is completely ######ed.

I don't know...what i've seen of him tonight he has a cannon for an arm. That long pass to Djax should have been a td.
 Alex Smith is weak, he cant even throw a simple out. He will be David Carr version 2.0. Did the OC never hear of play action. That team looks completely lost on offense with no creativity. It blows me away that some are picking the 49ers to take the division away from the Hawks.
They are picking the division for 49rs cause the hawks suck.
Thanks for the insightful response.
I'm just being a Butthead JB. No offense.

:lmao: Alex Smith didn't look good, but he put the ball where people should have caught it. On top of that, on the game winning drive they had enough faith to let him pass on 4th and 1 - which he turned into a long run. He's also only 23 and I think he's going to be a much better QB in a few years.

:bye: I was thinking the same thing as I watched last night's game. I wish a lot people in Chicago would have watched and realized not every team has a Peyton, Brady, or Palmer.

Wow. There sure is a lot of opinionated and unsubstantiated bull crap in this thread.

I watched a good chunk of this game. The defenses were applying a lot of pressure on both Smith and Leinart. There was a lot of hard hits by defenders from the gun and the hitting got nastier as the game went on especially by the 9ers D. Willis is a beast and his play was contagious.

Seemed pretty clear to me the recievers for the 9ers are not on track with the game plan yet and I blame the coaches for that. DJax probobly needs some more practice time to understand what he is supposed to be doing and I totaly agree he was avoiding contact and did not make the effort needed to go get some of the targets he recieved. Instead pulling up short and avoiding getting hammered by a kill shot. If he keeps playing like that he will be replaced.

Vernon Davis did not seem part of the game plan much at all to me and I was looking for him. Not sure when/if that is going to happen. I expected him to be the focal point for Smith.

Adrian Wilson is a beast. Alex Smith was under a lot of pressure from the multiple blitz package the Cardinals unleashed on him.

All in all a typical early season game where the defenses have a huge advantage because they are attacking and know what they want to do while the offense is reacting and trying to get comfortable with what they are trying to do while the defense is giving them problems that were not part of thier walk throughs/game planning.

To lay this all on Smith who played pretty under control and for the most part under the circumstances, protected the ball and got rid of it when nothing was there for him is pretty off base.

Leinart looked a lot more frazzled by the 9er defense to me than Smith did. To be fair this is only Leinarts 2nd year while Smith is now starting his 3rd so thats to be expected. The 9er defense was impressive. They have come a long way.

Alex Smith has worse WRs than Matt Leinart and looked better out there to me. Both guys were running for their lives, though, so it's tough to grade them. Smith had an awesome deep throw to DJax that he just dropped in the end zone. Plus he showed some poise in that last drive. If you're gonna bang on Smith you gotta bang on Leinart even more IMO.
