Not necessarily. Might look genius regardless if AJB is making $25MM per year and playing half the games.

It will be a tough year for AJ but PHI has draft ammo next year to go get a QB once Hurts most likely proves he is not the guy this year. I also think Hurts has a shorter leash this year and they will turn to Gardner pretty quickly if he cannot get the job done which should give AJ a boost.

So the average is 21 mill a year, somehow nowhere near 25 mill per year.
Cap number doesn't even go over 20 mill until 2024.

I'm going to try to sell him but won't take pennies on the dollar so I think he's a hold. At least is Tennessee he was really the only option with an average passing QB. Now he's on a team with a poor passing QB and fighting for targets with Devonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. Not sure there is a worse spot for AJ, from a fantasy perspective, imo.

I've been wanting to launch an entire thread on this topic so I'm not trying to pit us against each other but I need more from your POV about how that is supposed to work.
-Let me share what i understand it to be so we have clarity.
AJ Brown will be paid year 4 of his rookie salary this season, to my understanding that doesn't change. What does change or what he gets instantly is the signing bonus. In this case $23,2 Million is going straight into AJB's bank account. Will make more in one stroke of the pen than he did all 3-4 years under his 2nd Rd rookie deal.
So I want to be clear when I read "Titans should have made him play"...you need to be more specific or explain how that is even possible when you understand the immense money that AJB and his agent legally could obtain once they are past Year 3 of his rookie deal.

I see AJB as the primary WR and Smith will be like a 1A option or he could light it up even more his 2nd season but AJB is nuclear when he is on and healthy. The Eagles are paying him like a front line Top 5-10 at his position, gotta think he will see plenty of targets whoever is chucking the football.
Do feel Hurts is a step down from Tannehill, not a massive landslide but certainly a step or two back. That said to my understanding AJB and Hurts work out every off season together. Think about that because AJB has to know the guy's limitations. And yet he's here. Was it all for the money? You be the judge.
You can't unwrap 25 mil and ask me to answer it as if it's the same. It's not. He got a huge signing bonus.
He was under contract for year four- play year. In year five, welp here's the franchise tag. I feel so (sarcasm) bad for him making top five salary.

Receiver changing teams and joining an unproven quarterback is a big concern. The fact that Brown & Hurts are close and are already working together is a good sign. Much will depend on scheme and Hurts progression. He will be a gamble for redraft this year but if his price has dropped in dynasty I would be a buyer. Philly has ammo to find a QB next year and won’t hesitate if Hurts proves to be ineffective.
While I agree that Hurts is a clear downgrade from Tannehill, there is a part of me that thinks that probably doesn't matter, and that Brown will see much more volume in Philly.
The Eagles were among the most pass heavy teams in the NFL early in the season, I think that is what they want to be. It wasn't working, and they switched to becoming one of the most run heavy, but I don't think that is who they want to be. When they were struggling being pass heavy, it was with a banged up Goedert, and Smith in the first couple games of his NFL career. Adding Brown, to me means, its going to be back to the early season game plan, but with a much better, and more experienced group, and if Hurts can't make it work this year, then use their draft capital in 2023 to find a guy who can.
I think AJ Brown is a potential top-5 WR in Philly. I think its not unrealistic that he's the best of the WR's who changed teams this offseason.

Well you could go Walker and 2nd choice at WR, or you could likely grab your top two rookie WRs. I may be in the minority here, but the Eagles rush heavy offense, Hurts as the QB, Smith/Goedert as quality receiving options, and AJB’s propensity to be dinged make me pretty comfortable rolling the dice on 2 the top 4 rookies. I think at least one, if not both, may rival AJB in dynasty value this time next year.

I own AJB. In my only dynasty league and I’ve been wondering if I should cut ties with him but don’t see anyone worth trading him for this year right now but that could change if I could get two early 1sts for him this year but I still think I’d hold him. A team doesn’t trade a 1st and pay 20 mill a year for a guy they aren’t going to use extensively

In theory, I absolutely agree. But this is a bad bad bad fantasy situation, no? Sure, I get it, situations change quickly in the NFL (funny enough, that’s why we are talking about AJ Brown). But as you said, AJB is now locked into this particular team long term. And if Hurts has a really solid year and AJB’s good buddy becomes their guy at QB moving forward, do you trust AJB for fantasy production simply because he got $25MM per year?
As it relates to the rookie WRs that he would consider with the 1.02/1.04, couldn’t the same argument be made that a team doesn’t invest top 10 draft capital for a guy they aren’t planning to use extensively? And he could grab two of those. As unproven as they are, I’d roll the dice on the rookies vs hoping that AJB starts to see 10 targets per game, stays healthy, and that the Eagles obtain a QB whom is proficient in the passing game. Look, I love AJB the player. Soooo much fun to watch. I just think that’s a price I’m cashing out for and avoiding what I perceive to be a few major risks.

I'm a huge AJB fan and think he would be successful on almost any team no matter who they have at QB and WR across from him. I think Smith will be as good as any WR he has lined up across, much better than Julio was last year.travdogg said:

That said, I'm more concerned about the knees holding up than Hurts and the Eagles poisoning him. The Titans were about as bad of a landing spot as there was when AJB was drafted there. If he's healthy, he's a difference maker. I think AJB's YAC profile might make him a little less susceptible to Hurts' shortcomings as a passer. It's nice to know that the Eagles are well positioned to make a play on a deep 2023 class if Hurts isn't up to it, not that starting fresh with an unproven 2023 rookie QB would be ideal. However, if AJB plays 15+, I don't think anyone is going to regret not taking $.80 on the dollar trades to move off of him right now.

I have a question about a team letting the 24 year old stud WR go. I wonder if they have long term health questions, or something else they know. Because simply offering him a below market deal, then trading him away with no real deadline is odd. You can always pay your studs. They could have given him the Philly deal, and his cap number wouldn't have gone over 20 mill for three years. Meantime, Amari Cooper has had 20 mill cap numbers for multiple seasons already.

Could be a thought that he has missed too many games to deserve anything close to the top of the WR market, and that the top WRs aren't worth anything close to the numbers they were going for. Heck, it's not even impossible that personal opinions about depression, which AJB opened up about, might even factor into this.

Wouldn't worry about Hurts Rushing ability limiting him. I'd worry about Hurts passing ability. Brown is going to help him improve a lot but how much Hurts improves is going to determine how Brown's season goes.
Hurts becomes top 15 passing, Brown should have a top 10 WR year numbers wise reflecting that. If Hurt's continues to struggle passing, can't see AJ having huge numbers.

Not sure I agree. With Smith & Goedert on the roster. Hurts was a liability as a passer and they didn't turn around their season until after they committed to the run. Smith finished as WR36 in my PPR and I don't think that was because Smith sucks.
AJ definitely will help Hurts improve but I am not sure there will be enough volume to support a true WR12 or better, unless they somehow score a lot of TDs.

AJ Brown was semi-low volume in Tennessee and did just fine when he was on the field. He's a WR1 if healthy.

Jalen has a ways to go but he's a far better player than tannehiil already. I don't think much of tannehill though. I guess this season will prove if I'm right or not.

Yes, lets not forget Tannehill was a project himself despite the high draft capital. Hurts is entering his age 24 season. He's got 22 career passing TDs. When Tannehill was entering his age 24 season, he had 0 NFL passing TDs. Hurts completed 61% of his passes last year. Tannehill wouldn't hit that mark until he was 26 years old.
